Angry Fiancé Shreds Rs 32,000 Lehenga To Pieces In Thane Store After Being Denied Refund
A young man lost his temper when a bridal shop refused to give back money for a lehenga (wedding dress) that his fiancée did not want anymore. The outfit had cost Rs 32,300, and the store had said they would only give a credit note instead of returning the money.
The lehenga was bought on June 17, but later that same day, the bride-to-be, Meghna Makhija, told the shop she had changed her mind and didn't want it anymore. The store manager told her that she could use the amount as store credit within two months, according to the Times of India.
A month later, Meghna visited the shop again to see if she could exchange it, but a salesman told her that due to an ongoing stock clearance sale, she should return after some time.
Soon after, her fiancé, Sumit Sayani, stormed into the store with a knife. He got into an argument with the staff and demanded for full refund of that lehenga. When they refused, he lost his temper and slashed the lehenga to pieces right in the store with the knife, saying, 'I'll tear you apart like this if you don't return my money".
A young woman purchased a lehenga ghagra from a well-known showroom in Kalyan. Her friend demanded a refund, stating they did not want the lehenga ghagra and asked to buy different clothes instead. The act, which was caught on CCTV, shocked other shoppers, and the man also allegedly demanded Rs 3 lakh from the store and threatened to leave a bad Google review. The frightened shopkeeper lodged a complaint at the Bazarpeth police station.
Police arrested Sumit, but he was quickly granted bail. He admitted to the incident and told officers he acted out of anger, according to Surajsingh Gaund, senior inspector at Bazarpeth police station.

Stone mafias damage Dhunkapada's sacred ecology
Berhampur: The tranquil hills of Ganjam now resonate with the rumble of a brewing storm—not of nature, but of protest. Amid allegations of unchecked illegal stone mining and heritage devastation, a powerful united voice has emerged from the grassroots. Villagers of Dhunkapada in Ganjam district, led by Arati Devi, the former Sarpanch who revolutionised the panchayat system in Odisha, are raising their voice against illegal stone mining. Following an inquiry ordered by the State Revenue Minister into rampant stone mafia activities, a report was submitted by the district administration. But Arati alleged that the report was one-sided. Arati has accused the stone mafia of not only destroying the ecological sanctity of five surrounding hills, but also crippling a lifeline she once built—a Rs 25 lakh reservoir and canal system that irrigated the fields of over 500 farming families. This heritage system, she says, now lies choked. The flow of water from the reservoir to the agricultural fields has been diverted as the mafias have filled the canal with boulders to facilitate the movement of their trucks. The once-sacred Giri Gobardhan temple, revered by local farmers, teeters on collapse, she alleges. The local farmers used to offer flattened rice and jaggery to Lord Giri Gobardhan with a belief that there will be rain to facilitate farming. The national bird peacock is dying under the impact of illegal blasting. Arati and the villagers took up this issue with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at the Grievance Cell in Bhubaneswar. She demanded action within seven days or else she said they will stage an indefinite dharna at Raj Bhavan. Her anguish was palpable as she recounted ecological destruction such as illegal blasts, dying peacocks and poached blackbuck calves which were once protected in this landscape. 'This isn't just about stones,' Arati Devi said. 'It's about the soul of our land. About our water, our wildlife, our worship and our farmers' future,' she said. The question looms: Will the Chief Minister act decisively. Or will the silence of the hills deepen into despair? The fate of a community, its culture and its ecology hangs in the balance.

Man held for duping Patra of Rs 25L
Bhubaneswar: A man was arrested for allegedly duping Odisha minister Krushna Chandra Patra of Rs 25 lakh with a promise to provide him a land plot in Dhenkanal district, police said on Tuesday. The arrest was made on the basis of a written complaint filed by the State Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister at Dhenkanal Town Police Station on July 26, an officer said. 'We have arrested Niranjan Satpathy of Banasingh in Dhenkanal district for duping the minister of Rs 25 lakh and forwarded him to a local court,' Dhenkanal Town Police Station inspector-in-charge Pravat Sahu said. According to the police, Patra had given Rs 25 lakh as an advance to the accused in 2021 for purchasing a plot of land in Banasingh area. However, the accused did not provide the land plot to the minister, the officer said, citing the complaint. Satpathy, later, issued two cheques to Patra, but those cheques bounced, he said. 'The accused had also given a written statement to the minister with a promise to return his money. However, he did not honour the promise,' the IIC said. Speaking to mediapersons on Monday, Patra had said he paid the money as an advance to buy a plot four years ago, when he was serving as a director in a company. As the 'man neither provided a land parcel nor returned the money', Patra said he had lodged a complaint with the local police.

BCom student robs gold from uncle's house for trips with BF
BENGALURU: A BCom student and three others have been arrested by the Kothanur police for stealing over 1 kg of gold ornaments from her uncle's house to fund a lavish lifestyle with her boyfriend. The accused spent several lakhs of rupees on parties and trips, the police said. The accused are- Sachita, Yashwanth (her boyfriend and classmate), Tanush and Ramprakash (both are Yashwanth's friends). All of them are in their early 20s. In June first week, Sachita's uncle, B N Srinivas, filed a complaint stating that over 1 kg of gold ornaments kept in his house locker had been stolen. He initially suspected two domestic workers might be involved in the theft, but it was later found out that they were clean. It was found that Sachita was regularly visiting the house over the past six months before the crime came to light, which raised suspicion, the police said. The police further added that, during interrogation, Sachita confessed that large quantities of gold were kept in her uncle's house and she began stealing the ornaments in phases starting from January. She used to pass the ornaments to Yashwanth, and he then passed them to his friends Tanush and Ramprakash. The trio used to melt it and convert it into gold bars and sell them.
