Morehead State renaming stadium after Phil Simms
The official dedication will take place at the stadium in Morehead, Ky., during homecoming weekend on Oct. 18.
Simms played for the program from 1974-78. The Kentucky native passed for 5,545 yards and 32 touchdowns during his career and was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year in 1977.
"Phil Simms has remained loyal to MSU throughout the years," athletic director Kelly Wells said. "He has given MSU his time, talent, and treasure to MSU since his days as a college athlete. He has visited Morehead during the summers to host summer camps for young athletes and encouraged them to consider MSU.
"He has mentored MSU coaches and players throughout the years. Most notable, he has hosted numerous fundraising events and personally contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to support the football program. This recognition is most deserving and long overdue."
The Giants drafted him with the seventh overall pick in 1979 and he remained with the team through his final NFL season in 1993. The two-time Pro Bowl selection ranks second in franchise history in passing yards (33,462) and touchdown passes (199).
He was named the MVP of New York's 39-20 win against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXI, completing 22 of 25 passes for 268 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions.
Simms earned a second ring with the Giants in Super Bowl XXV when his injury replacement, Jeff Hostetler, led the team to a 20-19 win against the Buffalo Bills.
Simms, who turns 70 in November, returned to campus in 2015 to receive his bachelor's degree. The university also presented him with an honorary doctorate.
Following his playing career, Simms spent three decades in the broadcast booth.

Reports: Bills RB James Cook agrees to 4-year, $48M extension
August 13 - By Field Level Media Two-time Pro Bowl running back James Cook and the Buffalo Bills reached agreement on a four-year, $48 million contract extension with $30 million guaranteed, multiple media outlets reported on Wednesday morning. The deal makes Cook the seventh highest-paid running back in the NFL based on new money per season. The news comes one day after Cook opted to participate in practice for the first time since he informed the team of plans to sit out as part of a "business" decision tied to his expiring contract. "James could only envision himself as a Buffalo Bill," Cook's agent Zac Hiller said, per ESPN. "We are extremely thankful to the entire Bills organization and glad we could make that happen." Head coach Sean McDermott noted before Tuesday's morning practice that things had changed with the Cook-Bills situation, but didn't elaborate or provide context to his statement. Cook, 25, had 16 rushing touchdowns and scored in 12 of the Bills' 17 regular-season games in 2024. He has rushed for 2,638 yards and 20 touchdowns and caught 97 passes for 883 yards and seven scores in 49 games since being drafted in the second round in 2022. Cook dressed but did not play in the preseason opener last week, a 34-25 loss to the New York Giants. In his absence, the Bills turned to Ray Davis and Ty Johnson. Frank Gore Jr. put up 50 receiving yards on a team-best five receptions and had 21 rushing yards.

Footy WAG claims she had to move on from her job because of her social media posts
The girlfriend of an AFL player has claimed she felt she had to leave her job because her employer didn't like her rising social media profile. Paris Tier, the partner of Greater Western Sydney Giants player Conor Stone, revealed on her podcast WAG: Women and Goals that she changed jobs because of her TikTok posts. She was working in sales merchandising at a time when she wasn't creating much noise online because she had few followers. But her relationship with Stone changed that and her posts quickly gained traction. Tier's social media content – which had nothing to do with her employment – started attracting 30,000 views or more. And that's when she believes things changed at work. 'I got a call from a colleague and she said, "Our boss has called me saying you can't work tomorrow because somebody has complained about your TikTok",' Tier told News Corp. Tier was told the complaint was not made to the company that employed her directly, but the one that she was contracted to as part of her role. Tier (pictured with Stone) said she moved on from her previous job despite confronting the HR department to make sure her social media posts were okay The post that attracted the complaint was about an NRL player. Tier later deleted the video. She asked the company's HR and media departments whether her social media presence was an issue. 'I was a little bit disappointed because when I messaged [my boss] about it, she said it was nothing,' Tier said. She consulted an employment lawyer while she was on two weeks' leave after she was told she 'wasn't the right fit for the role'. Tier said she quit the role just before she was sent a letter of termination, and claimed she still has no idea where the complaint came from or if it was even real. The footy WAG is now happily working in a new industry, but believes employment contracts should highlight potential issues regarding employees' social media use. She also hit out at assumptions that WAGs are often unemployed stay-at-home mums who don't 'have half a brain cell'. 'People have assumptions because we don't post our work, but how can people post their work when individuals do something like this?' she said. 'It's not fair.' Tier revealed in July that she moved in with Stone earlier this year and said they were 'putting together a rental prenup'. Tier's contract with the 23-year-old wasn't just about protecting property – it was also about preserving their romance. 'If you're living together for two months and your boyfriend starts farting, that's going to de-romanticise the relationship a lot, which is something I don't really want to happen,' Tier explained. 'So I would write in the prenup, "I don't want you to fart in front of me".' Tier has also hit out at the hate players' partners get online, revealing she had received comments like 'I thought WAGs were supposed to be skinny'. 'I actually made a video and before I posted it, I was like, "Oh, I actually feel fat in this",' she said. 'Within minutes of it being up, I got like five comments… people calling me fat and saying I don't fit, I guess, the WAG criteria.'

Padres' relief corps shuts down skidding Giants
August 13 - Jose Iglesias and Jackson Merrill hit home runs, four San Diego relievers combined for 4 1/3 scoreless innings, and the Padres made it two in a row over the San Francisco Giants with a 5-1 road triumph on Tuesday. Ramon Laureano doubled, single and scored twice for the Padres, who won their fourth game in a row. After the teams traded single runs in the first inning, San Diego took the lead for good when Laureano opened the second with a single and jogged home on Iglesias' two-run homer to left field. It was Iglesias' first long ball of the season. San Diego tacked on single runs in the fourth (on an RBI double by Jake Cronenworth, scoring Laureano) and in the eighth (on Merrill's ninth homer of the year). Giants starter Robbie Ray (9-6) yielded four runs in six innings. He allowed seven hits and one walk while striking out four. San Francisco lost its fourth game in a row. Down 1-0 after Ray balked home Manny Machado in the top of the first, the Giants immediately got even when Casey Schmitt doubled, went to third on a single by Rafael Devers and scored on a two-out infield hit by Wilmer Flores. That was the last of the San Francisco scoring. Padres starter Nestor Cortes teamed with relievers David Morgan, Jason Adam, Adrian Morejon and Robert Suarez to dance into and out of trouble, limiting the Giants to just the one run despite 10 hits. Ahead 4-1 but facing a two-on, two-out situation, Cortes was pulled one out from a possible win in the fifth. Morgan came on to strike out Willy Adames and end the threat. Adam (8-3), who took over for Morgan and worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out mess in the sixth to retain the three-run lead, was credited with the win. The Giants wound up stranding 11 baserunners. Merrill joined Laureano with two hits apiece for the Padres, who have won six of eight against the Giants this season. Schmitt had a career-high-tying four hits and Flores added two hits for the Giants, who fell to 1-4 on their nine-game homestand. --Field Level Media
