Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrives in Kerala ahead of Nilambur bypoll
Calicut (Kerala) [India], June 14 (ANI): Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrived at the Calicut airport on Friday. Upon her arrival, she was welcomed by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Sunny Joseph and other senior leaders of the party's state unit.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's visit is very crucial ahead of the Nilambur assembly constituency bypoll. The voting for the by-election will be held on June 19, whereas the results will be declared on June 23.
The elections were necessitated after the resignation of PV Anvar, an LDF-backed MLA, who stepped down in January after making several allegations against the Left government in the state. However, Anvar is going to contest the elections under the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) banner.
Anvar will be going up against National Democratic Alliance candidate Michael George. Meanwhile, UDF (United Democratic Front) have fielded Aryadan Shoukath as their candidate in the Nilambur by-election.
The byelection has political significance as it is a precursor to next year's state assembly election and will test the popularity of the current government led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Earlier on June 12, BJP leader V Muraleedharan hit out at the Congress and CPI-M ahead of the Nilambur assembly by-polls, BJP leader and alleged that instead of raising common issues, both parties are trying to get votes from pro-terrorists and communal organisations.
He highlighted that the election became necessary due to the resignation of the MLA, who had said that the Kerala CM is 'protecting' the underground elements and smugglers.

Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday called on the Telugu film industry to draft a vision document that would contribute to Telangana's goal of becoming a $3 trillion economy by 2047. Speaking at the Telangana Gaddar Film Awards 2025 function in Hyderabad, Revanth said that just like the govt is preparing sectoral plans for IT, pharma, and other industries, the film industry too will have a dedicated chapter in the state's upcoming Vision 2027 document. He added that no film awards were given over the past 14 years, but the Telangana govt has now revived them, honouring filmmakers and artistes for every year since the formation of the state in 2014. Addressing the new generation of actors, Revanth urged stars like Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh Babu, and Allu Arjun to take a leadership role in advancing the industry's contribution to the state's economic vision. 'When India marks 100 years of independence in 2047, Telangana should also celebrate by achieving this ambitious milestone,' he said. Revanth emphasised that Telangana's competition is not with other Indian cities like Amaravati or Mumbai, but with global economic powerhouses such as New York, Tokyo, and Seoul. 'Regardless of my role in politics or govt, I am committed to achieving our $3 trillion goal,' he asserted. Paying tribute to revolutionary balladeer Gaddar, in whose name the film awards are instituted, the CM said, 'Gaddar inspired the movement for a separate Telangana. He remains a guiding force for us all.' On the occasion, the CM announced a govt contribution of Rs 3 crore to the Gaddar Foundation. Gaddar's son, Surya Kiran, thanked the govt and said the funds would help preserve Gaddar's memory and ideals. State government is committed to developing Kalyana Karnataka, says Chief Minister
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has promised that the Kalyan Karnataka region will be developed in all sectors, as the government has, so far, released ₹13,000 crore to the Kalyana Karnataka Regional Development Board (KKRDB) from 2023 to date and will continue releasing the annual grant. He was speaking after the laying of foundation stone for various development works under the 'Arogya Avishkara' project at a cost of ₹440.63 crore under the Kalyana Karnataka Regional Board in Yadgir on Saturday. Construction of 12 primary health centres (PHC), six community health centres (CHC), and one urban health centre and upgradation of 16 CHCs from 30 to 50 beds, upgradation of three taluk health centres (THC) from 100 to 150 beds, upgradation of two CHCs from 30 to 100 beds, and upgradation of one PHC to a 100-bed CHC are involved in the project. Mr. Siddaramaiah said that the D.M. Nanjundappa committee report says that the KK region is the most backward area in the State. However, the government has formed the Govinda Rao committee to study the actual facts on regional imbalances in the region, and the said committee will soon submit its report, and based on the report, more funds will be released to those taluks which remain backward. 'Health, education, infrastructure, and employment sectors are primarily considered to be developed. Thus, these sectors will be developed under 'Shikshana Avishkara', 'Arogya Avishkara', and 'Kalyan Patha' programmes,' he said, and added that Ajay Singh, chairman of KKRDB, should spend the grant released to the board effectively. Expressing concern about the deaths of mothers and infants, the State government is committed to taking necessary action to improve the health sector with new programmes. The Chief Minister said that the government delivered what it had promised and claimed that 242 promises out of 593 that were made before the election were fulfilled so far. Praising the late Kollur Mallappa, who was honourably called Hyderabad Karnataka Gandhi, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that the required land for constructing his memorial was granted and added that he advised Minister for Small Scale Industries Sharanabasappa Darshanapur to complete it in the next year. Mr. Ajay Singh said that the board is ready to spend the grant released by the state government. Mr. Darshanapur praised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for his efforts to implement Article 371 (J) that provides special status to the region and said that many development works, especially guarantee schemes, have been implemented after Congress came to power. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said that a Cabinet meeting at Kalaburagi has approved the sanction of ₹857 crore to improve the health sector in the region, of which the KKRBD would provide ₹350 crore, and the remaining amount will be provided by the Health Department.

Congress made 'historic blunder' letting Pakistan go nuclear: Assam CM Sarma
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday accused the Congress of committing a "historic blunder" by allowing Pakistan to become a nuclear state, alleging that India had the capability, intelligence and international support to launch a pre-emptive strike in the 1980s, but failed to act due to political hesitation. In a post on X, Sarma said: "At a time when nations today act decisively to neutralise nuclear threats, India's tragic inaction during the 1980s remains a cautionary tale of what could have been-and what wasn't. RAW had solid intelligence confirming Pakistan's uranium enrichment activities at the Kahuta facility." He added: "Israel offered to help-from actionable intel to joint strike planning. Jamnagar Air Base was shortlisted as a potential launchpad. The Indian military gave full backing to a pre-emptive airstrike on Kahuta. India had the capability and consensus to eliminate the threat before it became reality." Sarma went on to say: "Yet at the last minute: Indira Gandhi hesitated, fearing international fallout. Rajiv Gandhi shelved the plan, prioritising diplomacy over deterrence under foreign pressure." Sarma also targeted the CPM, saying: "To this day, Pakistan uses nuclear blackmail to deter international action and legitimise its rogue behaviour. Shockingly, in 2024, key INDIA bloc ally CPM promised in its manifesto to roll back India's nuclear deterrent if brought to power." Live Events
