Meghalaya deploys drones to trace Indore woman
Shillong: The Meghalaya govt has deployed drones to assist in the ongoing search operation carried out by National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, SRT, Fire and Emergency Services, Special Operations Team, Special Investigation Team and local volunteers On Friday, the operation was carried out in inclement weather and challenging terrain to try and locate the missing woman from Indore, Sonam Rajbanshi (27). The search operation was called off in the evening due to foggy weather and poor visibility and will resume on Saturday. Investigation into the murder of Sonam's husband, Raja Rajuvanshi (29), is also underway. The newly-married couple from Madhya Pradesh had come to Sohra on a honeymoon trip. Leader of the Opposition, Mukul Sangma, has called for installation of more CCTVs at vantage entry points to the state. Speaking to reporters, Sangma said the couple had chosen Meghalaya as it is the safest tourist destination. "I condole the unfortunate loss of life of this family…," he said. The former chief minister maintained there was no time to play politics over the incident and it should be a wake-up call for the govt and the people of the state. "The govt must take cognizance of this. It may not be an act of the member belonging to any militant outfit but it can be because of what is already prevailing in the state of Meghalaya, so wake up, the citizens must wake up, all of us must wake up," he said. The veteran public leader also stressed the need to implement the Meghalaya Residents, Safety and Security Act, 2016, and said installation of CCTVs has been mandated by the law. India's next goal is to be among world's top defence exporters, says PM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (June 6, 202%) said Operation Sindoor demonstrated the strength of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), and pledged to make India one of world's top defence exporters. 'Today, the world is recognising India's defence ecosystem,' Mr. Modi said in his speech at Udhampur's Katra. Mr. Modi said India had emerged as a leading defence exporter over the past decade, and 'the next goal is to position India among the world's top defence exporters'. 'The faster India moves towards this objective, the more employment opportunities will be generated nationwide, benefiting millions,' he said. 'Choose products made in India' The Prime Minister said that just as the nation honoured its armed forces on the borders, it must also uphold the pride of 'Made in India' in the market, ensuring that India's strength is reflected in both defence and commerce. He said the recent military success was due to the armed forces' trust in 'Make in India'. 'Every Indian must now emulate their commitment. The Mission Manufacturing initiative, announced in this year's budget, was aimed at accelerating India's manufacturing sector,' he said. He called upon young innovators and entrepreneurs in Jammu and Kashmir to join this mission. 'India needs their modern thinking, innovation, ideas, and skills to elevate national security and economic growth,' he added. Calling upon every Indian to make a commitment to prioritise products made in India, Mr. Modi said that these goods are a true reflection of the hard work and dedication of fellow citizens. 'Choosing Indian-made products is the real service to the nation, strengthening the economy and empowering workers,' he added.

'I'll tell you why not': Shashi Tharoor snubs Trump's mediation claim over ceasefire
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is leading the Indian diplomatic outreach programme in the Americas, dismissed the idea of any mediation between India and Pakistan, stating that there "can be no negotiation with unequals." Tharoor, while responding to a question during a conversation at the Council on Foreign Relations, said that negotiations 'cannot happen, especially when one side consists of terrorists and the other their victims.' "Mediation is not a term that we are particularly willing to entertain. I'll tell you why not. The fact is that this implies, even when you say things like a broker or whatever, you're implying an equivalence which simply doesn't exist," Tharoor said, as quoted by news agency PTI. Since May 10, when Trump announced on social media that India and Pakistan had agreed to a 'full and immediate' ceasefire after a 'long night' of talks mediated by Washington, he has repeated his claim over a dozen times that he 'helped settle' the tensions between India and Pakistan. About two weeks after the horrific April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir in which 26 civilians were killed, India launched Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7.
