‘Not interested in playing in India': PAK opener clears air on Women's World Cup controversy amid Pahalgam terror attack
Pakistan booked their spot for the upcoming ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, after a sensational run in the recently concluded Qualifier. Pakistan's qualification also confirmed that the tournament will be held in hybrid as their matches vs India will be played in a neutral venue. Pakistan, who are ranked ninth in ODI team rankings, bagged five wins in five fixtures, including victories against higher-ranked sides West Indies (sixth) and Bangladesh (eighth). Their qualification has created controversy as India is set to host the 2025 Women's World Cup later this year. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has already confirmed that they won't be travelling to the host's country.
Meanwhile, Pakistan opener Gull Feroza, who played three matches in the Qualifier as an opener, also confirmed her team's stance on playing in India.
Speaking to PakPassion, she was asked about not knowing where Pakistan will play the tournament.
'We know this much that we will play in Asian conditions and we are not playing in India. This is clear. Neither are we interested in playing in India,' she said.
'So, wherever it is played - hopefully in Sri Lanka or Dubai - those conditions are similar to the ones you get in Asia. The Qualifiers were at home, and the staff prepared tracks accordingly. Wherever the World Cup games are played, the conditions will be similar to those we have at home. So, our preparation will be according to that, and we are ready for that,' she added.
Especially since the Pahalgam terrorist attack this month, diplomatic relations between both India and Pakistan have taken a further hit. The Tokyo Olympics gold medallist had sent an invite to reigning Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem (from Pakistan) for his exclusive tournament NC Classic. The invite was sent before the attack. Chopra received abuse, criticism from fans on social media after the attack. Meanwhile, Nadeem also rejected the invitation, citing other commitments.
The Indian men's team also didn't travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy this year, and their matches, including the final, were played in Dubai.

Indias home season: Kolkata, Delhi swap Tests against Windies and SA
New Delhi, Jun 9 (PTI) Kolkata's Eden Gardens and Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium will swap their allocated Test matches against West Indies and South Africa respectively during India's upcoming home season, the BCCI announced on Monday. While Delhi was set to host the opening Test against South Africa from November 14-18, it will now host the second Test against West Indies starting October 10. Though the BCCI release doesn't state the reason for the venue swap, it is understood that air pollution levels in mid-November in the National Capital Region become a health hazard like it happened during a Test match against Sri Lanka few years back. The Sri Lankan fielders were wearing masks and a few reportedly suffered from breathing problems. It is understood that BCCI's Cricket Operations team collated the AQI data over the past few years and decided that venue swap is a viable option. India's home season starts with two WTC Tests against West Indies, starting October 2 in Ahmedabad, followed by the Delhi Test. India then play a full three format series against South Africa starting with two Tests, followed by three ODIs and five T20 Internationals across various Indian venues. While Kolkata hosts the opening Test against the Proteas, Guwahati's Barsapara Stadium will become the latest Test venue as the second Test will be played from November 22 to 26. The ODIs will be held at Ranchi (November 30), Raipur (December 3) and Visakhapatnam (December 6). The five T20Is will be held at Cuttack (December 9), New Chandigarh (December 11), Dharamsala (December 14), Lucknow (December 17) and Ahmedabad (December 19). Meanwhile Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has expressed its inability to host the women's ODI series against Australia starting September 14, which was supposed to serve as a pre-cursor to the 50-over World Cup starting September 30. The first two matches of the series will now be played in Mullanpur (New Chandigarh) and the third match in New Delhi. Men's A series vs Australia and South Africa =========================== The fringe players in Indian men's team set-up will have their hands full with BCCI hosting both Australia A and South Africa A for four 'unofficial Tests' and six List A games. Both the touring sides will play two 'Tests' and three List A games each. Australia A series will happen in Lucknow and Kanpur while Bengaluru's COE will host the Proteas A team for the 'unofficial Tests'. Rajkot will host three ODIs. Australia A Tests will be in Lucknow from September 16-19 and 23-26 giving chance to the Test specialists to get into groove for the West Indies games. Ditto for SA A series, which will be a shadow tour before the main event.

All-time great wrestler Hakuho quits Japan Sumo Association with plans to form global body
TOKYO — Hakuho, a retired 'yokozuna' or grand champion and viewed by many as the sport's greatest wrestler, quit the Japan Sumo Association on Monday after an apparent falling out with the governing body of the ancient sport. The Mongolia-born Hakuho was earlier sanctioned by the Japan Sumo Association, accused of failing to control the behavior of a wrestler in his so-called stable, the term used for a training team headed by retired wrestlers. Hakuho's stable was closed a year ago. Japanese media reports say the wrestler in question engaged in physical violence. But closing a stable, instead of just punishing an individual wrestler, was unusual. He did not directly criticize the professional Japan Sumo Association, but he said wrestlers who had trained under him were treated unfairly. Hakuho, who was granted Japanese citizenship, said he had been in talks with the association but recently decided to quit because there was no hope of reopening his stable. 'After 25 years of loving sumo and being loved by sumo, I want to advance toward a new dream,' Hakuho told reporters Monday at a Tokyo hotel. Hakuho said he wants to create a body to govern sumo outside Japan — the 'world sumo project.' 'When I think of my situation, I think it's best to contribute to sumo from the outside,' he said, wearing a dark suit and referring to the Japan Sumo Association. Appearing with a lawyer and other officials he had tapped for his team, Hakuho said they were getting corporate sponsors to back sumo grand slams, which draw amateur sumo wrestlers from around the world, including children and women. Hakuho said he was friends with Toyota Motor Corp. Chairman Akio Toyoda, who has expressed interest in supporting his efforts. Toyota already supports various amateur and professional sports activities. Many regard the Mongolia-born Hakuko as the greatest champion in the sport's history and he holds many of its records. Hahuko's late-father, who went by the given name of Monkhbat, was an Olympic silver medalist for Mongolia in 1968. He also competed in at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Sumo encompasses very strict rules and traditions that have prompted other top wrestlers to pursue careers outside the sport. Hahuko retired from active wrestling in 2021. sports: /sports
