Online Gaming Bill: Nazara Tech crashes up to 8%, Delta Corp recovers
While Delta Corp trimmed morning losses and gained about 3%, Nazara Tech continued to face selling pressure and hit an intraday low of Rs 1,289 (down 8%) even as it issued a clarification stating that the company said that it has no direct exposure to real money gaming (RMG) businesses.
The Online Gaming Bill seeks to prevent individuals and organizations from providing online money-based games or associated services within India. It further aims to prohibit advertisements that promote such games and to curb financial transactions connected to these platforms. Financial institutions, including banks, may also be restricted from processing payments for them.
If enacted, the Online Gaming Bill, 2025 would mark a substantial regulatory shift in India's online gaming ecosystem, particularly affecting platforms that offer real-money gameplay.
Adarsh Somani, Partner, Economic Laws Practice said that the government's move to tighten rules for money-based games under the proposed Online Gaming Bill reflects a growing recognition of the risks associated with real-money play, ranging from addiction and financial losses to concerns of consumer protection and illegal betting.

PM Modi to inaugurate affordable houses, shops in Ahmedabad on Aug 25
Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 1,449 affordable houses and 130 shops built for Rs 133.42 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) during his two-day Gujarat visit on August 25–26. The project, developed under the in-situ slum redevelopment component, will provide modern housing facilities to families living in slum settlements of Ahmedabad's Nikol area. Under PMAY (Urban), Gujarat has so far completed construction of over 15 lakh houses, against a target of 7.64 lakh, with 9.66 lakh houses sanctioned and 9.07 lakh already delivered. The state has also bagged multiple national awards for its performance, including six in 2019 and seven in 2022. Meanwhile, under PMAY (Rural), Gujarat has completed 6 lakh houses since 2016, with an additional 2.39 lakh homes under construction, to be completed by March 2026. The scheme has attracted cumulative spending of Rs 8,936.55 crore till August 2025. Beneficiaries have also received additional state incentives such as Rs 50,000 roof-casting support, Rs 20,000 completion bonus, and assistance for sanitation and employment through convergence with MGNREGA and Swachh Bharat Mission. Gujarat has also been at the forefront of innovations, becoming the first state in India to get approval for Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHCs) and one of six states implementing the Light House Project under the Global Housing Technology Challenge, with 1,144 technologically advanced houses already completed in Rajkot. The Gujarat government has steadily increased its housing budget in recent years to boost affordable housing, particularly under schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and Mukhyamantri Gruh Yojana. A significant portion of allocations goes toward urban housing for low and middle-income groups, slum redevelopment, and rural housing support. The focus is on making housing more inclusive by providing subsidies, easy loans, and incentives for private developers to participate in affordable housing projects. The state has also emphasised green housing, infrastructure support, and integrating housing projects with basic amenities like water, sanitation, and electricity, ensuring that the push for 'Housing for All' is not just about construction but also about livability.

Assam CM supports 130th Constitution Amendment Bill, calls it a step to 'restore faith in governance'
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Thursday, strongly backed the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025, calling it a "historic and transparent reform" aimed at restoring public trust in governance. The Bill, tabled in Parliament this week, mandates that if a sitting Prime Minister, Chief Minister or Minister is arrested, they must secure bail within 30 days. Failure to do so, it states, will amount to establishing prima facie legitimacy of the arrest. Chief Minister Sarma, speaking to reporters after the state Cabinet meeting, dismissed Opposition's concerns as "baseless" and asked why anyone would oppose what he termed a fair and clear-cut provision. "This Bill is not about politics; it is about accountability. If a leader is arrested, let them face the law. If they cannot obtain bail within a month, it shows the case has weight. Why should anyone have a problem with such transparency?" he asked. Taking a jibe at the Congress, Chief Minister Sarma alleged that the Opposition was "instinctively rattled" because the Bill curtails the culture of impunity enjoyed by leaders for decades. "Those who treated politics as a shield from the law are obviously nervous. But this government believes nobody is above the law -- not even the Prime Minister, not even a Chief Minister," he said. Chief Minister Sarma added that the provision strengthens democratic accountability by ensuring that cases against high office-bearers are not left in limbo. "Earlier, legal proceedings against Ministers dragged on endlessly, creating suspicion among citizens that the powerful enjoyed immunity. This amendment puts an end to that perception. It makes governance more credible," he stressed. The Chief Minister reiterated that the BJP was committed to pushing reforms that bring governance closer to people's expectations of fairness and justice. "The 130th Amendment Bill is a milestone in cleaning up Indian politics. Only those who fear exposure to the law will oppose it. For the common man, this is a victory of democracy," Chief Minister Sarma asserted.

Dream11 to shut real money gaming operations, focus on alternatives, says report
Dream Sports, the parent company of fantasy gaming major Dream11, is reportedly set to shut down its real money gaming (RMG) operations, following India's new Online Gaming Bill 2025, according to Entrackr, citing sources. Livemint reached out to the company seeking an official statement on the report, and Dream11 declined to comment. Speaking to the publication, the sources said that staff was informed about the decision to shut down real money gaming operations via an internal town hall on August 20. They added that RMG contributes to over 67 per cent of Dream Sports' annual revenues. The Entrackr report further cited another source saying that Dream11 will move from RMG to expand instead into non-real money options such as Sportz Drip and Fancode. Besides this, focus will reportedly also move to its other investments such as Willow TV and Cricbuzz and expansion into overseas markets. 'The firm is also likely to explore new game formats for overseas markets, similar to the strategy adopted by Mobile Premier League (MPL),' a second source the online publication. This source added that impact of the RMG section would have a ripple effect, triggering 'severe cost-cutting measures, including mass layoffs, as the RMG business employed the majority of the firm's workforce'. The Rajya Sabha on August 21 approved the Online Gaming Bill, 2025, sealing the deal on the Indian government banning all forms of online money games in the country. The bill was approved by the Lok Sabha on August 20. The bill 'Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025' was presented in the Upper House by Union Minister of Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw, who said the legislation will promote two-thirds of the online gaming segment, but will ban online money games, 'which have become a big problem for society, especially middle-class youth'. 'There is addiction. The family's savings are lost. It is estimated that 45 crore people have fallen victim to it. More than ₹ 20,000 crore of our middle-class families' hard-earned money has been destroyed,' Vaishnaw said. Besides online real money gaming, the bill also seeks to prohibit ads related to such games, and bars banks and financial institutions from facilitating or transferring funds for any of such games. Online money games are played by depositing money in expectation of winning monetary and other rewards. The bill proposes that any person offering an online money gaming service in violation of the stipulated provisions will face imprisonment of up to three years or a fine that may extend to ₹ 1 crore or both. 1 crore or both. The provisions also stipulate imprisonment of up to two years and or a fine of up to ₹ 50 lakh, or both, for those indulging in advertisements in contravention of rules.
