A man will face court after he was charged with the torture and assault of a seven-week-old baby.
Police began investigating after the boy was taken to Queensland Children's Hospital unresponsive on March 5.
Medical examinations revealed the baby had sustained extensive injuries consistent with 'prolonged and repeated physical abuse'.
As detectives investigated, the baby was removed from the care of a 27-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman.
Following a months-long investigation, police have now charged the 27-year-old Forest Lake man with three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of torture.
'This was a deeply confronting matter for Child Protection and Investigation Unit detectives to undertake given it involved a vulnerable infant sustaining serious injuries,' Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Joshua Brewer said.
He was refused police bail to face Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

BREAKING NEWS Major update after a woman's body was found dumped in bushland on the outskirts of Sydney

A man has been arrested following the shock discovery of a woman's body in Sydney 's west on Sunday. Officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command were called to a reserve off Irwin Street at Werrington, in Sydney's west, about 1.15pm on Sunday following the discovery of a 47-year-old woman's body. The area was sealed off and forensic experts sent in to analyse the scene. 'A crime scene has been established and an investigation has commenced by Nepean detectives, who are being assisted by the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad,' said a police spokesman. 'A canvass of the area is now being conducted by local police, assisted by PolAir.' Nepean Police Area Commander, Detective Superintendent Trent King said a number of belongings were found near the woman, who is believed to be middle aged. 'Other clothing items and other rubbish,' he told a press conference on Sunday evening. 'At this stage I've been informed that it was a woman. Potentially a middle-aged woman, but that's still part of the investigation.' The body was discovered by a passerby who saw the remains from a distance and called Triple Zero. 'It's a remote part of the reserve which backs onto sporting fields on one side and there is residential areas on the other,' Supt. King said. 'That's where we will be concentrating our canvassing this afternoon and this evening to try and ascertain movements as well as anything untoward over the last period of time.' It was unclear how long the body had been at the reserve or how she died. 'Certainly a period of time, very difficult to ascertain at this stage. The scene is currently being examined,' Supt. King said. 'We're hoping certainly in the next couple of days through both the postmortem examination as well as the examination today we will have further information. 'Until we identify the cause of death, the death is unexplained. Certainly in this circumstance we feel it necessary to take it to the highest level (of investigation).' Supt. King added officers from the Missing Persons Unit were combing through files to try and identify the woman. 'There's nothing to indicate a specific person at this stage from our perspective,' he said. 'However, as we speak, the missing persons unit are assisting us with anyone that is currently outstanding.'

Teenage e-bike riders' prank goes horrifically wrong leaving baby in hospital - as her mother hits out

A five-month-old baby girl was rushed to hospital with thick, white powder covering her eyes after an e-bike rider sprayed her with a fire extinguisher. Tiffani Teasdale was driving with her five-month-old baby, Pixie, on High Street in Sippy Downs, on Queensland 's Sunshine Coast, when they stopped at a traffic light about 7.45pm on Sunday. As they waited, two teenagers on e-bikes pulled up next to their car, stuck a fire extinguisher through its rear window and set it off before quickly riding away. 'The car just filled up with gas and white powder straight away,' Ms Teasdale told ABC News. '[Pixie] was completely covered in white powder and just looked like she was in shock, she wasn't even crying.' The horrified mother rushed to hospital where Pixie had to have 100ml of saline solution put in her eyes to clean off the chemical powder. 'The doctors had to hold her down for me because it was the most horrible thing I've ever heard ... no one should have to go through that,' Ms Teasdale said. Pixie was discharged from hospital early Monday morning with her mother urged to continue monitoring her symptoms. The shocked mother described the attack on a local community group. She said while she was 'all for young having fun', the prank went too far and could have caused Pixie's eyes severe and maybe permanent damage. She said the child's face remained red, her eyes were swollen and her breathing was 'wheezy' once she left hospital. 'I hope whoever has done this sees this posts and realises there will be consequences for your actions,' she wrote online. 'A five-second dopamine rush is not worth someone's life. 'I could only imagine If this had been someone with respiratory issues. Do better.' She was later alerted of a fire extinguisher discovered down the road from where she and her daughter were sprayed, which she will take to police. The fire extinguisher left a thick coat of chemical powder all over the family car's interior and destroyed Pixie's pram, toys and nappy bag. A local car detailing business, Grime Busters, has since offered to clean the damage for free. Queensland Police said it is aware of the incident and investigating.

Police hunt masked gunmen who shot three people at Sydney kebab shop in ‘brazen' daylight attack

A man shot in a 'shockingly brazen' daylight attack in Sydney which wounded two other people has had two previous attempts made on his life. The acting New South Wales police commissioner, Peter Thurtell, said it was 'beyond comprehension' three people could be gunned down in Sydney in daylight. It was believed the three victims were wounded when two masked gunmen entered an Auburn kebab shop and fired eight shots early on Monday afternoon, he said. A man, 26, was hit in the arm and shoulder, another yet-to-be-identified male was shot in the face and a 50-year-old woman, who was a shop employee, sustained two torso wounds, he said. The victims are in hospital. Thurtell said the gunmen tried to enter an office at the back of the shop before fleeing in a black BMW with cloned registration plates. 'It is beyond comprehension that three people were shot in a crowded Sydney street in broad daylight and the resources of the NSW police have already been deployed,' he said. 'One of the victims of the shooting, the 26-year-old male, we believe was the subject of two previous attempts on his life.' The man had reported to police on bail an hour before the shooting. 'This is an emerging criminal investigation, we are throwing all our possible resources at it,' Thurtell said. A crime scene has been set up and several roads are closed in the area. The police minister, Yasmin Catley, said some of the best detectives in Australia would work the case as part of Taskforce Falcon. The taskforce was set up in May after nine shootings between warring criminal gangs since the start of summer. About 100 detectives have joined another 50 officers in the taskforce. Sign up for Guardian Australia's breaking news email 'My message to anyone out there going to be doing these place-based shootings on our streets – the police will get you and they will lock you up for a very long time,' Catley said. She said her thoughts were with the people injured in Monday's violence. 'It's horrifying, it's unacceptable and it shakes the sense of safety we all deserve.' The premier, Chris Minns, described the shooting as 'shockingly brazen'. 'People committing this kind of violence can expect to be arrested, charged, and to spend years inside small jail cells,' Minns said.
