He emphasized that Pakistan should focus on forming joint ventures with China in the agricultural, industrial, and mineral sectors to acquire modern technology. He added that if China's technical expertise and investment—already well established under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)—are concentrated in these critical areas, the outcome will not only boost trade but may also redefine the direction of Pakistan's overall economic growth.
Khadim Hussain further highlighted that China's global track record in enhancing operational capacity and implementing infrastructure projects is commendable, whereas Pakistan has not yet been able to achieve the full economic benefits of CPEC due to a lack of internal preparedness.
He pointed out that CPEC's next phase is focused on industrial cooperation and sustainable development, and a renewed emphasis on agriculture and mineral resources could help transform the corridor into a truly multi-dimensional economic framework. For this to happen, Pakistan must concentrate on enhancing its domestic capacity, ensuring the path to sustainable economic growth and self-reliance.

Wheat steadies after ample supply pushes prices to 5-year low
CANBERRA: Chicago wheat futures rose on Thursday after ample supply and the placing of bearish bets by speculators powered a weeks-long sell-off that drove prices to a five-year low on Wednesday. Corn futures also gained after falling to contract lows in the previous session, and soybeans edged up from their lowest price levels since April. As with wheat, global supply of both crops is plentiful. The most-active wheat contract on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) was up 0.6% at $5.11-1/2 a bushel at 0537 GMT after falling as low as 5.04 on Wednesday. CBOT corn rose 0.7% to $4.04 a bushel and soybeans climbed 0.2% to $9.86-1/4 a bushel. Northern Hemisphere wheat harvests have been flooding the market with new-crop grain. Export competition is strong and demand not large enough to support prices. Wheat from central area of Russia, the biggest exporter, is reaching ports, easing concerns about availability after poor early harvest results in southern regions. Recent rainfall has boosted the outlook for harvests in Canada, Australia and Argentina, traders said. Falling corn futures have also dragged down wheat by incentivising poultry and livestock producers turn feed cheap corn to their animals instead of wheat. The U.S. is expected to produce bumper corn and soy harvests later in the year. Analysts polled by Reuters think the U.S. Department of Agriculture will raise its estimates in a monthly report due on August 12. Funds have expanded their net short position in CBOT wheat, corn and soybeans in the last couple of weeks, traders say. Hanging over prices are concerns that U.S. President Donald Trump's aggressive trade policies will result in lower exports of U.S. grains and oilseeds. China's buying of several cargoes of Argentinian soymeal 'is clearly sending a message to the United States that it can find ways to fill its needs without U.S. soybeans,' StoneX analyst Arlan Suderman wrote in a note. Analysts at JPMorgan also this week said 'heightened uncertainty, particularly surrounding the future of US-China trade and wider implications for global growth, is contributing to a widespread state of apathy across row crop markets.'

Advanced security features introduced in passport: Minister told
ISLAMABAD: The backlog of passport applications has ended, and advanced security features have been introduced, said Immigration and Passport (I&P) Directorate Director General (DG) Mustafa Jamal Qazi on Wednesday. Qazi said this, while briefing Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal at the passport headquarters. During the visit, the federal minister toured various sections of the Passport Directorate and observed the passport production process. The DG of passports, briefed the minister on the latest advancements in passport lamination and security features. The issue of passport backlog has been eliminated, with all pending passport applications being processed efficiently, Qazi further said. He said that the directorate is providing an easy online passport service for overseas Pakistanis, so that they can access essential services remotely. Thanks to modern printing technologies and state-of-the-art offices, the passport processing time has been significantly reduced, he said. Jamal expressed interest in the incorporation of artificial intelligence in passport production. He emphasised that the timely delivery of passports and the introduction of advanced security features in line with the government's vision is a commendable step forward for Pakistan. CM monitors road test: Punjab set to start latest SRT train
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif had a trial trip in Pakistan's first urban electric train, Super Autonomous Rapid Transit (SRT). She personally monitored the road test of 'Super Autonomous Rapid Transit' (SRT) from Main Ali Town to Muslim Town. She inspected the SRT, and reviewed its various facilities. The CM was briefed in detail by Minister for Transport Bilal Akbar about the SRT. The Chief Minister also reviewed road test drive of the SRT, and checked running of SRT amidst normal traffic. People on Raiwind Road and Canal Road expressed happiness after seeing the 'Super Autonomous Rapid Transit (SRT)', which is being run successfully in Turkey, China and other countries. She was apprised, 'In Abu Dhabi, 03 bogies of 'Super Autonomous Rapid Transit', against a capacity of 04, have been installed. Norco International's latest SRT has a capacity of 320 passengers. The first complete e-train 'Super Autonomous Rapid Transit' can travel 40 kilometres after a single charge.' She was also briefed, 'Super Autonomous Rapid Transit (SRT) will have air conditioning and other facilities. It will reduce environmental pollution, and will improve traffic on roads.' The CM said, 'People of Punjab are now waiting for good news every day. Beauty of Lahore will be doubled with the running of SRT. Good news of SRT is also coming to Gujranwala and Faisalabad.'
