Ed Sheeran exhibits original paintings to raise money for foundation

Euronews09-07-2025
British singer songwriter Ed Sheeran has launched a new series of original paintings and prints titled 'Cosmic Carpark Paintings'.
The artworks will exhibited at the HENI Gallery in London from Thursday 10 July and sales will benefit the Ed Sheeran Foundation - an initiative providing inclusive, high-quality music education for every child.
The foundation has already supported 18 grassroots music education organisations and state school music departments, impacting over 12,000 children and young people.
Sheeran has been painting since 2019 after his record-breaking Divide Tour ended. He even used one of his early creations as the official artwork for his single 'Afterglow'.
Inspired by celestial patterns, the Jackson Pollock-esque splash painting style in Sheeran's creations were showcased in a collection in a disused car park in London last year.
Damien Hirst even encouraged the musician to put on his own exhibition – the two agreeing that the project would be an interesting way of showing how art can give back to the arts.

Sheeran wrote on Instagram: 'So last year in between shows I was doing these paintings. I love painting, more for fun and to give to friends, but this time I was encouraged to do a show of them by @damienhirst and @heni . I paint when I'm not working on a record, just to do something creative with my brain. And it's mostly just splashing colours on canvases, think Jackson Pollock but with colourful house paint.'
He continued: 'I am by no means 'an artist', but I do love making art, it makes me feel great, and I love the end result. The show is gonna run from 10th July to 1st August at the heni gallery in soho. The paintings are for sale if anyone fancies it, and my proceeds from them will all go into the @edsheeranfnd so art will fund art. I like the idea of that. There's also prints and other merch available, all quite fun. If you happen to be in soho over the next month pop in. The opening preview of Cosmic Carpark Paintings is this Thursday 10th July from 2pm-8pm. Enjoy!'
The paintings will be exhibited at the HENI Gallery in London between 10 July and 1 August 2025. Admission to the 'Cosmic Carpark Paintings' exhibition is free.
Elsewhere, Sheeran's 2017 hit 'Shape of You' was announced by Apple Music as the most-streamed song on the platform of the past decade.
Apple shared an interview with the singer talking about the creation and impact of 'Shape of You'.
'No one can take away the song,' Sheeran reflected to Zane Lowe. 'I'll be able to play it forever… I'm just grateful that I have songs like that, that you could be anywhere in the world and someone gives you a guitar and you can make someone happy with it.'

Police drop Glastonbury criminal probe into Belfast rap group Kneecap

A police investigation into controversial Belfast rap trio Kneecap following their performance at this year's Glastonbury Festival has been dropped, with authorities citing a lack of evidence to pursue charges. Kneecap - comprised of Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh (Mo Chara), Naoise Ó Cairealláin (Moglai Bap), and JJ Ó Dochartaigh (DJ Próvaí) - shared a screenshot online that appeared to be from a senior investigating officer, confirming the case had been dropped. The Irish group are known for their outspoken vocal support for the Palestinian cause and has been targeted by the British justice system over what the band referred to as a 'trumped up terrorism charge'. The Glastonbury controversy stemmed from comments made on stage by Ó Cairealláin, who referenced bandmate Ó hAnnaidh's upcoming court date - he was charged under the Terrorism Act earlier this year. 'Mo Chara was in court this month,' said Moglai Bap (Ó Cairealláin). 'Was anyone there? Mo Chara's in court for a trumped up terrorism charge. It's not the first time there was a miscarriage of justice for an Irish person in the British justice system'. Chara then mentioned Keir Starmer – who argued that it was 'not appropriate' for the band to be playing at Glastonbury: 'The Prime Minister of your country said he didn't want us to play, so f*ck Keir Starmer.' They echoed this sentiment when introducing their fan favourite song 'Get Your Brits Out', with Chara telling the crowd: 'We f*cking love the English people, it's the English government we can't stand. F*ck Keir Starmer.

Cryptic posts and song lyrics: Is a Fleetwood Mac reunion happening?

Earlier this week, Euronews Culture published an article about the musical acts we'd love to see reuniting, following Oasis' comeback. In the article, we mentioned that some reunions are 'wishful thinking – bordering on pipe dreams' and listed a series of bands whose return to the stage would never happen: 'We're looking at you, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Smiths and Fleetwood Mac.' Well, it may be time to eat some humble pie with that last one, as a series of cryptic Instagram posts by Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham have led fans to believe that a reunion of the legendary British-American band could very well be imminent... Yesterday, Nicks posted hand-written lyrics to the 1973 tune 'Frozen Love': 'And if you go forward…' Buckingham then completed the lyric in his own hand-written post: 'I'll meet you there'. Une publication partagée par Stevie Nicks (@stevienicks) Une publication partagée par Lindsey Buckingham (@lindseybuckingham) As if that wasn't enough to get fans excited, Mick Fleetwood also joined in, sharing a video of himself listening to the duo's 'Frozen Love', which was re-shared on the official Fleetwood Mac Instagram page. 'Magic then, magic now,' Fleetwood wrote. Une publication partagée par Mick Fleetwood (@mickfleetwoodofficial) Understandably, this sent the internet into frenzy: So, how realistic is a Fleetwood Mac reunion? Well, as much as we'd love to see it happen, we do stand by our comments in the Oasis Effect: Which bands should reunite next? piece. It seems very unlikely. Nicks has said that without the late singer Christine McVie, who died on 30 November 2022 aged 79, 'there's no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together.' It's more likely that these recent posts are just bandmates having a laugh and patching things up. Fleetwood Mac have seen their fair share of drama (to say the very least), with Nicks and Buckingham having dated between 1972 and 1976. Their fractured relationship caused turmoil, but they remained bandmates in Fleetwood Mac until Buckingham was fired from the band in 2018 over a tour disagreement. Fleetwood stated on CBS This Morning that Buckingham would not sign off on a tour that the group had been planning for a year and a half and they had reached a disagreement. When asked if Buckingham had been fired, he said: "We don't use that word because I think it's ugly." In October 2018, Buckingham filed a lawsuit against Fleetwood Mac for breach of fiduciary duty and breach of oral contract - among other claims. He later reached a settlement with the band but did not reveal the specific terms that were agreed upon. Since then, Nicks and Buckingham appeared to be at loggerheads. Though that no longer seems to be the case... So, who knows? Maybe that chain can be mended after all.

Massive Attack announce alliance of musicians speaking out over Gaza

Celebrated British trip hop collective Massive Attack have announced an alliance of musicians speaking out over Gaza against 'intimidations from within' the music industry. Massive Attack took to social media last night to share a statement announcing the 'movement' – a union of musicians who have spoken out over the Israel-Palestine war and have faced attempts of censorship. The statement reads: 'The scenes in Gaza have moved beyond description. We write as artists who've chose to use our public platforms to speak out against the genocide occurring there & the role of the UK Government in facilitating it.' Une publication partagée par Massive Attack (@massiveattackofficial) 'Because of our expressions of conscience, we've been subject to various intimidations from within our industry (live & recorded) & legally via organised bodies such as UK Lawyers For Israel; whose range of activities has now finally been exposed in a new documentary film projected last night by the Led By Donkeys collective.' This makes reference to Led By Donkeys, the UK political campaign group that was formed in 2018 as an anti-Brexit group. They premiered a new documentary last night about UK Lawyers For Israel (UKLFI) and how they attempted to silence Bob Vylan following their controversial Glastonbury performance last month. UKLFI have claimed responsibility for getting Bob Vylan taken off several festival line-ups in the UK, as well as actions against Kneecap. Une publication partagée par Led By Donkeys (@ledbydonkeys) Later in the statement released by Massive Attack, the band say: 'Having withstood these campaigns of attempted censorship, we won't standby & allow other artists – particularly those at earlier stages of their careers or in other positions of professional vulnerability – to be threatened into silence or career cancellation. In this spirit, we encourage artists who've been placed in this position, or those who now wish to use their platforms to talk about Palestine, but are concerted about industrial or legal repercussions to contact us.' The post ends with a list of collective demands that Massive Attack and supporting artists have put together: 'Immediate, unfettered access to Gaza for recognised international aid agencies without military threat'; 'the end of the atrocious targeting of medical & aid workers'; 'an end to to UK arm sales/licenses to Israel'; 'an immediate & permanent ceasefire'; 'a free Palestine'. Massive Attack said of the alliance in a statement to the Guardian: 'This collective action is really about offering some kind of solidarity to those artists who are living day after day in a screen-time genocide, but are worried about using their platforms to express their horror at that because of the level of censorship within their industry or from highly organised external legal bodies, terrifying them and their management teams with aggressive legal actions. The intention is clear and obvious: to silence them.' Artists who have already expressed their support for the alliance include Kneecap, Fontaines D.C. and Brian Eno. Kneecap added in their own post: 'End threats and censorship against artists who speak out against the genocide in Palestine. Speak out. Stand up. We are the majority.' Une publication partagée par KNEECAP (@kneecap32) In April, Massive Attack issued a statement supporting Kneecap, following the news that the Irish rap trio were under investigation by counter-terrorism police in the UK. The band were also joined by Dua Lipa, actor Benedict Cumberbatch and ex-footballer and present Gary Lineker – among other high-profile names – in penning a letter to urge Prime Minister Keir Starmer to 'end UK complicity' in Gaza. The letter demanded all UK arms sales to Israel to be immediately suspended and that the government commit to seeking a ceasefire for 'the children of Gaza'. Une publication partagée par Choose Love (@chooselove) Previously, Massive Attack teamed up with Fontaines D.C. and Young Fathers on a 2023 Gaza benefit single, with 100 per cent of the profits from the single donated to the charity Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders to help their emergency operations in Gaza and the West Bank.
