Ord Valley Muster ends on a high note with Lime Cordiale

West Australian27-05-2025
After 10 days of art, food, laughter and first-class Aussie music, it's time to shake out the picnic blankets and fold up the camping chairs as the sun sets on another successful Boab Metals Ord Valley Muster.
The seminal cultural festival for the East Kimberley dry season wrapped up with an electric Kimberley Moon Experience concert on Saturday night headlined by Spotify chart-toppers Lime Cordiale, Thelma Plum and Aussie music legend Mark Seymour and his band The Undertow.
It seemed the biggest fans of the Muster were those on stage, with Oli Limebach from Lime Cordiale saying his trip to the East Kimberley had been epic.
'We've had a chopper flight to a secluded waterfall and swum in water so clear you can see fish, we've been hiking and trekking, and we've only been here two days, but it feels so much longer. I want to come back and stay for six months,' he said.
Meanwhile, Mark Seymour said his Aviair scenic flight to Purnululu National Park was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
'The Bungle Bungles are some of the strangest land formations I've ever seen,' he said.
'They look like stone mountains millions of years old, and horizontally striped with different coloured rock, like beehives, rising out of the desert, something like science fiction, incredible, miraculous landforms you won't see anywhere else. If you only do one thing, visit the Bungle Bungles.'
Thousands of people attended events throughout Kununurra and its surrounds for the Ord Valley Muster which attracts 1,500 tourists and raises $6 million for the local economy each year.
Festival favourites such as Art In The Park, the rodeo, Corroborree Under The Stars and the free event, Party In The Park were all well attended.
There were also new events by local tourism operators including the Lake Argyle Cliffside Dinner, Bottomless Brunch at Emma Gorge, Cultural Tour at El Questro, Explore with Lamparangana Fishing Adventures, and Art, Culture and Cuisine by Blak Tapas.
Organised by not-for-profit Ord Valley Events Inc, the muster is in its 24th year. Ord Valley Events Inc chair Sophie Cooke said the festival has been built on big decisions.
'Recent years gave us a glimpse of what life without events looks like, the emptiness, a gap in the cultural rhythm of our community because moments of connection, celebration and shared experience are what stitches us together, giving us pride of place and a feeling of honour to be able to share with those that visit,' she said.
COVID caused the festival to be cancelled in 2021 and 2022. The 2023 Fitzroy River flood also created challenges when a major bridge was destroyed, cutting off the East Kimberley from the rest of the State.
Last year ticket sales from the Kimberley Moon Experience were down 60 per cent, putting the future of the festival in jeopardy.
But with funding support from Tourism WA, the muster appears to have bounced back. Dates for next year's festival are set to be announced soon.

‘Like a superpower': Nikita Tszyu reveals wild pre-fight diet consisting of placenta and breast milk

Nikita Tszyu's new pre-fight diet has raised more than a few eyebrows after the Aussie star revealed it includes capsulised placenta and breast milk. Tszyu and his wife, Nikita Bedwell, who married in secret in January, welcomed their first child together in June - named Curiosity after a NASA Mars rover. While the name is unique, so is the way Tszyu is preparing for his fight against Lulzim Ismaili on August 20. Tszyu told Triple M Breakfast on Wednesday that turning to capsulated placenta and breast milk has given him 'a crazy amount of energy' and joked he's 'technically become a cannibal.' 'So, for those who don't know, I just had a baby. And my wife … we freeze-dried her placenta and I've been supplementing on her placenta recently … in tablet form,' Tszyu said. 'I've technically become a cannibal. It's actually like a superpower.' Triple M's Aaron Woods chimed in: 'They reckon breast milk is the best thing you can have! It's so clean.' Tszyu replied: 'Yeah, and it's delicious as well!' Drinking breast milk rose in popularity on the back of weightlifters who claimed they gained extra muscle when switching from full cream to natural breast milk. However, no substantial research into the claim has ever been done. That's because, scientifically, it doesn't make sense. The idea of building muscle largely comes down to protein intake and targeted exercise. And if that is the marker, consuming breast milk instead of cow's milk makes zero sense. For example, 100g of breast milk contains around 1g of protein, compared to 3.1g of protein in full cream milk. The only areas where it is significantly higher are in sugars and fat. As for the placenta claim, Tszyu is just the latest to try a practice that is becoming increasingly common. Stars such as Hilary Duff and Kourtney Kardashian have consumed their placenta – either in liquid or capsule form – after having children. The placenta is a temporary organ, and its sole purpose is to provide the baby with nutrients during pregnancy. And in recent years, placenta tablets – which are pills created by drying and grinding up the placenta into a powder, then encapsulating it – have boomed in popularity. Research is, however, limited on its effectiveness, but the BBC reported in 2015 that there are no proven benefits to consuming it and if anything, it could be harmful. But for Tszyu, he says he feels the difference. 'I've done tests with my sparring – days where I've had it and days where I haven't – and it feels like I got all this crazy amount of energy,' he told Triple M. The science on its benefits is still unclear, but regardless, it's safe to say Tszyu isn't leaving any stone unturned as he looks to improve his record to 13-0 when he takes on Lulzim Ismaili on August 20.

Notoriously private Perth star shares rare baby pic

Tame Impala's Kevin Parker has offered fans a first glimpse of his newborn baby, with the Perth-raised music star and wife Sophie celebrating the recent arrival of their second child. The couple have not publicly revealed the child's name or gender. Marrying in 2019, Parker and Sophie welcomed their daughter Peach in 2021. Their wholesome news coincides with somewhat of a re-birth for Parker as an artist, with the Let It Happen hitmaker building up to the release of his fifth studio album under the Tame Impala moniker following his 2020 project The Slow Rush. In mid-July, the 39-year-old told fans he'd 'been busy' as he unveiled a heavily pregnant Sophie, alongside snapshots from his recent movements both in Europe and WA. Parker's newborn could be seen sleeping peacefully on his chest as he lay on the couch. Other images depicted the producer attending a Fremantle Dockers game, spinning the decks alongside Aussie producer Kito, and hijinks from his End of Summer music video shoot in Barcelona. The long-awaited July release could not have come soon enough for fans who had been patiently awaiting new Tame Impala music. Parker has written and produced alongside several mega stars, including Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Kanye West, and has been covered by Rihanna. With deep roots in Perth, the singer-songwriter was a special guest at the June birthday bash of Fremantle Dockers captain Alex Pearce, held at Patio Bar. As the club's number one ticket holder, he is regularly spotted in the Freo rooms, and even produced a hype track for the club that is often played throughout Optus Stadium on game day. However, some fans were less sentimental, and instead encouraged Parker to prioritise his musical endeavours. 'I will rearrange my entire schedule for tour dates,' one fan said. Another added, 'Just drop the album bro'. Parker released hugely popular album Currents in 2015, with his earlier Tame Impala projects Lonerism and Innerspeaker coming in 2012 and 2010 respectively. With more than 30 million monthly listeners on Spotify, his festival favourite The Less I Know The Better has racked up an impressive two billion streams on the platform.

Abbie Chatfield has last laugh after Brit's parking fumble

A British woman has been served a dose of karma after committing a parking faux pas on an Australian media star's property. Media sensation Abbie Chatfield took to social media on Sunday to recount the 'crazy interaction' she had on her Bondi driveway to her 667,000 followers. The star had left to take her dog for a walk when she noticed a woman in a Mazda had parked an inch away from her car, with the Mazda's backend 'halfway over the driveway'. 'Literally, you could not get a car out at all,' the It's A Lot podcast host told her followers. Chatfield said she felt compelled to approach the woman about the parking job as she had previously heard 'people from England park recklessly'. 'She's not from here, I thought she was confused,' she explained as the motivation behind letting the woman know the move was illegal. Instead of acknowledging the parking blunder and moving her vehicle, Chatfield said the British woman instead became increasingly angry in response. 'She was yelling 'I didn't ask you'…. I told her I didn't want to fight (her). 'I said, 'Babes, people live in this apartment building, they have 4WDs and utes'.' She told the woman it was a 'nightmare' to get out of the driveway, which was reportedly met with laughter and refusal to move — a reaction the Bachelor alumnus took a moment to directly address. 'Why are you laughing that you're committing a crime? Why are you laughing that you're being incredibly disrespectful, blocking someone's driveway, and yelling at a stranger? 'You obviously have no respect for our garden and no respect for our footpath.' Chatfield got the last laugh, however — taking to social media with a follow-up video later that day showing the Mazda's driver received their karma in the form of a $330 fine. 'Well, well, well…. I tried to warn her,' the star joked while showing the ranger ticket underneath the car's wiper. The comments were just as happy as Chatfield to see the woman had gotten fined for the act. 'Karmas so swift sometimes!' one follower wrote. 'This is so incredibly cathartic,' another agreed. Another commenter chimed in: 'Oof $330 is a big fine too, she's going to regret that!' Even Aussie comedian Matt Hey jumped in, saying the payback 'was everything'. Blocking a driveway is illegal in all Australian states. If a parked vehicle obstructs access to a driveway, fines between $100 and $590 apply depending on local council policies. PerthNow reached out to Abbie Chatfield's representatives, however, did not receive a response.
