Second double murder within 24 hours stuns police
Patna: In a chilling repeat of violence, two youths were found shot dead in Patna district on Tuesday morning, marking the second double murder in the city within 24 hours. The incident has heightened fears and raised serious concerns about law enforcement in the state capital.
The bullet-ridden bodies of the victims were found by villagers along the Majahuli-Singhada road under the jurisdiction of Bikram police station. The villagers, who were out tending to their farmland, immediately informed the local police, who rushed to the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.
Police recovered 13 spent cartridges, clothing and a motorcycle from the spot. The victims were identified as Sonu Kumar and Raushan Kumar, both residents of the same locality under Bikram police station.
"Prima facie, it appears both were shot dead. We are investigating the case from all angles," said Patna SSP Awakash Kumar. He added that one of the victims, Sonu Kumar, was allegedly involved in the 2023 murder of a local chowkidar (village watchman). "We are probing whether the killings are connected to that incident," the SSP said, adding that the background of the second victim is also being examined.
Paliganj SDPO Umeshwar Choudhary said police were conducting raids to arrest the absconding suspects.

Gurgaon: In three years, 102 claims have been filed by families or victims of hit-and-run accidents, of which compensation has been disbursed for only two of them. Two cases are in the final stages of processing, and the remaining – 98 – are still being investigated by police. This slow pace of resolution has left families of accident victims in the lurch, with some waiting for years after they applied for aid under the 2022 Hit-and-Run Motor Accident Compensation scheme. The scheme, which falls under Section 161 of the Motor Vehicles Act , came into effect from April 1, 2022. It offers Rs 2 lakh as compensation in cases of fatalities, and Rs 50,000 for serious injuries. The scheme is only applicable for hit-and-run accidents, in which police have not been able to identify the errant driver or vehicle. Sunita, a city resident whose husband died in a hit-and-run accident on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway this year, told TOI she has been waiting for compensation for months. Her husband was the only earning member of the family. "My husband was returning home after work on a cycle when he was hit by an unknown vehicle. The tribunal, after hearing both sides, determines the amount of compensation that may be paid to accident victims or their families. In many cases, the company that insured the errant driver's vehicle is asked to provide compensation.

Two trailers collide on highway, truck driver dies
Kanpur: A truck driver died, and his attendant was critically injured after an iron girder from another truck penetrated the driver's chest on the Kanpur-Fatehpur-Prayagraj highway in the Maharajpur area on Wednesday. The incident took place in front of the Maharajpur police station when two trailers carrying iron girders collided. The impact caused the girders from the front trailer to breach the rear vehicle's cabin, fatally wounding the driver. Police and locals spent approximately two hours using a backhoe loader and crane to recover the driver's body. The seriously injured helper was sent to hospital in critical condition. The collision resulted in a two-kilometre traffic jam on the Kanpur-Fatehpur-Prayagraj lane, lasting over an hour. Vehicles formed lengthy queues, leaving travellers uncomfortable in the intense heat. Traffic flow resumed after the damaged vehicles were shifted to the roadside. 8 held for Semaglutide theft from Dr Reddy's lab; 2 cr drug seized
Srikakulam: The JR Puram police in Srikakulam district have arrested a gang of eight individuals, including four employees of Dr Reddy's Laboratories, in connection with the theft of about 460 grams of Semaglutide (GLP-1), a patented anti-diabetic drug worth over ₹2 crore. The drug was stolen from the company's warehouse at Pydibheemavaram for sale in the black market. Those arrested include Dr Reddy's chemists Dronadulu Suresh (31), N Appala Naidu (28), and Gollapalli Kantarao (35); warehouse staffer G V Raghavendra (33); and four others with pharma backgrounds in Hyderabad: G Suresh Reddy (40), A Tirupati (32), K Balakrishna (33), and B Naveen Kumar (33). The police said Semaglutide is an anti-diabetic medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and an anti-obesity medication used for long-term weight management. It is a peptide similar to the hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), modified with a side can be administered by subcutaneous injection or taken orally. Basically it was the patent product of Dr Reddy's Laboratories and the product was meant for export to foreign countries. However, he also failed to trade the stolen chemical that led to disputes among the gang. When Raghavendra asked Suresh Reddy to return the drug, he cheated them by giving fake Semaglutide powder. The police nabbed all the eight persons in connection with the case and recovered around 440 gram of stolen Semaglutide powder and 460 gms of fake Semaglutide powder from them. Police said during the audit, staff observed that 3.38 kg of Palladium Acetate, valued at over 60 lakh and stored at the warehouse within the production unit of Dr Reddy's Lab, had been stolen in May this year. Palladium acetate, or palladium(II) acetate, is a chemical is a red-brown solid and is widely used as a catalyst in various organic reactions, particularly cross coupling reactions like Suzuki and Heck reactions. The police said the same gang was involved in the case and the investigation is on to recover the stolen chemical from them.
