DTC to allow advertisement space at 16 bus terminals
In a push to increase its 'non-fare revenue', the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will auction advertisement rights at 16 major bus terminals across the Capital. With high footfall and prominent road visibility, these sites will be monetised through wall wraps and digital screens.
According to a tender floated by DTC, the advertising rights will be granted for a five-year term, with the option for annual extensions of up to five more years. Bidders can apply for wall wrap advertisements, digital screens, or both, and the highest bidder will be awarded the contract for each terminal.
'Apart from revenue generation, this creates avenues for public messaging, civic campaigns, and brand visibility at some of the city's busiest locations,' said Delhi transport minister Pankaj Singh. 'We are trying to recover DTC from years of losses and turn it into a profit-making venture that can serve commuters better.'
Singh added that DTC is exploring several avenues to recover past losses and boost its non-fare revenue.
The monthly reserve license fee for digital screens ranges from ₹1.22 lakh to ₹2.24 lakh, while fees for wall wraps start at ₹28,834 at Ambedkar Stadium Terminal and go up to ₹3.9 lakh at Nehru Place Terminal. Screen sizes will range from 3 to 18 square metres and must receive structural certification before installation.
Bidders will be required to comply with the Outdoor Advertisement Policy (OAP) 2017 and share 50% of the revenue with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
This initiative is part of a broader strategy by DTC to diversify revenue sources, as reported by HT on April 10. Earlier this year, the corporation announced plans to generate ₹18 crore through advertisements on buses and bus shelters. Other proposals include monetising unipoles (single-pole advertising boards), bus body wraps, wall wraps, and digital screens. DTC is also considering leasing commercial space at depots, while the transport department plans to redevelop the Inter-State Bus Terminals (ISBTs) at Kashmere Gate, Sarai Kale Khan, and Anand Vihar.
A senior DTC official said the current focus is on fixed infrastructure, such as terminal boundary walls and enclosed spaces, which remain underutilised.
Among the terminals listed in the tender are some of Delhi's busiest, including Nehru Place, Hauz Khas, Punjabi Bagh, Shahdara, and Uttam Nagar. Others include Mehrauli, Mangla Puri, Sultanpuri, Rohini Sector 22, Mangolpuri, Jal Vihar, Bindapur, Karawal Nagar, Ambedkar Stadium, Narela A-9, and Narela Dhiran Jhor.
The last date for bid submission is June 20. A pre-bid meeting will be held on June 9, with clarifications due by June 12.
The initiative comes against the backdrop of a damning performance audit of DTC by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) tabled in the Delhi Assembly in March. The audit assessed DTC's performance from 2015-16 to 2021-22 and flagged cumulative losses of ₹60,741 crore by 2021-22, despite annual revenue grants from the Delhi government.
The audit noted that DTC lacked a long-term business or perspective plan and had performed worse than other state transport undertakings and the national average. It also found that DTC had done little to augment non-fare revenue in recent years.
'No major initiatives were taken towards raising non-operational revenue,' the report had said, citing the non-recovery of ₹225.31 crore in rent for depots transferred to cluster buses, delays in awarding advertisement contracts, and failure to commercially utilise available depot space.

First-of-its-kind SAF production policy on the anvil in U.P.
The Yogi Adityanath government will soon come up with the Uttar Pradesh Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Manufacturing Promotion Policy-2025 -- poised to be the first of its kind in the country, officials said. Chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh on Sunday apprised industry leaders and investors about the policy at an event hosted by Invest UP. Singh outlined the proposed incentives, facilitation mechanisms, and state's unique advantages as a production hub. A key highlight was the policy's potential to benefit the state's farming community. The SAF industry's demand for biomass and grain-based feedstock, such as sugarcane bagasse, rice husk, wheat straw, and surplus grains, will create new market opportunities for farmers, said Singh. 'This policy not only accelerates our green energy transition but also ensures our farmers directly gain from it, putting more money into their hands while building a greener future,' Singh said. A detailed presentation by Invest UP showcased the SAF vision in state followed by an interactive dialogue with industry leaders. On the occasion, Invest UP addressed key topics such as land availability, policy design, and ease of doing business. More than 18 companies expressed interest in establishing SAF units in the state. Collectively, these firms proposed investment intentions exceeding ₹3,000 crore. With India's largest network of air, rail, and road infrastructure, including five international airports, Uttar Pradesh offers seamless logistics and market connectivity, Singh said. Earlier, Invest UP had floated an Expression of Interest (EOI) inviting global SAF technology providers and clean energy innovators to join the ecosystem. Invest UP CEO Vijay Kiran Anand and senior officials from various departments were present on the occasion.

Lavender gave small J&K town of Bhaderwah national identity, role in India's economic growth: Jitendra Singh
New Delhi [India], June 1 (ANI): Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh praised the Agri-Startup model of Lavender farming as a transformative force that has rewritten the narrative of entrepreneurship in remote and hilly terrains, saying that Lavender has given the small J&K town of Bhaderwah a national identity and also a national role in India's economic growth. 'Bhaderwah, once a quiet hilly town, is now a beacon of India's rural startup revolution. Lavender has not just added fragrance to these mountains--it has added identity, income, and inspiration,' said Singh while inaugurating 2-day Lavender festival 2025 organized by CSIR- IIIM Jammu in Bhaderwah town of Jammu. 'This single mission has answered multiple challenges,'Jitendra Singh said, 'It busted the myth that StartUps are limited to IT or require foreign degrees. Our youth in Jammu & Kashmir, in collaboration with CSIR-IIIM, have shown that passion, perseverance, and learning can build sustainable ventures rooted in agriculture.' He proudly shared that young entrepreneurs in Bhaderwah are earning an average of Rs 65 lakhs annually through lavender cultivation and value-added products, motivating many others to leave conventional jobs and pursue farming as a lucrative business opportunity, according to the Ministry of Science & Technology. Jitendra Singh credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing Bhaderwah and the Purple Revolution to the national stage. 'When the Prime Minister dedicated nearly ten minutes in his 'Mann Ki Baat' to talk about this Lavender mission in detail, it gave the best possible global introduction to Bhaderwah--one that we couldn't have imagined,' Singh said. The Minister emphasised that it was PM Modi's vision of StartUp India and StandUp India, announced from the ramparts of the Red Fort, that ignited the entrepreneurial spirit in regions that previously needed long explanations to justify their existence on the developmental map. Singh revealed that there are currently 50 distillation units operational in Bhaderwah, with lavender-derived products being supplied to markets in Maharashtra and other states. The model has not only attracted attention from neighboring states like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, but also from the North-Eastern states, whose representatives were present at the festival to gain first-hand insights. 'This is a new paradigm the world is witnessing - a rural, agriculture-based startup revolution that is both scalable and sustainable,' he remarked. Another myth that Jitendra Singh addressed was the misconception that StartUps are only for the young. He shared that a special exhibition featuring 60+ age group entrepreneurs will be showcased in the next edition of the festival. Drawing a broader economic context, Singh said, 'India has moved from the 5th largest to the 4th largest economy, and sectors like lavender cultivation will further fuel our rise. These unexplored areas, when empowered, will become pillars of value addition and employment generation.' He also addressed skepticism around India's economic resilience amid aggressive defence postures. 'Despite challenging times and operations like Sindoor, India's economy has not only remained buoyant but also grown. That is a fitting reply to skeptics,' he asserted. Concluding his address, Singh praised Dr Zabeer and the CSIR-IIIM team for organizing an unprecedented event in Bhaderwah that drew visitors from all over India. He invited everyone to visit the lavender fields over the next 10-15 days during peak bloom and hear directly from the entrepreneurs themselves. (ANI)

‘UP emerges as backbone of India's defence sector'
Lucknow: Crediting the Modi-Yogi leadership for transforming the state into a hub of military manufacturing and exports, Sarojininagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh on Sunday said that Uttar Pradesh is emerging as the backbone of India's defence sector. Sharing insights on platform X, Singh said, "From rifles to rockets, UP is forging India's defence future. Our state is now a symbol of self-reliance, innovation, and global impact." The state hosts seven ordnance factories, three HAL units, and two Indo-Russian ventures — the AK-203 rifle unit in Amethi and the BrahMos missile facility in Lucknow. Six Defence Corridor nodes, three testing beds, South Asia's largest arms complex (Adani Defence, Kanpur), and the country's first strategic materials complex (PTC Industries, Lucknow) further underline UP's strategic importance. Global players like MKU Limited and Lohia Aerospace from Kanpur export to over 100 countries, reinforcing UP's position in the international defence supply chain. Singh hailed this as a hallmark of Aatmanirbhar Bharat , saying, "Under PM Modi and CM Yogi, UP is not only securing India but also generating jobs, driving innovation, and placing the state on the global defence map."
