State government is committed to developing Kalyana Karnataka, says Chief Minister
He was speaking after the laying of foundation stone for various development works under the 'Arogya Avishkara' project at a cost of ₹440.63 crore under the Kalyana Karnataka Regional Board in Yadgir on Saturday.
Construction of 12 primary health centres (PHC), six community health centres (CHC), and one urban health centre and upgradation of 16 CHCs from 30 to 50 beds, upgradation of three taluk health centres (THC) from 100 to 150 beds, upgradation of two CHCs from 30 to 100 beds, and upgradation of one PHC to a 100-bed CHC are involved in the project.
Mr. Siddaramaiah said that the D.M. Nanjundappa committee report says that the KK region is the most backward area in the State. However, the government has formed the Govinda Rao committee to study the actual facts on regional imbalances in the region, and the said committee will soon submit its report, and based on the report, more funds will be released to those taluks which remain backward.
'Health, education, infrastructure, and employment sectors are primarily considered to be developed. Thus, these sectors will be developed under 'Shikshana Avishkara', 'Arogya Avishkara', and 'Kalyan Patha' programmes,' he said, and added that Ajay Singh, chairman of KKRDB, should spend the grant released to the board effectively.
Expressing concern about the deaths of mothers and infants, the State government is committed to taking necessary action to improve the health sector with new programmes.
The Chief Minister said that the government delivered what it had promised and claimed that 242 promises out of 593 that were made before the election were fulfilled so far.
Praising the late Kollur Mallappa, who was honourably called Hyderabad Karnataka Gandhi, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that the required land for constructing his memorial was granted and added that he advised Minister for Small Scale Industries Sharanabasappa Darshanapur to complete it in the next year.
Mr. Ajay Singh said that the board is ready to spend the grant released by the state government.
Mr. Darshanapur praised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for his efforts to implement Article 371 (J) that provides special status to the region and said that many development works, especially guarantee schemes, have been implemented after Congress came to power.
Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said that a Cabinet meeting at Kalaburagi has approved the sanction of ₹857 crore to improve the health sector in the region, of which the KKRBD would provide ₹350 crore, and the remaining amount will be provided by the Health Department.

Confederation urges CM to form Cabinet sub-committee to review Nagamohan Das Commission report
Confederation of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes' Organisations on Thursday urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to form a sub-committee of the State Cabinet to review in detail the report submitted by the H.N. Nagamohan Das Commission, which was constituted to implement internal reservation among the State's 101 Scheduled Castes. Addressing press persons here, its president Lolaksha said that the confederation urges the Chief Minister to take a decision on forming the sub-committee in the special Cabinet meeting scheduled for Saturday. The sub-committee should be headed by a senior Minister who does not belong to a Scheduled Caste, but it should include all the Ministers belonging to the Scheduled Castes. 'The sub-committee should hear/receive the views and representations of the Scheduled Castes' people/organisations over the report, and review its merits and demerits,' he said. The proposed internal reservation policy should be designed with sincere concern to empower the most vulnerable among the oppressed and deprived Scheduled Castes through special priority, and ensure justice in every way without adopting any discriminatory policy on the basis of left or right leanings, Mr. Lolaksha said. Since any decision to be taken by the government on the report will have a significant impact on the lives and future of 1.07 crore people belonging to 27,24,768 Scheduled Caste families, the Chief Minister and Ministers should not take any hasty decisions in this regard, the confederation said. The confederation also demanded that, immediately after the current session of the Legislature ends, the sub-committee should either visit all districts or at least hold meetings in Kalaburgi, Belagavi, Mangaluru, Mysuru, and Bengaluru, to receive representations from Scheduled Caste people/organisations and then make appropriate recommendations to the government in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution. Mr. Lolaksha said: 'In our memorandum submitted to the Commission on January 31, we had demanded a fresh survey for internal reservation in the State. However, before the survey even began on May 5, the chairperson of the Commission said that those who have converted to Christianity but still hold an SC certificate would be allowed to participate in the survey. The chairperson also justified the participation of those registered under names such as Adi Dravida and Adi Karnataka, despite their caste names not being listed under the Scheduled Castes. The survey was conducted without including a 'religion' column, allowed 3,22,049 people registered as Beda Jangam and Budga Jangam to participate, but considered only 1,44,387 of them.' 'These actions, in data collection and analysis, go against the spirit and commitment of the Constitution, create hostility and division among castes, and classify communities in an unscientific manner, thereby making recommendations to the government. For these reasons, a thorough review of this report is absolutely necessary,' Mr. Lolaksha said.

Got caught up in sharp contests among political parties: ECI to Supreme Court
The Election Commission of India (ECI) told the Supreme Court on Thursday (August 14, 2025) that it got 'caught up' in the 'sharp contests' among political parties. Appearing before a Bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi, senior advocate Rakesh Dwivedi, for the ECI, pointed to the allegations raised against it about EVMs, and now the portrayal of the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar as 'citizenship screening'. 'Today is a time of sharp political contest. The ECI is caught up in this sharp contest between political parties,' Mr. Dwivedi submitted. Justice Kant referred to the situation as 'political hostility'. Mr. Dwivedi opened his counter-submissions to the SIR challenge by reminiscing how India had lived in a 'euphoric state' after Independence. During the time of the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, the Congress had held 'complete sway'. From the late 1960s, Mr. Dwivedi said the political struggles and break-ups had emerged. 'The Congress split up, the Emergency, these were times when political contest came out sharply in the open,' he submitted: He then referred to the era of Chief Election Commissioner T.N. Seshan. 'He did many good things, but overstepped too,' Mr. Dwivedi said. He crossed over to the coalition governments and concluded with the EC bearing the brunt of the current political contest among parties. 'Political parties have the necessity to project certain things as realities in the public domain. We understand. We restrain ourselves,' Mr. Dwivedi said He referred to how the petitioners in the Bihar SIR case depict Bihar as living in a dark age. 'It is a land of enlightenment,' Mr. Dwivedi remarked. However, Justice Kant intervened to note with a reality-check that there were 'populations in Bihar living in poverty too'.
