Pakistan batter Haider Ali, arrested by Greater Manchester Police for alleged rape, has been granted bail.
Pakistan batter Haider Ali, who was arrested by Greater Manchester Police in connection with an alleged rape case, has been granted bail pending further investigations, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
Haider, a member of the Pakistan Shaheens squad touring England, remains in the UK. The Pakistan Shaheens squad, which included several players on the England tour, has flown to Australia for a multi-team T20 series. Haider has been replaced by all-rounder Mohammad Faiq.
'After receiving a report on Monday, 4 August 2025, of a rape, we arrested a 24-year-old man. It's alleged that the incident occurred on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, at a premises in Manchester. The man has since been bailed pending further enquiries. The victim is being supported by officers," stated Greater Manchester Police to ESPNcricinfo.
According to the report, Haider was arrested in Beckenham, where the Shaheens were playing the last game of their five-match tour. The first two matches were held on July 22 and 25, between which the alleged incident took place on July 23 in Manchester.
The offence carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment in the UK. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Thursday that Haider is under criminal investigation in the UK.
'Accordingly, the PCB has decided to place Haider Ali under provisional suspension, effective immediately, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation. Once the legal proceedings are concluded and all facts have been duly established, the PCB reserves the right to take appropriate action under its Code of Conduct, if necessary," said the statement.
The 24-year-old has represented Pakistan in two ODIs and 35 T20Is and was initially seen as a destructive opener after his standout performances in the Pakistan Super League in 2020.

It's close to all guns blazing, says David on Australia's plan of quick scoring in T20Is

Darwin: After striking a blistering 83 in Australia's 17-run win over South Africa in the T20I series opener, big-hitting batter Tim David said the side's rapid-fire starts in the shortest format is close to their new-found approach of going all guns blazing in lead-up to next year's T20 World Cup. In the game at Marrara Stadium, Australia smacked 71 runs in the Powerplay, though they lost four wickets. "It's obviously not the team plan to be four down within six overs, but that happens at times. We've got what we believe is a great calibre of batters in our batting order, and we back each guy to make the right decisions. "We've been playing together as a group now for a while, so there's not a great deal of instruction from the coaches. They trust the players. We trust ourselves to go out there and we understand the game situation and we make decisions on the fly, because that's the nature of T20 cricket. "I think if you'd watched our guys bat over the last period, wherever they bat around the world and when they play for the Australian team, it's close to all guns blazing. So, yeah, you can probably expect to see that a little bit from our team. That's how we think we play best," David was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo on Monday. Australia lead the three-match series 1-0, with the second T20I scheduled for Tuesday in Darwin. David's 83 off 52 balls has now taken his tally to 215 runs in his past three T20I knocks, a sequence that includes a 37-ball century against the West Indies in St Kitts a fortnight ago. "That's not part of the plan for me. To be honest, the things I've been I've been building towards is the T20 World Cup next year and the major tournaments that are leading up to that. Honestly, I don't operate much further than the next day ahead. But it's a nice problem to have, because if I wasn't scoring any runs, then you wouldn't be asking that question," added David.

"We Didn't Overdo...": What Happened When Team India Went To England Dressing Room At Oval

India's nail-biting victory against England at the Oval Test helped them draw the series 2-2. The victory was crucial, not just for skipper Shubman Gill, who was leading the Indian team for the first time in a Test series, but also head coach Gautam Gambhir and a few other newcomers who were looking to establish themselves in the format. Karun Nair, making a comeback to the Indian team after 8 years, revealed that the Indian team went to England's dressing room, but not with the intention of 'overdoing anything'. "Not really. We didn't overdo anything," Nair told ESPNCricinfo when asked about the celebrations in the dressing room after the match before visiting Ben Stokes ' team in their room. During the course of the series, many altercations took place on the field. Some occasions even saw lines being crossed, prompting sanctions from the International Cricket Council (ICC) too. Leaving those on-field altercations behind, Nair revealed that the two teams had quite a respectful chat when the players met after the end of the Oval Test. "We had a good chat, both teams were respectful of the fact that it was a great series," Nair said. England head coach Brendon McCullum called the series 'greatest 5-match assignment' he has ever been a part of. With all five matches going to 5th days, and the fate of the series being decided by India's 6-run victory, it was truly a series to remember. "Brendon McCullum mentioned it was the greatest Test series to be played in recent memory. As players, we didn't feel the magnitude of it during the matches, but looking back at how the moments panned out, as a group, we feel we achieved something special," said Nair. India's next Test series will be at home against West Indies, starting October 02.

Marnus Labuschagne willing to open for Australia in a bid to make the Ashes squad

Marnus Labuschagne says he is willing to open the innings for Australia if that is what it takes to earn a place in the upcoming Ashes series. The 30-year-old batter, who has been a fixture in the Test side since 2019, was recently dropped for the first time during the series against the West has since taken time to reflect on his form and approach, working closely with coaches at home rather than playing county cricket or representing Australia (being left out) has allowed me to reflect and not have the pressure of the media saying, 'Marnus has got to go',' Labuschagne told News Corp in his first interview since losing his spot, as reported by ESPNCricinfo. 'I mean, that's part of the game. There is a tipping point, but it's something I thrive on — proving the doubters wrong and being able to find a way. Missing those West Indies Tests gave me the chance to think, 'This is where I want to be and this is how I'm going to get there'.'The Queenslander emphasised that he still has the hunger and determination to succeed, particularly in one of cricket's most iconic TO BAT ANYWHERE FOR AUSTRALIALabuschagne acknowledged that selection is not in his hands and said he is prepared to take on any role for the team — even one outside his usual position.'I'd be happy to do that — I'd love to,' he said of potentially opening the batting. 'If opener is where I need to bat to be playing in the Test team, that's fine. I've batted at number three my whole career, but at this stage you don't get a choice. I opened in the World Test Championship final and felt I batted quite well. I got in but did not go on with it.'His comments come as Australia debates its opening combination. Sam Konstas, who opened during the West Indies series, has shown technical vulnerabilities, prompting discussion over whether he should retain his place or make way for a more experienced option. Labuschagne's willingness to adapt could put him firmly back in the selectors' plans ahead of the Ashes.- EndsMust Watch
