After Pahalgam terror attack, Pakistan cricketer says ‘not interested' in playing India

Pakistan women's cricket opener Gull Feroza has hinted at the venue of the upcoming ODI World Cup, while stating that her team are not interested in playing against India. Pakistan, who are ranked 9th in the world, had recently confirmed a place in the ODI World Cup during the recently concluded qualifiers. Speaking to PakPassion about the venue of ODI World Cup, Feroza said, 'We know this much that we will play in Asian conditions and we are not playing in India. This is clear. Neither are we interested in playing in India,' she said. 'So, wherever it is played - hopefully in Sri Lanka or Dubai - those conditions are similar to the ones you get in Asia. The Qualifiers were at home, and the staff prepared tracks accordingly. Wherever the World Cup games are played, the conditions will be similar to those we have at home. So, our preparation will be according to that, and we are ready for that,' the opening batter added. Notably, the Indian cricket board, the BCCI, is the official host of the ODI World Cup in September-October. However, with the ICC allowing a hybrid model for India-Pakistan matches, it has been decided that the marquee tournament will be held at a neutral venue. Tensions between the two neighbours have been on the rise after the recent terror attack in Pahalgram, Kashmir, which left 26 civilians dead. Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly has gone so far as to suggest that cricket ties with Pakistan should be severed, but the BCCI is yet to take a final decision. Notably, India and Pakistan do not play bilateral cricket due to strained relations. However, the two teams do face each other in ICC events and even Asian Cricket Council tournaments. In the recently concluded Champions Trophy, India Men's team had refused to go to Pakistan - the host nation - and played all their matches in Dubai. First Published: 26 Apr 2025, 10:22 AM IST

‘Not interested in playing in India': PAK opener clears air on Women's World Cup controversy amid Pahalgam terror attack

Pakistan booked their spot for the upcoming ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, after a sensational run in the recently concluded Qualifier. Pakistan's qualification also confirmed that the tournament will be held in hybrid as their matches vs India will be played in a neutral venue. Pakistan, who are ranked ninth in ODI team rankings, bagged five wins in five fixtures, including victories against higher-ranked sides West Indies (sixth) and Bangladesh (eighth). Their qualification has created controversy as India is set to host the 2025 Women's World Cup later this year. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has already confirmed that they won't be travelling to the host's country. Meanwhile, Pakistan opener Gull Feroza, who played three matches in the Qualifier as an opener, also confirmed her team's stance on playing in India. Speaking to PakPassion, she was asked about not knowing where Pakistan will play the tournament. 'We know this much that we will play in Asian conditions and we are not playing in India. So, our preparation will be according to that, and we are ready for that,' she added. Especially since the Pahalgam terrorist attack this month, diplomatic relations between both India and Pakistan have taken a further hit. Also Feroza's response came after the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The attack's responsibility has been claimed by The Resistance Front, an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Even Neeraj Chopra found himself in controversy. The Tokyo Olympics gold medallist had sent an invite to reigning Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem (from Pakistan) for his exclusive tournament NC Classic. The invite was sent before the attack. Chopra received abuse, criticism from fans on social media after the attack. Meanwhile, Nadeem also rejected the invitation, citing other commitments. The Indian men's team also didn't travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy this year, and their matches, including the final, were played in Dubai.

Jason Gillespie takes legal action against PCB, refers to ICC as contract dispute deepens: Report

Former Pakistan head coach Jason Gillespie reacted on Tuesday to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) denying any contract dispute with the Aussie, as the 50-year-old took legal action against the board. Gillespie had alleged he was owed money for the work he had done and accused the Pakistan board of several breaches of his contract. Taking to Instagram, Gillespie had shared a video of his interview with Pakistan media, saying that the PCB still owes him some of his remunerations. The former Australia fast bowler, who was appointed in April 2024 on a two-year contract with the PCB, had resigned from his role as the Pakistan red-ball coach in December last year. 'Yes, without going into details. I'm still waiting on some remuneration from work that's being done. So I'll just navigate through that in due course,' Gillespie told PakPassion. PCB, however, denied all such claims. They released a statement in which they accused Gillespie of not providing the board with a four-month notice period as specified in the contract. "The Pakistan Cricket Board refutes claims made by a former head coach on the non-payment of his dues. The PCB spokesman states that the former head coach abruptly left his position without giving a four month notice period, which was a clear breach of the contractual terms. The coaching contract explicitly mentioned a notice period applicable to both parties, and the coach was fully aware of it," the PCB media statement read. According to a report in Gillespie took PCB to court after their accusation. He even referred the matter to the International Cricket Council (ICC), although it is yet to be seen if it falls under the apex body's jurisdiction. PCB, meanwhile, posted on its official website on Saturday an invitation to apply for the positions of the national team's head coach and director of its high-performance centre in Lahore. Former Test pacer Aaqib Javed has been the interim head coach in all formats since Gary Kirsten and then Gillespie resigned last year. According to a report in PTI, Aaqib is keen to take over as Director of the High Performance Centre and hence didn't want to continue as head coach.
