Shah Rukh Khan worked 36 hours straight on Circus, reveals Renuka Shahane; recalls his key advice to her: ‘If the director asks you to jump, you jump'
Before he became Bollywood's Baadshah, Shah Rukh Khan was a popular television star, having won many hearts with his performance in shows like Fauji, Dil Dariya, Doosra Keval, Circus and Idiot. Interestingly, Circus – created by Aziz Mirza and directed by Aziz and Kundan Shah – also featured several other exceptional talents, including director Ashutosh Gowariker and actors Makrand Deshpande, Renuka Shahane and Sameer Khakhar. Recently, actor Renuka Shahane took a trip down memory lane and shared a piece of advice Shah Rukh Khan once gave her, along with Ashutosh Gowariker's guidance on how to put that advice into practice.
When asked what the best or worst advice she ever received from a colleague was, Renuka told Filmfare, 'My character, Maria, had a fear of heights, and so did I in real life. Hence, I was really scared while doing some of my scenes, particularly the ones featuring me getting on the trapeze. We all belong to the same age group, and, at that time, Shah Rukh wasn't a film star. He was already a television star, though. So, after pack-up, we all used to discuss things.'

'I was really scared, especially because I had to shoot with Kundan. Then, Shah Rukh came up to me and said, 'Listen, you are an actor. If the director tells you this is a well and asks you to jump, you jump. You shouldn't think about your fear of heights and all.' He actually works like that. His attitude toward work is like that. I've seen him work for 36 hours straight. We had two units on Circus — one managed by Kundan and the other by Aziz — and SRK was in practically every frame of the show. So, I have seen him shooting for 36 hours at a stretch. Yet, not a single wrinkle appeared on his face. He never complained about anything either,' she recalled.
Renuka continued, 'Ashutosh Gowariker, on the other hand, told me, 'If the director asks you to jump, you say, 'first, you jump and show me.' But the professionalism SRK was talking about was, don't overthink or question these things. It's the director's vision, and as an actor, you have to fulfill it. His words got me thinking. One can be mollycoddling of oneself, and we need to stretch ourselves.'

Housefull 5 Director Recalls Shah Rukh Khan's Advice: '99 Per Cent Of Your Job Is...'
Last Updated: Tarun Mansukhani recalled Shah Rukh Khan's behaviour on sets. Director Tarun Mansukhani is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film, Housefull 5. The film features 19 celebrated actors coming together for a comedy-thriller. However, one actor whose advice Tarun follows as a rule of thumb is Shah Rukh Khan. In a recent chat with Galatta India, Tarun recalled Shah Rukh's golden advice. Tarun said, 'I remember just before starting Dostana, he told me, 'What you think is direction, like, putting the camera here, or setting the shot, is just 1% of filmmaking, 99% of your job is managing people.'" Tarun has worked with Shah Rukh Khan as an assistant and associate director on films such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006). 'I've seen him picking up chairs and helping wrap up shoots quickly when rain was approaching. He'd become like an assistant director just to get things done efficiently. He is so much a part of the crew that you will never feel that he is Shah Rukh Khan. He is always cracking jokes, and most importantly, he constantly teaches you," Tarun said. Meanwhile, as for Housefull 5, the film will reportedly be the most expensive comedy film of Indian cinema. With 19 A-list celebrities, a whopping budget and the tag of a successful franchise, all eyes are on Housefull 5 to 'revive' Indian cinema. As per Pinkvilla's sources, 'From a star-cast of 19 acclaimed actors to the logistical challenges of shooting at real locations with a massive ensemble, Housefull 5 was among the most difficult films to set up for Sajid Nadiadwala. He has made a lavish 'Killer Comedy' for the audience, without compromising on the costs." The report mentions that Housefull 5 is being made on a budget of Rs 225 crore (Excluding PnA). If the report is to be believed, Housefull 5 is the most expensive comedy film in Indian cinema, surpassing the budgets of films like Housefull 4 and Golmaal Again. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Housefull 5 features a star-studded cast including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Dino Morea, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Chitrangada Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Soundarya Sharma, Chunky Pandey and Johnny Lever among others.

‘Shah Rukh Khan used to pick up chairs and help the crew wrap shoots,' says Housefull 5 director Tarun Mansukhani
Filmmaker Tarun Mansukhani and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan share a long-standing association that dates back to the early days of Tarun's career. As an assistant and associate director, Tarun worked closely with Shah Rukh on several iconic films, including Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Naa Ho, and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. In a recent interview with Galatta India, the Dostana director looked back on those formative years, fondly recalling SRK's humility on set. 'I've seen him picking up chairs and helping wrap up shoots quickly when rain was approaching. He'd become like an assistant director just to get things done efficiently. He is so much a part of the crew that you will never feel that he is Shah Rukh Khan. He is always cracking jokes, and most importantly, he constantly teaches you,' Tarun said. According to Tarun Mansukhani, one of the most important lessons he learned about filmmaking came from Shah Rukh Khan himself. 'I remember just before starting Dostana he told me, 'What you think is direction, like, putting the camera here, or setting the shot is just 1% of filmmaking, 99% of your job is managing people.'' Tarun says this insight has stayed with him and continues to shape his approach to filmmaking. The film features a star-studded ensemble cast and is generating buzz for its innovative format as it will reportedly feature two different climaxes. Departing from the franchise's usual tone, the fifth edition is described not only as a comedy but also a murder mystery, earning it the label of a 'killer comedy.' Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan has begun shooting for his next project, King, directed by Siddharth Anand. The film reportedly boasts a powerhouse cast including Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaideep Ahlawat, Rani Mukerji, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Abhay Verma, and Arshad Warsi.
