State government is committed to developing Kalyana Karnataka, says Chief Minister
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has promised that the Kalyan Karnataka region will be developed in all sectors, as the government has, so far, released ₹13,000 crore to the Kalyana Karnataka Regional Development Board (KKRDB) from 2023 to date and will continue releasing the annual grant.
He was speaking after the laying of foundation stone for various development works under the 'Arogya Avishkara' project at a cost of ₹440.63 crore under the Kalyana Karnataka Regional Board in Yadgir on Saturday.
Construction of 12 primary health centres (PHC), six community health centres (CHC), and one urban health centre and upgradation of 16 CHCs from 30 to 50 beds, upgradation of three taluk health centres (THC) from 100 to 150 beds, upgradation of two CHCs from 30 to 100 beds, and upgradation of one PHC to a 100-bed CHC are involved in the project.
Mr. Siddaramaiah said that the D.M. Nanjundappa committee report says that the KK region is the most backward area in the State. However, the government has formed the Govinda Rao committee to study the actual facts on regional imbalances in the region, and the said committee will soon submit its report, and based on the report, more funds will be released to those taluks which remain backward.
'Health, education, infrastructure, and employment sectors are primarily considered to be developed. Thus, these sectors will be developed under 'Shikshana Avishkara', 'Arogya Avishkara', and 'Kalyan Patha' programmes,' he said, and added that Ajay Singh, chairman of KKRDB, should spend the grant released to the board effectively.
Expressing concern about the deaths of mothers and infants, the State government is committed to taking necessary action to improve the health sector with new programmes.
The Chief Minister said that the government delivered what it had promised and claimed that 242 promises out of 593 that were made before the election were fulfilled so far.
Praising the late Kollur Mallappa, who was honourably called Hyderabad Karnataka Gandhi, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that the required land for constructing his memorial was granted and added that he advised Minister for Small Scale Industries Sharanabasappa Darshanapur to complete it in the next year.
Mr. Ajay Singh said that the board is ready to spend the grant released by the state government.
Mr. Darshanapur praised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for his efforts to implement Article 371 (J) that provides special status to the region and said that many development works, especially guarantee schemes, have been implemented after Congress came to power.
Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said that a Cabinet meeting at Kalaburagi has approved the sanction of ₹857 crore to improve the health sector in the region, of which the KKRBD would provide ₹350 crore, and the remaining amount will be provided by the Health Department.

Congress accuses Israel of attacking Iran's ‘sovereignty', says it ‘only deepens instability'
The principal opposition party expressed its stance a day after the BJP-led Union government distanced itself from a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) statement that sharply criticised Israeli actions against Iran. New Delhi: The Congress Sunday accused Israel of violating Iran's sovereignty, stating that the killings of top Iranian military generals and nuclear scientists represent a dangerous escalation with 'grave regional and global consequences'. 'The Indian National Congress unequivocally condemns Israel's recent bombings and targeted assassinations on Iranian soil, which represent a dangerous escalation with grave regional and global consequences. This attack on Iran's sovereignty and encroachment of its rights, whether through aerial strikes or covert killings, only deepens instability and sows the seeds of further conflict,' the Congress said in a statement. 'The Congress party firmly believes that diplomacy, dialogue, and international cooperation, and not violence, are the only legitimate and sustainable path forward. Hostilities must cease immediately. Continued military brinkmanship risks plunging an already fragile region into wider war, with catastrophic human and economic fallout,' it added. The party had Saturday questioned the Centre's move to distance itself from the SCO statement that termed Israel's 'aggressive actions' in Iran, including targeting of energy and transport infrastructure, 'a gross violation of international law and the United Nations Charter'. In response, the Ministry of External Affairs said that India did not participate in the discussions at the SCO on the statement. The MEA added that New Delhi has already urged that channels of dialogue and diplomacy be utilised to work towards de-escalation. 'The External Affairs Minister, too, discussed this matter with his Iranian counterpart yesterday and conveyed the deep concern of the international community at the turn of events. He also urged the avoidance of any escalatory steps and an early return to diplomacy,' stated the MEA. Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh said that the MEA's statement suggested that India has become an 'abject apologist' for Israel. 'What does this MEA statement really mean? It seems to suggest that Israel can attack Iran but that Iran should exercise restraint and not climb the escalatory ladder. Have we been reduced to being an abject apologist for Israel? We cannot even condemn Israel's attacks on and targeted assassinations in Iran?' Ramesh posted on X on Saturday. However, the party's formal statement issued Sunday had no reference to the SCO issue. While condemning Israeli action, the Congress also acknowledged India's strategic ties with Israel in recent decades. 'India has long-standing civilisational ties with Iran and, in recent decades, has developed strategic relations with Israel. This unique position gives our country the moral responsibility and the diplomatic leverage to act as a bridge for de-escalation and peace. 'With lakhs of Indian citizens living and working across West Asia, peace in the region is a vital national interest apart from being a geopolitical concern. India must speak clearly, act responsibly, and use every diplomatic channel available to defuse tensions and promote a return to dialogue,' it said. On Saturday, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had called Israel's attack on Iran as a violation of its sovereignty and a complete contravention of all international norms. The party was also highly critical of India's abstention from a United Nations General Assembly resolution demanding a ceasefire in Gaza. It called the move an act of 'staggering moral cowardice', and asked if the Centre had abandoned late former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's 'principled stand' on Palestine. Lucknow: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday that through the anti-terror Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent a strong message across the world that the bloodshed of Indians will invite punishment. Speaking after handing over appointment letters to 60,244 Uttar Pradesh Police constables, including 12,048 women, HM Shah said, "I congratulate our armed forces for precision strikes that demolished the terror hubs." He also compared PM Modi's strong response to terror strikes with the Congress era, which witnessed frequent attacks but no response. Hailing the current era of 'Sashakt Bharat', HM Shah highlighted the strides made by the nation in reducing poverty, space technology, education, aviation, opportunities for the youth, computer-based skilling and urban mobility through Metro networks. HM Shah said that under PM Modi, even internal security in the country has improved. "Earlier, 11 districts were affected by Maoism, but today Left Wing Extremism is present only in three districts," he said. "Mark my words, Maoism will be eradicated from the country by March 21, 2026," he said. Highlighting the economy's growth under PM Modi, HM Shah said, "By 2027, the country will become the third largest economy. When PM Modi took charge, our economy was the 11 largest." HM Shah also highlighted PM Modi's vision for impartial social upliftment and said in the last 11 years, 25 crore people have emerged from poverty, crores of people have got cooking gas cylinders, free ration, free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh, and farmers have started getting Rs 6,000 every year. Targeting the previous Samajwadi Party-led government in the state, the Home Minister said that before 2017, the law and order situation in UP was deteriorating steadily, but under the BJP government led by Yogi Adityanath, the state police has returned to the track of improvement and revival. Today, under CM Adityanath, goons don't call the shots and criminals don't enjoy any VIP treatment, he said, referring to the alleged lawlessness in the state under the previous Samajwadi Party government. Pointing to the hurdles created by the SP government in police reforms, he said, "During the first three years of PM Modi's government, the state police did not benefit from efforts for improvement." HM Shah also hit out at the SP government for corruption in recruitment, saying the current hiring of 60,244 constables in UP Police has been done without any 'Kharchi-Parchi' and only on the basis of merit. "Earlier, recruitments used to take place on a caste basis, but not anymore. The current hiring has been done transparently," he said, expressing satisfaction over the appointment of 12,048 women as constables.
