‘Clair Obscur: Expedition 33′ Sells 2 Million Copies In Just 12 Days
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 continues to be on a roll, and its hot streak isn't going anywhere. After selling one million copies in its first three days of launch, the role-playing game (RPG) has hit the two-million milestone 12 days in — a feat made even more impressive with its debut title status.
'We've watched in awe as so many of you began your journey. Feeling every step, every emotion, every revelation alongside you,' reads the announcement post on X/Twitter. 'To those just joining us: welcome. Tomorrow comes.'
The showing is the latest in a series of achievements from developer Sandfall Interactive, including an all-time peak of 145,063 concurrent players on Steam, surpassing its previous record of 121,422, a 9.7 user score on Metacritic, the highest rating of 2025 thus far, and public recognition from French president Emmanuel Macron.
While there were initial concerns that it'd be overshadowed by The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered , which Bethesda shadow-dropped two days prior, publisher Kepler Interactive said the near back-to-back releases helped to stir excitement for the RPG genre, and in turn, benefited Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 .
'We always knew that Expedition 33 had a very specific identity. When I was in the press, I saw the Western-style RPG and the Japanese-style RPG as having quite different appeals and audiences,' portfolio manager Matt Handrahan told The Game Business. I knew plenty of people that would play an Elder Scrolls game that wouldn't necessarily play Final Fantasy and vice versa.'
He added: 'Also, by the time that we rolled around, we had momentum of our own and we felt pretty confident that we could stand beside it. I think there were other aspects, like the price point we were at and the inclusion in Game Pass. So we knew we would have a lot of interest around the game. We were confident in that. And it went as well as it possibly could have done in our eyes. And, actually, proximity to Oblivion didn't seem to harm us at all. In many ways, I think it just drew attention to quality RPGs that week and everybody was thinking and talking about the genre.'
It turned out to be a worthy gamble, as this humble passion project from a core team of around 30 developers has flipped the rhetoric of triple-A and heavyweight titles and the definition of success on its head. Indeed, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a rare success story for the ages with asinine beginnings — speaking to BBC, studio founder Guillaume Broche revealed that he was
'bored' in his previous job at Ubisoft, found composer Lorien Testard, who had never worked on a video game before, on the music-sharing website Soundcloud, and gathered a whole team of junior developers.
Led by a stacked voice cast that includes Charlie Cox ( Daredevil ), Jennifer English ( Baldur's Gate 3 ), Andy Serkis ( The Lord of the Rings ), Ben Starr ( Final Fantasy XVI ), Kirsty Rider ( The Sandman ), Shala Nyx ( The Old Guard ) and more, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 follows a group of Expeditioners who have set out to destroy an entity called the Paintress, who paints a number on a monolith every year that dooms everyone of that age to death.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Gaming Test — Wuthering Waves, Zenless Zone Zero, Genshin Impact & PUBG Mobile
All things considered, the Samsung Galaxy S25 series meets the mark for a slim profile. At 162 grams and 7.2 mm thick, the base model packs compact muscle for work and play, but its newest addition, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, goes even leaner and meaner without skimping on performance. The device fits a Snapdragon Elite 8 processor and Adreno 830 GPU into its 5.8 mm-thin chassis, which accompanies a 6.7-inch QHD+ 120Hz display (3,200 x 1,800 pixels) for viewing enjoyment. It also inherits the same 200-megapixel camera from its Ultra sibling, alongside the full suite of Galaxy AI features, establishing itself as a competent all-rounder. Naturally, the horsepower extends to mobile gaming, and there's plenty to like about here. The lightweight form factor affords better grip and comfort in the hand, and it passed the gaming gauntlet of Wuthering Waves , Zenless Zone Zero , Genshin Impact , and PUBG: Mobile with flying colours. Frame rate drops were kept to a minimum, with surprisingly capable thermal management keeping overheating at bay even under heavy loads. Check out the performance of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge in the video above, spanning benchmarking indicators, starting and ending temperatures, and more. The S$1,628 base model features 12GB of RAM and 256GB of ROM, while the 512GB iteration retails for S$1,808. Max Returns As HBO Max (Again) After 2 Years Of Rebranding
Here's an official announcement that sounds like a joke but isn't: Max, the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max, is changing its name back to….wait for it, HBO Max. The rebranding will take place this summer, two years after Warner Bros. Discovery dropped 'HBO' from the title. The effort was even more short-lived in Southeast Asia, including Singapore, where it only launched last November with the Standard and Ultimate subscription tiers. More recently, its logo was also tweaked to the classic black-and-white HBO colour scheme, replacing the purple background from before. 'Today, we are bringing back HBO, the brand that represents the highest quality in media, to further accelerate that growth in the years ahead,' David Zaslav, president and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, said in a news release. Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max content, added: 'With the course we are on and strong momentum we are enjoying, we believe HBO Max far better represents our current consumer proposition. And it clearly states our implicit promise to deliver content that is recognised as unique and, to steal a line we always said at HBO, worth paying for.' The company is no stranger to name changes, with its origins dating back to HBO Go, established as the original streaming service for HBO cable users in 2010. The release of HBO Now followed in 2015, allowing non-cable subscribers to stream content before both platforms were absorbed into HBO Max. To say that its history is confusing is probably an understatement for most. In any case, Max will revert to HBO Max sometime in Summer 2025 (and hopefully, can keep it for a longer time). The series stars Ella Purnell ( Arcane ), Aaron Moten ( Emancipation ), Walton Goggins ( Justified ), and Kyle MacLachlan ( Twin Peaks ) as Lucy, Maximus, Cooper Howard / The Ghoul, and Hank MacLean, respectively, who will all return for the second season alongside newcomers like Kumail Nanjiani ( Eternals ) as 'a high-ranking official within the Brotherhood of Steel' and Macaulay Culkin ( Home Alone ) as 'a crazy genius-type character'.
