Kota Kinabalu: The Pan Borneo Highway project in Sabah is progressing despite concerns over the contractor handling Package WP-35, which covers the upgrading of Jalan Kampung Nabutan to Ranau. State Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said work has already started on several sections, though some areas remain untouched due to ongoing land acquisition issues. 'I visited the site last week, covering packages 33, 34 and 35. Some clearing and preparation works have already started, but other areas remain untouched due to ongoing land acquisition processes,' he said. Shahelmey added that a special committee set up by the Pan Borneo Sabah Project Steering Committee is closely monitoring the progress, with monthly reviews on land acquisition and utility relocation. He assured that his Ministry will continue to monitor the project closely and seek regular updates from the Federal Works Ministry. 'Physical progress is visible in some sections, but it will take another three to six months before we can see more substantial progress,' he said during the Incentive Award Presentation Ceremony for Outstanding SPM Students in Putatan, Friday. The WP-35 package recently became the focus of a viral post alleging internal problems within the contractor, including a breakdown in partnership and questions over its ability to complete the work. Federal Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who was also named in the allegations, denied any wrongdoing and has since lodged a police report. Meanwhile, Shahelmey said roads in Beaufort and Sipitang that are frequently flooded are being reviewed for potential upgrades, including those near schools. He said district engineers have been instructed to assess these flood-prone stretches on a case-by-case basis and provide recommendations for immediate action to keep the roads safe and accessible. 'For roads that are completely cut off by flooding, district engineers and appointed contractors will carry out emergency works to restore access,' he said. Shahelmey also noted that parts of the Beaufort-Sipitang road, which often faces severe flooding, are within the Pan Borneo Highway construction area. He said his Ministry will investigate the causes of flooding in these sections and consider long-term solutions. Singaporean woman given six months' jail in Taiwan for stalking singer, threatening her online

Cassandra Low, who is in her 30s, was identified in a court judgment published by the New Taipei District Court on June 5. She was found guilty of endangering the personal safety of Tsao, stalking and harassing her and also publicly insulting the singer. According to the judgment, Low was said to have been an admirer of Tsao, and they had been exchanging personal e-mails and messages over Facebook and Instagram since November 2023. But after Tsao blocked Low on the social media platforms, she was displeased and posted verbal threats and insults targeting the Taiwanese singer, her family and her agent. In one post on her Facebook account, Low wrote: 'I can be very aggressive. The more stubborn she is... don't blame me for whatever I do to her parents.' In another, she wrote: 'Blocking me, see how I slowly let her agent die.' Low's repeated threats caused Tsao and her agent to leave their homes in New Taipei City. Her extreme behaviour came to a head in February 2025, when she followed Tsao to the Banqiao high-speed rail station after learning her idol was planning to take the train. Low successively held on to Tsao's luggage and her phone in a bid to force the singer to unblock her on social media before she was taken away by local police to assist with investigations. In a video recorded by Tsao during the February incident, Low can be seen blocking the singer's path until she agreed to a reconciliation. For her crimes, Low was sentenced to a total of six months in prison, or a commuted fine of NT$1,000 (S$43) for each day of her jail term. The court had heard that Low is a Singaporean and earned a salary that was more than double that of someone working in Taiwan, meaning that a fine alone may not provide the intended corrective impact or reflect the severity of her crimes. Low will also be deported from Taiwan after serving her sentence or paying her fine. On June 11, Tsao expressed relief at the judgment. 'This is the most comforting piece of news I have received recently,' she wrote on Instagram and Facebook, thanking those around her and her lawyer for their companionship and help. Tsao, 38, who sings mainly in Taiwanese Hokkien and is better known as Tsao Ya-wen, last won the Best Female Taiwanese Singer award at the prestigious Golden Melody Awards in 2021. Influencer raises alarm over FB group circulating photos of underage students
PETALING JAYA: An influencer is sounding the alarm after a Facebook group was found to be circulating photos of underage students. Influencer Mekyun was shocked after being informed that her own student photos had been floated within the group, with sexually charged comments posted to it. The photos were posted on a Facebook group dubbed the "Group Budak 2 Sekolah Rendah", which had around 12,000 members. "I feel so disgusted and sickened. I am speechless. "This group is sharing photos of underage kids including photos of myself when I was still in school. "The comments are so sick. This is wrong and is a crime," she said in an Instagram posting on Tuesday (June 10). She urged the authorities to investigate the issue. In an update to her post she said that the group had been deleted from Facebook. "I myself have contacted the authorities and provided all the evidence that I had.
