The development of this proprietary genetic marker technology, which is now in use in Aurora's breeding program, is set to produce powdery mildew resistant cultivars that will be explored for commercial launch this year.

In the peer reviewed research lead by Jose Celedon , Principal Scientist of Breeding and Genetics at Aurora, in collaboration with researchers at The University of British Columbia , it is noted that, "breeding genetic resistance to economically important crop diseases is the most sustainable strategy for disease management and enhancing agricultural and horticultural productivity, particularly where the application of synthetic pesticides is prohibited" (Seifi, et al.) 1. The discovery of PM2 will further the company's mission to enhance the biosecurity of production facilities, reduce production costs, and improve product quality.

Health officials hope innovators can help solve pressing issues

Article content Article content 'We have all seen the use of emergency and how some patients are waiting forever to be seen. We have that same problem in ICU (the intensive care unit) trying to get our patients out. We have the same problem in the OR (operating rooms at post-anesthesia care units where patients go after surgery).' Article content Finding an efficient way to optimize patient flow, he said, would make a big difference to wait times and use of space at the hospital. Article content Kyeremanteng noted that Toronto's Humber River Health is known for doing just that. Article content It has created what has been called a NASA-style 'mission control' room that uses real-time information and AI to improve patient flow and reduce wait times throughout the hospital, saving the equivalent of dozens of hospital beds that would otherwise be occupied, according to the hospital. Article content Article content A similar use of technology to solve challenges at The Ottawa Hospital and elsewhere 'could be such an opportunity,' he said.
