TimesofIndia.com in Mullanpur:

Could 2025 finally be the year RCB break their title drought? Will it be the year the curse is lifted? Will Virat Kohli finally lay his hands on the elusive title he has been chasing since 2008? Everything will be answered on June 3 in Ahmedabad.
But Kohli in the field against PBKS gave a glimpse of why this is a tournament where he refuses to lose. He is the leading run-getter for RCB in this year's IPL and seemed to run on something extra, call it a desire, a resolve or a motivation.
And it was no different on Thursday. The aggression and intensity Virat showed in the field made him look like a wounded lion who had tasted blood.
Poll
Will 2025 be the year RCB finally breaks their title drought?
Yes, definitely! No, they will fall short again.
Yes, after quitting Test cricket, he has a lot to prove. The energy with which he was patrolling the RCB troop gives you a reminder of Virat Kohli, the "on-your-face Test captain." He displayed a range of emotions in a single match: the thumping of the RCB badge, which holds a special place in his heart; the jubilation after every fall of a PBKS wicket; the fist pump in the air; rushing from the boundary line to celebrate every wicket – Kohli was at his cinematic best.
As RCB's pace trio of
, Yash Dayal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar came all guns blazing, it looked like Virat Kohli for a moment forgot that he was not the captain of RCB, as he was calling all the shots. He may no longer wear the captain's armband, but on the field, he continues to lead. His energy is relentless, his presence impossible to ignore. He was central to every tactical move — constantly in the bowlers' ears, or in the fielders' eyeline when they erred.

A growl, a stare — his expressions spoke volumes without a single word.
Josh Hazlewood - we picked up momentum from Jitesh's knock in Lucknow
Physically, he remains a remarkable athlete — enduring long spells under the punishing sun with unwavering stamina. His boundless energy continues to offset the natural decline in reflexes that comes with age. RCB pacer Josh Hazlewood summed up Virat's energy in just one short sentence: "Virat's always up and about in the field," he told reporters after the match.
He was at his theatrical best in the field, but on a wicket which had something to offer for the fast bowlers, his recurring susceptibility outside the off-stump was on display as well. The extra bounce on the sixth-stump line, which he ended up poking, did the trick for Kohli. It was a dismissal reminiscent of those that kind of put the last nail in his Test career in Australia.
But come June 3 in Ahmedabad, the pitch won't have this amount of bounce. The Narendra Modi Stadium favours batters, and RCB will bank on Kohli to not just guide them to their first title but also to achieve redemption by winning a trophy in front of one hundred thousand spectators. So tighten your seatbelt, as we might be in for "one last dance" from one of the all-time greats.

Virat Kohli 'Absolutely Gutted' After Stampede Kills 11 During RCB Victory Celebrations
Last Updated: RCB Parade Stampede News: Virat Kohli was part of the RCB's IPL victory celebrations when a stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium resulted in the death of 11 people. RCB Parade Stampede News: The Bengaluru stampede that caused the death of 11 people outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday has resulted in an outpouring of grief with India cricketer Virat Kohli 'absolutely gutted". Thousands had gathered outside the cricket stadium to catch a glimpse of Royal Challengers Bengaluru cricketers who later arrived at the venue as part of their first ever IPL title celebrations. The chaos unfolded after a massive crowd gathered outside the stadium and at the Vidhana Soudha – nearly triple of what was initially estimated. As per a senior police officer, the incident happened because the public didn't pay heed o their advisories. 'People did not heed our advisories or the repeated public announcements asking them to disperse. They were determined to reach the venue no matter what," the official said on condition of anonymity to News18. Taking to social media, Kohli wrote, 'At a loss for words. Absolutely gutted" while resharing an official statement from his IPL franchise RCB. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased while slamming the organisers of the event. 'It is very unfortunate. This is a negative side of popularity. People are crazy for cricketers. The organisers should have planned it better. My deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. I wish early recovery of the injured," Saikia told news agency PTI. 'When one organises a victory celebration of this magnitude, proper precautions, safety and security measures need to be taken. There have been some lapses somewhere. After such a glorious ending to the IPL, this has been an anti-climax," he added. The RCB squad arrived in Bengaluru on Wednesday morning before heading to Vidhana Soudha where they were felicitated by Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar. They then headed to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to continue their victory celebrations where fans had gathered to witness a musical performance before the players including RCB captain Rajat Patidar and Kohli delivered speeches. Siddaramaiah sacks political secretary over Bengaluru stampede: Who is K Govindaraju?
With the Congress government in Karnataka facing the heat following the stampede in Bengaluru on Wednesday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah sacked his political secretary K Govindaraju on Friday. The close aide of the CM became the first Cabinet-rank official to be sacked in the aftermath of the stampede that occurred outside the Chinnaswamy stadium during the IPL victory celebrations of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, leaving 11 people dead. Govindaraju, currently an MLC, conceived the idea of a victory parade and celebration at the Vidhana Soudha, the state legislature, despite the Bengaluru City Police denying permission for the event, according to multiple sources in the government and the police. 'He reportedly liaised between the state government, KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association) and RCB even though the police denied permission,' a source said, adding that the police, at a certain point, were kept in the dark about the communications happening between the KSCA and the state government. Sources in the Congress alleged that Govindaraju pushed the idea of a large-scale celebration as he aspired to contest the KSCA polls. Labelled the de facto 'sports minister' by a section of state Congress leaders, Govindaraju is viewed as a 'troubleshooter who operates behind the scenes'. In the last two decades, he has always occupied important positions whenever the Congress is at the helm of affairs. He has been president of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia, the Basketball Federation of India, and the Karnataka Olympic Association. Govindaraju has denied all the allegations and told the media on Friday that he was not involved with the RCB and 'never contacted by the KSCA'. Claiming that he was disturbed by the sequence of events, he told The Indian Express, 'It has happened over a minor issue and nothing big. I will speak to you next week.' Hailing from a family of bureaucrats from Kolar, sources said Govindaraju had access to the corridors of power as his elder brother is an IAS officer promoted from the state services. A senior Congress leader credited Govindaraju's 'entreprising behaviour and never-say-no attitude' for his rise in the echelons of power. 'He first came into contact with state Minister K J George and then with (former CM) S M Krishna. He is seen as a man who caters to the needs of powerful politicians,' a leader said. Govindaraju also had a stint in electoral politics when he made his Assembly poll debut from the Shivajinagar seat in 1999. But he lost the election. He continued to remain a part of the state power circles and was elected MLC in 2012. He also served as Siddaramaiah's parliamentary secretary between 2015 and 2018. Seen in Congress circles as the party's 'fundraiser', Govindaraju found himself in the centre of a controversy in 2017 after Income Tax officials recovered a diary from him with details of payments worth Rs 600 crore allegedly made to senior Congress leaders.
