Jeju Air crash: did pilots shut down wrong engine after bird strike?
South Korea -led investigation into Jeju Air's fatal plane crash in December had 'clear evidence' that the pilots shut off the less-damaged engine after a bird strike, a source with knowledge of the investigation said on Monday.

The source said the evidence, including the cockpit voice recorder, computer data and a physical engine switch found in the wreckage showed that the pilots had shut off the left engine instead of the right when taking emergency steps after a bird strike just before it was scheduled to land.
'The investigation team has clear evidence and backup data, so its finding will not change,' the source said on condition of anonymity because investigators had not released an official report including this evidence.
A government source said examinations of the plane's recovered engines found that no defects had been present before the bird strike and crash.

Malaysia ordered to pay Dutch model's family damages over botched death probe
Malaysia 's High Court has ordered the government and three other parties to pay 1.1 million ringgit (US$260,000) in damages to the family of Dutch model Ivana Smit , after finding that authorities failed to properly investigate her death eight years ago. Advertisement Justice Roz Mawar Rozain, delivering her decision on Tuesday, condemned the handling of the case as a 'profound failure of Malaysia's law enforcement system'. The court found that police breached their duty of care while investigating the circumstances surrounding Smit's death. Justice Roz Mawar cited a litany of failings, including the premature classification of the case, mishandling of the crime scene, failures in preserving evidence and inadequate treatment of witnesses and suspects. She also noted the neglect of foreign evidence and the dismissal of expert testimony. 'These are simple and clear pieces that corroborate my finding that there were breaches of the duty of care,' she said. Smit, who was 18 at the time, was found dead on the sixth-floor balcony of CapSquare Residence on December 7, 2017, after falling from the 20th floor of a unit owned by American couple Alex Johnson and Luna Almazkyzy.

At least 2 people shot at Manhattan office building housing financial firms and NFL
At least two people, including a New York City police officer, were shot on Monday in a midtown office building that houses some of the country's top financial firms and the National Football League, a person familiar with the matter told Associated Press. The person, who did not immediately know the victims' conditions, was not authorised to publicly discuss the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity. The Fire Department of New York said emergency crews were called to the Park Avenue office building on Monday evening for a report of someone shot. A spokesperson said the call came in at around 6.30pm but provided no other details. Police provided no additional information. Local television footage showed queues of people evacuating the office building with their hands above their heads. The building includes offices of Blackstone, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan and the consulate general of Ireland. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Deputy Director Dan Bongino said in a social media post that agents and other bureau staff were responding to provide support to what he said was an 'active crime scene'. Mayor Eric Adams posted on social media that there was an 'active shooter investigation' in Midtown. He urged people to stay indoors and take safety precautions if they are in the area.
