How many new trains has Centre introduced to improve regional connectivity in last one year?

Indian Railways new trains: Indian Railways (IR) is considered as the backbone of the national economy. In recent years, it has undertaken several initiatives to enhance connectivity, including the introduction of new trains, track doubling and expansion, and the construction of Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs). Apart from these, the national transporter is also actively redeveloping stations across the country under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).
Since the railway network spans across state boundaries, train services are introduced based on operational requirements across various regions. This raise an interesting question: how many new trains have been introduced in the past year?
The question surfaced after Rajya Sabha MP Medha Vishram Kulkarni asked Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for details on the number of new trains launched over the last year. She also sought information on how many trains pass through Maharashtra, particularly Pune city.
In response, Vaishnaw on Friday (July 25, 2025) informed that Indian Railways introduced a total of 182 new train services during the period 2024–25 and 2025–26 (up to June 2025). With the launch of these new trains, the regional connectivity has improved further.
'To cater to the needs of passengers, IR, during 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 (upto June,2025 ) have introduced 182 train services of which the following 20 train services, on originating/Terminating basis, are catering to the needs of stations located in the State of Maharashtra…,' the minister added.
The minister also stated that a new train will be introduced between Pune and Rewa. He also stated that CSMT-Jalna Vande Bharat train will be extended.
'…it has also been decided to introduce a new train between Pune and Rewa [with commercial stoppages inter alia at Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Akola, Bhusaval, Manmad, Kopargaon, Ahmednagar, Daund] and to extend 20705/20706 Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj (T) – Jalna Vande Bharat Express (six days a week) upto Hazur Sahib Nanded,' he said.
The Railway Minister also noted that Pune, Nasik and Aurangabad are presently being served by 291, 155 and 62 train services, respectively. 'Moreover, introduction of new train services is an ongoing process on Indian Railways subject to traffic justification, operational feasibility, resource availability, etc,' Vaishnaw added.

Oppn adamant on demand over electoral roll revision debate, Rajya Sabha adjourned till 2 pm

New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned until 2 p.m. on Tuesday following vocal protests and demands for immediate discussion on several contentious issues, including Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh announced the receipt of 24 notices under Rule 267, most of which pertained to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls undertaken in Bihar. The notices were submitted by members, including Ranjeet Ranjan, Shaktisinh Gohil, Syed Nasir Hussain, Rajani Ashokrao Patil, Akhilesh Prasad Singh, Rajiv Shukla and Randeep Singh Surjewala (all from Congress), Sandeep Kumar Pathak (AAP), Manoj Jha (RJD), and others. The Deputy Chairman also informed the House that under the same rules, additional notices were submitted by CPI(M) MP Rita Pratap Banerjee and Trinamool Congress MP Sagarika Ghosh, raising concerns over alleged discrimination against Bengali migrant workers in various states. A. Rahim (CPI-M), P. Santosh Kumar (CPI), and Josh K. Mani (Kerala Congress-M) sought a discussion on the "alleged and unjust" arrest of two nuns in Chhattisgarh. SP MP Ramjilal Suman demanded a debate on the "unprecedented and unexpected" resignation of the Rajya Sabha Chairman, while CPI(M) MP V. Sivadasan submitted a notice seeking deliberation on "India's trade agreement with the United Kingdom and its impact on the Indian economy". The Deputy Chairman informed the House that the notices did not conform to procedural requirements and were therefore declined. This led to sharp protests from the Opposition and disruption of proceedings. Amid the uproar, the Deputy Chairman urged members to honour their collective commitment to uphold the Parliamentary decorum, stating that Question Hour and Zero Hour had not been availed for several days due to repeated disruptions. The Deputy Chairman appealed to members to allow both segments to proceed uninterrupted. When the ruckus continued, he adjourned the House till 2 p.m. Earlier in the day, the House briefly turned its attention to a moment of national pride when the Deputy Chairman congratulated 19-year-old Divya Deshmukh for winning the FIDE Women's Chess World Cup. He described her achievement as a matter of great joy, noting that she had made the country proud by becoming India's first woman to win the title and the nation's 88th Grandmaster. Several parliamentary papers and committee reports were laid on the table. These included submissions from ministers Pankaj Choudhary, Anupriya Patel, Santanu Thakur, Harsh Malhotra, Ninubhai, and Bhupathi Raju Srinivas Verma. Shiv Sena-UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi tabled the 57th report of the Standing Committee on Communications in the 17th Lok Sabha, along with the seventh Action Taken Report concerning the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. BJP MP Ramji Bhai Harji Bhai Mokaria submitted reports from the Standing Committee on Consumer Affairs. BJP MP K. Lakshman laid reports from the Committee on Public Accounts, while party MP Iranna B Kadadi presented the 15th report related to the Ministry of Rural Development. Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Choudhary also placed an additional Standing Committee report before the House. An updated panel of Vice Chairpersons was announced. The House is scheduled to reconvene at 2 p.m., though tensions surrounding the Bihar electoral revision may continue to affect proceedings.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi's shameful silence in the face of Israel's relentless and devastating assault on the people of Gaza is deeply disappointing. It is the height of moral cowardice. The time has come for him to speak out clearly, boldly and forthrightly on behalf of the legacy that India has long represented," she said. (With inputs from PTI.) BJP leader Ram Kadam on Tuesday defended the government's handling of Operation Sindoor and criticised the Congress for what he called a dismissive attitude towards the military operation. "The entire Opposition has the right to deliberate in the parliamentary session and also raise questions. They can give positive suggestions to the government. Does Operation Sindoor look like a tamasha to the Congress? The terrorists who snatched the sindoor from our mothers and sisters, our Army entered their homes and eliminated them. This is a strong government running under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi," Kadam said. Congress MP Pramod Tiwari on Tuesday demanded answers from the Centre over the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi to directly address the issue in Parliament. "The entire country wants the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack to be punished. 140 crore people in the country have only one question - who is responsible for this? Is it the PM, Union Home Minister? Many questions are being raised. We want Modi ji to respond to these many questions," Tiwari said while speaking to news agency ANI. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Tuesday criticised Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's recent remarks on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), calling them a "serious admission" and accusing the BJP of abandoning its long-held position on reclaiming the territory. "Rajnath Singh yesterday said in Lok Sabha that our intention was not to take PoK. This is a very serious thing. The BJP had repeatedly stated in the past that it would take PoK. It is clear that this government does not want to fight with Pakistan; they don't want to make 'Akhand Bharat' and not take back territory illegally occupied by Pakistan. This statement should be condemned," Raut said while speaking to reporters. #WATCH | Shiv Sena (UBT ) MP Sanjay Raut says, "Rajnath Singh yesterday said in Lok Sabha that our intention was not to take PoK.
