Gandapur enunciates women uplift projects
The event, organized by the Provincial Commission on the Status of Women, was attended by Minister for Social Welfare Syed Qasim Ali Shah, K-P Assembly Deputy Speaker Suraiya Bibi, officials from Social Welfare Department, and large number of women from various walks of life.
The Gender Parity Report 2024 is a comprehensive data-driven document that highlights gender equality trends in the province, providing insights into access to services, socio-economic participation, and political representation of men and women. The report aims to serve as a guiding document for stakeholders working towards gender equality.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Minister Gandapur emphasized the importance of accurate data for policymaking and decision-making, and commended the officials involved in compiling the report, stating that no developmental initiative can succeed without reliable data.
He assured that the issues identified in the report would be addressed on a priority basis, and after endorsement by the provincial assembly, it would be shared with the federal government to encourage nationwide efforts for gender equality.
The K-P CM reaffirmed his government's commitment to women's participation in economic and social programs, particularly through the Ehsaas Youth Employment and Ehsaas Skills Development initiatives. He said that women, who make up more than half of the country's population, are key to national progress and that protecting the rights of women and marginalized groups is essential for prosperity.
Highlighting efforts in girls' education, he remarked that the provincial government had established 2,800 Girls' Community Schools, providing education to thousands of girls. Additionally, a voucher scheme had been launched to enroll out-of-school girls, while scholarships and stipends were being provided to reduce the dropout rate in government schools.
Ali Amin Gandapur pointed out that the government had set up Women Police Desks in police stations and established Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Courts across the province to improve women's safety and access to justice. He said special open forums (Khuli Kacheris) are being organized under the Public Agenda Program to address women's issues on a priority basis.
The K-P CM said the provincial government has launched Sahara Card Program, which provides a monthly stipend of Rs10,000 to widows aged 45 and above. Additionally, the government is facilitating women's inheritance rights, ensuring they receive their legal share of property.

At the inauguration, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah praised KCCI and announced the launch of Independence Day celebrations under the theme "Maarka-e-Haq," representing Pakistan's continued struggle for justice and unity. The BMG chairman highlighted that this year's edition saw participation from 7 consulates and over 20 multinationals. He noted growing demand to hold the event biannually and urged early completion of the K-IV water project to resolve industrial supply issues. KCCI President Muhammad Jawed Bilwani lauded all stakeholders, reiterated the need for a modern Expo Center, and called for fair water and gas distribution. He also stressed better surveillance and infrastructure to ensure business confidence. The event combined shopping and family entertainment with discussions between government officials, business leaders, and foreign missions on economic and civic issues.

Quota, compensation raised for police martyrs
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police, Zulfiqar Hameed, has said that the police martyrdom compensation package had been raised to Rs11 million, and the recruitment quota for martyrs' families increased from five per cent to 12.5 per cent. He added that K-P Police have made unparalleled sacrifices to transform the dark night of terrorism into the light of a peaceful dawn. He added that the spirit of freedom, martyrdom, and courage runs deep in the blood of the people and forces of K-P for centuries. Reaffirming their commitment, he vowed that every officer and soldier of the force would continue to serve the nation until their last drop of blood, drawing inspiration from the sacrifices of their predecessors. He expressed these views while addressing the 11th annual Police Martyrs Day ceremony held in Peshawar. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, was the chief guest on the occasion. The police chief said that August 4 holds special significance for them, as it is an opportunity to pay tribute to those who laid down their lives for the nation, while renewing the pledge that their sacrifices will never be forgotten. He added that every officer and jawan of the K-P Police has stood like an unbreakable wall against terrorists, confronting the enemy with unwavering courage and determination.

Bajaur, Mohmand elders reject operations
The second session of regional consultative Jirgas on law and order, initiated by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, was held on Monday at the Chief Minister's House in Peshawar. The meeting saw active participation from elders and elected representatives of Bajaur and Mohmand districts. The high-level session was also attended by Advisor to the Chief Minister Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Senator Noorul Haq Qadri, the Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police, as well as commissioners, deputy commissioners, and senior police officials. Participants held detailed deliberations on the worsening law and order situation and presented several key recommendations. Stressing their unwavering commitment to peace, they declared: "We want peace and call upon the government to ensure it. We are ready to fully cooperate. Terrorism is the enemy of all, and we stand united against it." The Jirga unanimously rejected proposals for military operations and displacement, deeming them unacceptable. Instead, they recommended the formation of a broad-based and empowered Jirga, comprising federal and provincial representatives, tribal elders, and other key stakeholders, to initiate meaningful dialogue with the Afghan government and people for long-term peace. Participants welcomed the initiative of local Jirgas, calling it a positive step and urged its expansion and effectiveness to benefit other conflict-affected regions. It may be recalled that following the All Parties Conference (APC) convened by Chief Minister last month, the provincial government has officially launched a series of regional Jirgas aimed at addressing the pressing issues of peace, security, and development in the merged tribal districts of the province. The first of these regional consultative Jirgas was held on Saturday at the Chief Minister's House in Peshawar. The gathering brought together a diverse array of participants from the Khyber and Orakzai districts, as well as from the tribal sub-divisions of Darra Adam Khel and Hassan Khel. In total, more than 150 tribal elders and community leaders were present, in addition to six members of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, three members of the National Assembly, and one senator. Senior provincial officials, including Advisor to the Chief Minister on Information Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, and Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, also participated in the Jirga. They were joined by commissioners, deputy commissioners, and senior police officers from the concerned districts. In a unanimous declaration, the Jirga participants put forth key recommendations to guide the province's future strategy in the tribal belt.
