The film follows a high school wrestling coach who finds himself caught between chasing a long-awaited dream job and managing an unexpected new family dynamic — one that forces him to reevaluate what truly matters. Directed by Matthew S. Robinson (My Friend Violet), the film is produced by James Pratt (Longevity Hackers), with Ron Krauss (Open Wounds) and Craig Titley (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) serving as executive producers alongside Dorsey.
Rounding out the cast is singer Wanda Dee, along with Ashley Nocera (Fanged), and Katarina Severen (Karate Kill).
'This is a deeply human story — and with a cast like this, it's coming to life in a way that's honest and powerful,' said writer-producer Rufus Dorsey.
Last year Payne was bestowed with the SoulTracks Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing her contributions to the music industry. She also received the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement and Legacy Award in 2023.

Quentin Tarantino Explains Why He 'Pulled The Plug' On ‘The Movie Critic' As His Final Film

After Deadline reported last year that Quentin Tarantino dropped The Movie Critic as his 10th and final film, he's providing some insight to the decision. The 2x Oscar winner recently explained that although he 'was very happy' with what he wrote originally as an eight-part series and then translated into a feature-length script but 'wasn't really that excited' when it came time for pre-production. More from Deadline Quentin Tarantino Drops 'The Movie Critic' As His Final Film Cliff Booth Lives & It's No April Fool's Joke: Netflix, David Fincher & Brad Pitt Resurrect Tarantino Script Quentin Tarantino Pays Tribute To Michael Madsen With 'Reservoir Dogs' Memory: "I'm On Your Side, Buddy" 'No one's waiting for this thing per se. I mean, I can do it whenever I want. I mean, it's already written. So OK, let me just not start it right now,' he explained his thought process on The Church of Tarantino podcast. 'Let me try writing it as a movie and let me see if it's better that way. And I was like, 'Oh, OK, no, I think this is going to be the movie.' And then it wasn't. I pulled the plug on it. And the reason I pulled the plug, it's a little crazy.' Although Tarantino said he 'really, really likes' The Movie Critic, he noted, 'But there was a challenge that I gave to myself when I did it. Can I take the most boring profession in the world and make it an interesting movie?' 'Every Tarantino title promises so much, except The Movie Critic,' he explained. 'Who wants to see a TV show about a f***ing movie critic? Who wants to see a movie called The Movie Critic? If I can actually make a movie or a TV show about somebody who watches movies interesting, that is an accomplishment. 'It's a spiritual sequel to Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood in so far as they take place in the same world and they take place in the same town. But there were no crossover characters. Cliff Booth was never in The Movie Critic. That's all a bunch of bull****. That never was the case ever, ever, ever.' Tarantino added, 'I was so excited about the writing, but I wasn't really that excited about dramatizing what I wrote once we were in pre-production.' After The Movie Critic was teased as Tarantino's farewell film in 2023, with Brad Pitt attached to star, Deadline exclusively reported last April that the auteur simply had a change of heart and opted not to move forward with the project. Sources close to the director said he was going back to the drawing board to figure out what that final movie will be. Tarantino said the movie was set in 1977 California, 'based on a guy who really lived but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag.' Although a spiritual sequel to Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood (2019) isn't in the cards for Tarantino's final directorial outing, Pitt is reprising his role as stuntman Cliff Booth for the upcoming Netflix movie off-shoot The Adventures of Cliff Booth, directed by David Fincher. Photo by Angelina Katsanis/UPI | License Photo Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Laufey rocked the stage while performing her song "From the Start" live on ABC's Good Morning America on Friday. The Icelandic singer-songwriter clapped onstage and got the audience involved during her performance, which was a part of GMA's Summer Concert Series. "Music for me, songwriting is just, it's like my journal come alive and it's the way I get feelings out. But I think for me it's also a way of getting my experiences out there and hope that people resonate to make me feel less crazy," she said when asked about basing her music on personal experiences. "From the Start" appears on Laufey's second studio album, titled Bewitched. Laufey also performed "Lover Girl," a track from her upcoming third studio album, titled A Matter of Time. Laufey is set to release A Matter of Time on August 22. The album will also include the singles "Snow White," "Silver Lining" and "Tough Luck." Laufey will be promoting the album with a new tour that begins Sept. 15 in Orlando and wraps up Oct. 27 in Boston.

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors It was announced that the Wayans Brothers would return to the beloved "Scary Movie" franchise to reboot the series with full direction. Keenan Ivory Wayans will return to produce, while Marlon Wayans and Sean Wayans will presumably help write and star in he newest chapter. More news: James Gunn Drops Major Hint at Margot Robbie Returning to DCU While not much is known about what the new film in the franchise will entail, two of the original stars of the franchise are also set to return. In a new report from Deadline, Anna Faris and Regina Hall will return to the new "Scary Movie," reprising their roles as Brenda and Cindy, respectively. 33. "Scary Movie" (2000). Box office: $157.0 million. 33. "Scary Movie" (2000). Box office: $157.0 million. Hall and Faris starred in the first four "Scary Movie" films, but only the first two were written and directed by the Wayans Bros. With the family creative group getting involved again, they are bringing back two of the most fan-favorite characters in the franchise. According to Deadline, the film is set to shoot in October and is slated for a June 12, 2026, release date. Considering Cindy and Brenda are returning, it would be believed that Sean's Ray Wilkins and Marlon's Shorty would also be making a return, though that has not yet been confirmed. The original two "Scary Movie" films were a massive hit with audiences, with the first film releasing in 2000 and pulling in $278 million worldwide on a budget of $19 million. The second chapter in the "Scary Movie" universe followed shortly after in 2001, bringing in $141 million on a $45 million budget. The entire franchise has gone on to earn over $897 million through five films, making its return not at all shocking. Despite the big return, the Wayans Brothers have not been involved in the creativity of the franchise since "Scary Movie 2." The original films parodied "Scream," "I Know What You Did Last Summer," "The Exorcist," "The Shining," and so much more. Given the current state of horror, expect there to be a lot of films that are made fun of, such as "The Conjuring" films, though this is just speculation. Either way, fans of the original two films will be happy to know that Brenda and Cindy are back. For more on movie news, head to Newsweek Movies.
