Boulder community mourns loss of Karen Diamond, after fatal antisemitic attack
, an 82-year-old beloved member of Boulder's Jewish community, Colorado, has died from injuries suffered during a brutal
antisemitic attack
earlier this month, officials confirmed Monday. Diamond was hospitalized with severe burns and trauma after being targeted in a firebombing on Boulder's Pearl Street Mall on June 1, where she and others were peacefully protesting to raise awareness for Israeli hostages held in Gaza.
According to prosecutors, the attacker, identified as Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 46, allegedly threw two
Molotov cocktails
into the crowd while shouting
pro-Palestinian slogans
, including 'Free Palestine.' Court documents reveal Soliman had brought 16 more incendiary devices to the scene and disguised himself as a gardener to get close to the marchers. The attack left 13 people physically injured, with at least eight requiring hospitalization, and a total of 29 victims have now been identified by authorities.
Diamond succumbed to her injuries on June 25 after weeks in intensive care. Her death has led prosecutors to upgrade charges against Soliman to first-degree murder, in addition to existing attempted murder and federal
hate crime
charges. Although Colorado abolished the death penalty in 2020, federal prosecutors could still pursue capital charges due to the hate crime element.

SPPU seeks clarification as Army Law College students' protest enters 9th day
Pune: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) sent a letter to the Army Law College on Thursday, asking them to clarify their position on the grievances raised by students. The students have alleged deteriorating academic, administrative, and mental health conditions in the college and have demanded the resignation of the principal. Students have been boycotting classes since Aug 8, and to minimise academic loss for juniors, seniors have said they are conducting classes for them. Madhushree Joshi, principal, however, on Saturday denied all the charges. According to the letter, reasons for the protest include appointing teachers without expertise in certain subjects, dissolution of the student council for voicing students' issues, public humiliation and mental harassment of students by the principal, discrimination based on parents' rank, failure to complete mandated lectures in a subject taught by the principal last year, and the adoption of anti-student policies in general. Offering five-year integrated courses in BBA LLB and BA LLB, it currently has approximately 377 students enrolled. On the first day of the protest on Aug 8, police were called to the campus by college officials. Students said they had sent over 150 emails to AWES and also sent emails to the Bar Council of India and SPPU in the past two months. It was because of no response from them that they resorted to boycotting classes, students said. Court clears Bishop Emeritus of charges under POCSO Act
Pune: A sessions court in the city discharged Bishop Emeritus Thomas Dabre (79) of Poona Diocese of charges of allegedly violating provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act by failing to disclose information about a sexual assault incident involving a 14-year-old boy at a school in 2018. Additional sessions judge Anirudhha Gandhi, in his order of August 8, noted, "The Bishop in a meeting asked a police officer if he should report the sexual assault incident to the police. But the officer said a Bishop cannot be forced to make a complaint and advised him that only a victim could file a complaint. The Bishop thus discharged his duty of communicating the incident to the police. He still directed his subordinate to inform the incident to the Wanowrie police and a letter dated March 20, 2018, was sent giving details of the incident involving the school principal. " The Wanowrie police filed a chargesheet against a school principal and another individual for sexually assaulting and harassing the minor under the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act . Subsequently, a supplementary chargesheet was filed against the Bishop after investigations allegedly revealed that he did not report the incident to the police. Noida: The National Green Tribunal has directed the Ghaziabad DM to submit an action plan against illegal dyeing units within the next three months. The tribunal was told that power supply to some units operating without consent to operate (CTO) has already been disconnected. The tribunal was disposing of the original application filed by Prem Nagar residents welfare association (RWA), Loni, on Aug 5. The NGT formed a joint committee on Oct 24 to verify the claims. After multiple inspections, the committee submitted its report in two parts on March 31 and Aug 4, 2025. Out of the 286 industrial units pointed out in the complaint, as many as 37, comprising 34 dyeing units and three electroplating units, were found to be operating either without consent to operate (CTO) or releasing chemical waste into the drain without any treatment. The tribunal comprising chairperson justice Prakash Srivastava, judicial member justice Sudhir Agrawal, and expert member Dr A Senthil ruled that it has been pointed out that the issue of Indrapuri drain, which outflows in the river Yamuna, is under consideration along with the other drains in OA No. 6/2012 and that Ghaziabad DM will ensure that a proper time-bound action plan within three months "He will ensure the preparation of such a time-bound action plan within three months from today and will submit an action taken report before the Registrar General of the Tribunal by email," the tribunal ruled while disposing of the matter.
