Scoop: Regal South Beach could be replaced by "Superhuman" art museum
Why it matters: Regal South Beach is back on the chopping block after surviving a 2023 corporate downsizing effort — and a familiar face is behind the new redevelopment plans.
Driving the news: BH 1100 Lincoln Road LLC, the owner of the 1100 Lincoln Road property, and a business associate are seeking city approval to redevelop the theater into an "immersive modern art museum" called the Superhuman Museum.
The intrigue: Steve Berke, a former Miami Beach mayoral candidate whose comical campaign tactics gained national attention back in 2011, is listed as an applicant on the plans and refers to himself as the CEO of the Superhuman Museum on LinkedIn.
What they're saying: Berke, who co-founded the International Church of Cannabis in Denver, tells Axios that Superhuman won't be like traditional art museums, which often feel like visiting a "graveyard of art."
Large-scale "immersive installations" will share space with "blue chip pieces" from artists like Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat, he says.
Seventeen exhibits, full of art and "cutting-edge technology," will "encourage visitors to explore their inner spiritual thoughts," Berke says.
"We believe that everyone who enters will exit as a new person, smiling, and spiritually enriched."
Catch up quick: Berke, who ran for mayor in 2011 and 2013, is a Yale-educated entrepreneur whose resumé includes being a reality TV show contestant and parody songwriter with several viral YouTube music videos.
His current business ventures include the International Church of Cannabis, a marijuana-themed light show venue housed in an old Lutheran church, and a Fort Lauderdale pizzeria called Munchie's Pizza Club.
During his political campaigns, Berke used music videos and publicity stunts — like the time he had Sexy Sax Man serenade the mayor — to raise awareness for his political platform and try to land an MTV documentary.
What's next: The city's Planning Board is scheduled to consider the application at its July 1 meeting.
If a requested conditional use permit is approved, the interior of the building will be gutted.
"Our plans are to use the existing infrastructure of the theaters to create a unique narrative based walk through experience that takes you from theater to theater," Berke says.

Giada De Laurentiis calls out Mario Batali for degrading her body in cookbook foreword
Giada De Laurentiis had a bad experience with Mario Batali. The Food Network star, 54, recently appeared on Samah Dada's YouTube show, 'On the Menu,' and recalled asking now-disgraced chef Mario Batali to write the foreword for her 2005 cookbook, 'Everyday Italian.' However, Batali's comments in the book were far from kind. Advertisement 8 Mario Batali and Giada De Laurentiis on 'The Chew' in 2014. Karol G to headline halftime show during YouTube's first exclusive NFL broadcast
NEW YORK -- Bringing football fans, Brazil and Karol G together for a one-night experience? That's a winning formula. The Grammy award-winning musician will headline a halftime show during YouTube's first exclusive NFL broadcast next month, which will stream live from Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil on Sept. 5. That's the NFL week 1 matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and the reigning AFC-winning Kansas City Chiefs. 'This year has been truly rewarding, and the timing of this opportunity — to be part of such an important moment like YouTube's first-ever NFL live broadcast — is perfect,' the singer shared in an exclusive written statement. 'With my latest album 'Tropicoqueta,' I set out to represent the many facets of my Latin culture, something I'm incredibly passionate about in everything I do. I'm excited to bring that same energy and pride to this global stage and honored to continue elevating Latin culture on such a monumental platform.' It's a natural pairing. Karol G is a global superstar, American football is growing in popularity worldwide, and many of the world's most ardent music fans call Brazil home — it's one of the many reasons 'Come to Brazil' has become a stalwart meme, a three-word stand-in for the ultimate expression of fandom. 'Our goal is to highlight the excitement and Americana of the NFL, but do this thoughtfully in a way that plays to local cultures, practices and traditions,' said Tim Tubito, senior director of global game presentation and entertainment at the NFL. Booking Karol G 'not only excites our fans and pays homage to their culture in South America, but has an impact on a global scale,' he added. 'We hope all of our fans are ready for a historic celebration.' The game is free to stream for fans across the globe, exclusively through YouTube and YouTube TV. It begins at 5 p.m. Pacific / 8 p.m. Eastern / 9 p.m. BRT (local time). A pre-show kicks off an hour earlier. 'To celebrate this moment, we are thrilled that global superstar Karol G will perform during our halftime show,' said Angela Courtin, VP of sports and entertainment marketing at YouTube in a statement. 'The game and performance will be broadcast worldwide for free on YouTube, blending the fandom of sports and music together for one epic cultural moment.'

How to watch last 20 minutes of Taylor Swift on New Heights after glitch
Wednesday night's New Heights episode with Taylor Swift went almost perfectly. Jason Kelce was a phenomenal host, and it was clear why Swift wanted to do her first interview in ages with Jason and her boyfriend Travis Kelce. The trio covered a litany of topics, ranging from Travis and Taylor's relationship to football to sourdough bread to her family. They, of course, discussed Swift's new album at length as the 14-time Grammy winner announced the title (The Life Of A Showgirl), release date (October 3) and cover art on the podcast. Although things seemed to be wrapping up at the hour and 44 minute mark, the stream abruptly cut off without a real sign-off. It was quickly discovered that there was a technical issue of some sort, with about 20 minutes of the episode unseen. The New Heights folks -- shoutout to producers Brandon and Jake -- immediately got to work trying to fix the issue while not having people lose their place in the episode (or lose the views to that point). It has to be said that the ability of YouTube and their servers to host a million viewers with no initial delays or crashes. The late-episode drop-off was inconvenient, but at least we had been gifted nearly two hours of in-depth Taylor discussion at that point. If you haven't yet seen the last 20 minutes, the link to pick up where the glitch occurred is now available. Overall, a well-done endeavor by everyone involved.
