Microsoft releases lightweight Office taskbar apps for Windows 11
The Microsoft 365 companion apps, as Microsoft calls them, are starting to roll out to business users of Microsoft 365 this month. The People companion provides a browsable org chart, as well as the ability to look up anyone in your company. You can also quickly start a Teams message or call with a contact, or email them directly.
The File Search companion is designed for quick access to Microsoft 365 files from the Windows 11 taskbar. You can search by file name, author, or other keywords to find files across OneDrive, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, and Outlook. There's also an option to preview a file before you open it, and plenty of filtering and sharing options.
The Calendar app is a quick view of a Microsoft 365 calendar from the taskbar, where you can see upcoming events, search for appointments, or join meetings.
All three apps have been in beta in recent months, after Microsoft originally announced them at its Ignite conference last year. They are now heading to all business users of Microsoft 365 as part of a general availability release this month. The apps will be automatically installed as long as Microsoft 365 apps are installed on a Windows 11 system. IT admins can prevent the automatic install of these Microsoft 365 companion apps, and end users can stop them from automatically launching at startup.

The invisible architects: How can ingredient brands scale?
It's the story as old as (industrial) time. In the design/innovation world, not every great result will carry its maker's name. There are some notable exceptions. Corning is the widely known supplier of ultradurable glass (Gorilla Glass) used in iPhones, for example. And GORE-TEX is known for premium outdoor gears' breathable waterproof membrane, a material of choice. But behind most every iconic solution there are scores of silent partners like our own, Chang Robotics, whose involvement may never be known. Herein lies the problem: How can you gain recognition, build authority, and attract new business while honoring strict NDAs or white-label relationships? I know this challenge keenly. We provide scores of organizations with game-changing automation. But how will the next set of Fortune 500 CEOs considering new automation or reshoring know they should talk to us? We are far from alone. In 2022, there were some 239,000 U.S. manufacturing organizations — engineering firms, product designers, and R&D labs. All but 4,177 have fewer than 500 employees. We comprise the legions whose design and production touches most products we experience, but whose names are seldom part of the story. Here are five ways to share the news about our achievements to allow us to scale: 1. Tell the story without naming names One of the most effective strategies is to frame your achievements by category, not by client. Rather than revealing client names we describe the following: The type of client: e.g., 'a Fortune 100 healthcare device manufacturer' or 'a leading North American foods and packaging provider.' The challenge solved: e.g., 'We accelerated time-to-market by 42% for a new diagnostic platform.' The impact achieved: e.g., 'We are eliminating the use of PFAs (forever chemicals) in food packaging.' We can maintain confidentiality while still showcasing credible and impactful stories. In some cases, we can show the world a physical product in final development before any branding is attached. Sometimes after time passes and development cycles are complete, customers may be willing to officially or unofficially acknowledge a partner's role. Or they may allow the client to use them as a confidential reference, or name them as client if you don't disclose confidential details of your work. Any of these moves, especially in aggregate, can speed your ability to gain the authority you deserve. 2. Own your domain expertise through thought leadership Even when you can't name who you're working with, you can be very clear about what you do and why it matters. Take every possible opportunity to publish thought leadership reports that explore: Emerging trends in your field Lessons learned from anonymous project work Predictions about where your segment is headed Provide this information in as specific and meaningful detail as possible. We do this frequently through white papers and research reports about the industries and development categories we touch. This strategy positions your brand as a go-to expert without violating confidential ground. Some of your clients or prospective clients may even be willing to participate in the white paper projects as sources. 3. Create your own use cases When you can't speak about the solutions you've built for others, consider building your own. Create demo products, concept videos, or 'hypothetical' use cases that mirror real-world applications aligned with industries you're targeting. Or—taken to full fruition—underwrite and support portfolio firms of your own. We've stepped into this arena, creating the Chang Robotics Fund, which has already invested in eight companies. It is allowing us to scale in several significant ways: 1) We can be fully visible for our roles in each portfolio company. 2) We can display the results of our technical prowess. 3) Perhaps most valuable for us, some results are based on IP from our core employees. This provides them the opportunity to participate as equity owners in their projects while also enjoying the security of their employee positions. To a large degree, this is a model where everyone wins. 4. Gain visibility through the right channels In your effort to gain authority in your sector, focus on information channels that reward expertise over promotional content such as: Contribute to leading business and trade publications or speak at industry events. My participation in the Fast Company Innovation Council is an example of this. Use platforms like LinkedIn, X, and even TikTok to share expertise and insights (not sales pitches) aligned with the vertical markets you serve. I cannot emphasize the value of these efforts enough, as they comprise some of our most successful achievements in driving new business in 2025-2026. These environments elevate your voice among peers and prospects without needing to self-promote or name-drop. 5. Partner with clients for joint wins When your clients can publicly acknowledge your role, even as a footnote, be ready to draft joint case studies, share in award applications, and coauthor technical papers or conference presentations. This is more difficult when clients are publicly traded organizations. But many clients (and particularly major university clients and partners) are open to win-win mutual visibility. This is especially true in technical fields where peer credibility counts, and the academic research can be helpful for your own organization as well.

The iPhone ringtone gets upgraded in iOS 26, and one tone is incredible
Close your eyes and try to imagine the iPhone ringtone, and chances are, you'll be able to, or at least you'll recognize it once you hear it. The current iPhone ringtone — Reflection — was launched alongside the iPhone X in 2017, but in the latest iOS 26 beta (the sixth one), Reflection is about to get a major upgrade. The new beta — which dropped earlier this week — features six different tones for Reflection, each reflecting (pun intended) a different variation on the same tune. Rather than one ringtone, there are six distinct remixes of Reflection and one of them is phenomenal. So much so, I can't wait for iOS 26 to launch in the Fall so we can hear this in the wild. Recommended Videos Here are the new ringtones and everything else that's pertinent in iOS 26 beta 6! The new ringtones in iOS 26 beta 6 The seven different Reflections tones are: Default (original) Buoyant Dreamer Pond Pop Reflected Surge As seen by the surge of activity across social media, there's one that stands out in particular: Dreamer. Apple had no business going THIS HARD with the new 'Dreamer' ringtone!! 🔥 (iOS 26 Beta 6) — Brandon Butch (@BrandonButch) August 11, 2025 apple cooked with the new ringtone 🔉sound on! 🔉 — Holly – I like tech (@AnxiousHolly) August 12, 2025 The default Reflections ringtone is perfectly fine, but since I first listened to this new remix, I've been excited for iOS 26 to launch in the Fall. Listening through it, the Dreamer tone keeps your attention thanks to timely drops that emulate a DJ scratching a record. It sounds exactly as I would imagine it would if a DJ were to remix it in a nightclub. The other key iOS 26 Beta 6 changes One of the biggest improvements in iOS 26 Beta 6 is the speed of app launches or transitions to and from the homescreen. It's a significant improvement over previous betas and past versions of iOS, and this alone makes iOS 26 feel considerably fresher than past updates. Then there are a host of tweaks to Liquid Glass as Apple looks for the perfect balance between readability and translucency. There is now more color dispersion as you move between tabs in an app, as well as new Liquid Glass effects for the Lock Screen and toggles throughout the UX. Lastly, there are continued refinements and bug fixes throughout the OS, especially considering how large an improvement it is. Apple is entering the home stretch for iOS 26, and so far, it's shaping up to be one of the company's biggest software releases ever.

Bitcoin Prices Reach Fresh, All-Time High Above $124,000
Bitcoin prices rallied on Wednesday, August 11, reaching a fresh, all-time high above $124,000. The world's most valuable digital currency had climbed to roughly $124,380 around 8:30 p.m. EST, according to Coinbase data from TradingView. Interestingly enough, ether, the second-most valuable cryptocurrency, was also in the green, rising to more than $4,750, less than $150 from the record high it reached in 2021, additional Coinbase figures from TradingView reveal. When explaining these latest price movements, analyst Joe DiPasquale cited several variables. 'Bitcoin's push to new highs is being fueled by strong ETF inflows, ongoing institutional adoption, and a supportive macro backdrop with rate cuts back on the table,' said DiPasquale, CEO of cryptocurrency hedge fund manager BitBull Capital. 'Once BTC broke through prior resistance, momentum traders piled in, amplifying the rally,' he added. Going forward, investors have a positive view of the innovative asset, he continued, stating that 'Sentiment remains firmly bullish as investors view bitcoin as both a growth asset and an inflation hedge.' Several analysts spoke to the implications of bitcoin's latest zenith, including Tim Enneking, managing partner of Psalion, who claimed that 'Although BTC just barely put in a new ATH today (at least, so far), there is almost certainly much more to come.' 'Unlike any other digital or fiat asset, the fundamental nature of the BTC market is in the process of radical change,' he emphasized. 'There is an ever-growing list of companies, countries, states, provinces and massive whales all beginning to accumulate BTC.' 'And, today, almost no one is still proclaiming BTC to be a currency or a medium of exchange,' Enneking continued. 'But, virtually everyone agrees that it has become a nearly perfect store of value: finite supply, not controlled by any single (or small group) actor, easily transferrable, potentially not traceable (pass on a flash drive and avoid the blockchain), secure (although a quantum-defense fork will be needed relatively soon), durable and, increasingly, popular with large, institutional investors.' 'Many of these characteristics are new and, therefore, their implications have not been fully priced in,' he claimed. 'Over the past eight months, the value of BTC has only increased 20%; gold has appreciated more – and with far fewer, secular tailwinds. Therefore, there is a strong argument that BTC is significantly undervalued and I think we are just beginning to see the market understand and absorb that,' Enneking concluded. Ben Kurland, CEO at crypto research platform DYOR, also spoke to the implications of the latest price movements of bitcoin and ether, emphasizing how the overall crypto space has matured over time. 'Bitcoin setting a new all time high and ETH edging ever closer to doing so means we've moved from the speculative, retail-driven mania of previous bull runs to a place where institutions are adopting, real-world integrations are happening, and global liquidity is increasingly driving more efficient price discovery.' he stated via email. 'It's telling that both assets are surging like this in tandem, and it signals more broad market conviction than just a single-asset rally,' said Kurland. 'Momentum this strong often has legs because it tends to draw in latecomers who can further fuel even more volatility.' 'Right now, the story is more about validation than euphoria — and it means that crypto is graduating from an 'alternative' asset to an 'essential' one in the foundational portfolio mix,' he stated.
