Sabrina Carpenter has explained the meaning behind her latest single 'Manchild,' after fans speculated it could be about her ex, Barry Keoghan.
The Espresso songstress dropped her latest single on Friday, with many believing the lyrics may be revealing some home truths about her Irish former flame.
Fans were convinced that she would be discussing her romance with the Irish actor in her new track, with many taking to the comments of the teaser clip on social media to share their theories. However, now the pop star has settled the debate, revealing the true timeline behind the track.
In a post shared on Instagram today, Sabrina penned: 'I wrote Manchild on a random Tuesday with Amy and Jack not too long after finishing Short n' Sweet, and it ended up being the best random Tuesday of my life.'
Fans may remember that Sabrina was still happily dating Barry at this time, proving the track couldn't possibly be about him.
The singer continued: 'Not only was it so fun to write, but this song became to me something I can look back on that will score the mental montage to the very confusing and fun young adult years of life.'
Well, that puts that one to bed it seems!
The pair called time on their relationship earlier in the year after around 12 months of dating. Earlier this year, Barry sparked speculation that he was back with the Espresso singer after appearing at Paris Fashion Week with a heart-shaped brooch on his jacket.
The brooch, which was adorned with silver gems, had a striking resemblance to Sabrina's memorable stage outfits during her recent tour.
