Christopher Briney and Girlfriend Isabel Machado Were Roommates Before Falling in Love

Elle24-07-2025
As an integral part of the love triangle that powers Amazon Prime's The Summer I Turned Pretty, Christopher Briney's personal life is of the utmost interest to fans. However, the 27-year-old actor does not have as many ups-and-downs off screen as he does in the hit series while playing Conrad Fisher. Briney has been consistently dating one woman for about half a decade now, actress Isabel Machado.
Briney rarely talks much about their relationship in public, though he did celebrate her birthday in February 2025 with a carousel of photos, writing in the caption, 'my dear isabel turns 27 today 💓 thank you for always walking by my side, you make me the luckiest boy in the world.'
Here's everything to know about the theater star and her relationship with Briney over the years, from friends to lovers.
Isabel Rose Machado is originally from Chicago, according to her website. She moved to New York to attend Pace University, where she got her BFA in Acting for Film, Television, Voice Over & Commercial, graduating in 2020. While Machado has a number of screen credits, per her resume, she has a real passion for song and dance, which she incorporates in her theater work. She is a trained first soprano, can reach a high G note, play the piano, and has training in ballet, jazz, and modern dance. She even attended the Cecchetti Council of America for more dance training.
Briney has also hyped up Machado's fashion sense, joking with People at the 2023 Women's Wear Daily Honors in October 2023, 'The biggest thing [Isabel has told me] is just wear something that you think is cool. Not something that you think someone else thinks is cool. It's hard to do that, easier said than done.'
Machado added, 'And even when the fashion risks don't pay off. We support each other in anything. It doesn't matter—if it's a hell yes, it's a hell yes, and if [one of us] is going to do [something, the other] is going to support you.'
Briney also starred in the newest film iteration of Mean Girls and shared during a 2023 red carpet interview with Access Hollywood at the premiere, 'I couldn't do it without her. I couldn't do anything without her. I don't think I could wake up without her. I'd forget how to breathe.'
The pair met in school at Pace, becoming friends and even living together as roommates before getting together romantically.
'We were friends first. We went to college together, and we lived together. We knew that we could do it,' Briney told People.
In an old TikTok, they can be seen doing a scene together, playing a couple going through a breakup.
Machado's first public Instagram post from 2018 features Briney walking 'downtown' with her in New York.
In a conversation for Interview Magazine, Briney shared, 'One of my girlfriend's first memories of me—we went to college together, and we didn't date until after college—it was when we were all at our college bar, and I was doing magic card tricks, trying to flex on people, which is absolutely absurd.'
In June 2022, she joined him for the season one of The Summer I Turned Pretty, marking their red carpet debut.
That was also the month Briney posted a tribute to their first anniversary, writing, 'a whole year!? i could never want anything else 💘'

Rescue Puppy Attends Daycare, Owner Can't Cope With What Happens at Pick Up

When Katie Tang, 27, arrived at the doggy daycare to collect her 6-month-old puppy Aspen, there didn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary at first. But when one of the workers said she had something to talk about, Tang feared the worst. Tang, of Queens, New York, told Newsweek that her "heart immediately dropped" and she thought she was about to receive some bad news about Aspen. But after seeing the look on her face, the worker quickly reassured Tang that it was good news, because Aspen, a poodle, Maltese, and Shih Tzu mix, had won the "Dog of the Week" award. Indeed, Tang was directed to the adorable poster on the wall with Aspen's photo on it. Katie Tang, 27, and Aspen winning the award at daycare. Katie Tang, 27, and Aspen winning the award at daycare. @aspenfluffernut / TikTok "When I realized that Aspen was Dog of the Week, I welled up with pride and definitely let out a few tears," Tang said. "Aspen is my special boy, but for someone else to recognize how special he is, was an incredible feeling. "The daycare had a paw competition that day, and Aspen had the fastest and cleanest paw. He was also in general a cuddly boy and good listener, and they wanted to highlight what a good boy he always is." As this was Aspen's first time winning the award, Tang simply had to get a picture of him next to the poster. She shared an adorable video of this moment on the dog's dedicated TikTok account (@aspenfluffernut) and it has delighted internet users. In just a matter of days, the video has gone viral with over 395,600 views and more than 116,800 likes on TikTok. The caption layered over the clip jokes, "Is this what being a parent feels like?" Of course, Tang was sure to reward Aspen that evening with a delicious meal of homemade chicken bone broth and salmon skin. She also served up "his favorite" treat for dessert—some refreshing watermelon. Aspen was rescued from Bobbi and the Strays Rescue in Freeport, New York when he was just 8 weeks old. He's settled into his new home wonderfully well, and he's come an awful long way since. Now, he knows 15 tricks and Tang is even working on more with him, including a "sit pretty" command and "stretch." Tang loves sharing Aspen's new life on social media, from going to work with her, or the dreaded bath time. The online response has been incredibly positive, and it even feels like "a little community" for dog lovers to share pictures of their dogs and their accomplishments. Tang told Newsweek: "The reaction to his video has been so heartwarming and has been making me smile every day. To see the internet cheer my little puppy on has made me feel so warm and connected. Reading through the comments and seeing all those amazing pictures has made my day since the post went up, and just really shows that dogs bring out the best in people." Social media users have been quick to praise Aspen for his remarkable achievement, leading to more than 500 comments on the TikTok post so far. One comment reads: "We are SO proud." Another TikTok user wrote: "His little pose. He's proud of himself too." While another person replied: "Congratulations Aspen! Your internet aunties are so proud of you." The August 6 clip shared by Savannah (@_savansta_) captioned "the cat distribution system finally got to me," has racked up 385,000 likes and 1.9 million views. It documents the feline's journey from hiding her newborn kittens in a spare tire to living her best life in a cozy home. The montage begins with the fluffy tabby giving birth on a couch in a Savannah's garage, before retreating to the safety of a tire with her tiny litter of two. Filming from a distance, Savannah explained the cat was initially wary and would hiss if approached. "I was scared she would try to scratch or bite me, but she was surprisingly chill," she wrote. @_savansta_ the cat distribution system finally got to me 🥹🥰 edit: thank you guys for all the love! link to amazon wishlist for them in my bio💕 ♬ original sound - savannah Over time, the cat began greeting Savannah at her feet before meals, eventually seeking out affection and head rubs. "She just wanted to be loved," read the text over one clip, as the cat snuggled in before checking on her kittens. Savannah admitted she quickly fell in love with her new shadow. Despite her parents' reluctance to keep the feline, she decided the stray was staying. After a vet visit, the cat and her kittens were welcomed indoors, trading a cold wheel for a soft bed. Now, the trio are thriving and often go viral online. Two screenshots from the viral video showing the cat grooming her kittens who are now much-bigger. We could not verify the details of the case. One user commented, "Imagine how she felt that first night with her babies inside," to which Savannah replied, "I haven't got to imagine — she purred all night long." Viewers speculated about the cat's past, with many suggesting she had once been a house pet. "Someone dumped her. she's not feral at all," said one user and Savannah responded: "I think it's probable that maybe she went into heat and ran away from home, whatever the case I'm glad she found me." A third commenter agreed: "Oh look how content they are - 100% she was loved and indoors at one point," said a third user and Savannah said: "Most likely true. I feel bad for whoever's missing out on her [because] she's the sweetest she's my baby now." According to Alley Cat Allies, a non-profit organization stray cats have often lived indoors before losing or leaving their homes. While they may grow distant from humans over time, with patience and kindness, many — like Savannah's new companion — can find their way back to loving human company.
