Liu Xing's Mainland China-Hong Kong drama-romance 'Say My Name' won three prizes. Picking up two prizes each were Gong Yiwen's Mainland China drama 'Her First Taste,' Zheng Lu Xinyuan's Hong Kong-Mainland China drama 'A Stranger at My Door' and Hee Young Pyun and Jiajun 'Oscar' Zhang's South Korea-U.S. drama-suspense film 'Seoulers.'
In his opening remarks, Dr. Wilfred Wong, chair of the Hong Kong Film Development Council, hailed the packed attendance at this year's market. 'The 2025 HKIFF industry project market, is an expanded version and a special edition that focused on teamwork and new ideas. Over the past three days, we have held over 1200 meetings connecting creators and field professionals across all genre, from action and science fiction to animation. This is an incredible achievement, because out of 400 submissions across 45 countries and regions, we have selected 48 projects that demonstrates bold creativity and skills,' Wong said.
'We're extremely excited this year to have introduced the new animation section. In response to the growing interest in this area. We are also proud that we have introduced and showcased two Indonesian films with the partnership of the Jakarta Film Week, highlighting the rising influence of Indonesian film in a cinematic landscape,' Wong added.
In all, 24 awards worth $250,000 were distributed.
Network of Asian Fantastic Films Award, which wins a trip to Bucheon for the festival. '2181 Overture' by Wang Kunlin.
Udine Focus Asia Award, where the winner gets invited to Udine to participate in Focus Asia.'Seoulers' by Hee Young Pyun and Jiajun 'Oscar' Zhang.
HKIFF China Genre Initiative Award carrying an in-kind prize worth HK$300,000 ($38,600) and mentorship. 'Seoulers.'
Aputure Award, carrying an inkind prize of HK$300,000 ($38,600. 'A Stranger at My Door' by Zheng Lu Xinyuan.
La Fonte Award, a prize including cash and in-kind worth HK$100,000 ($12,800). 'Dead Tide,' by Kethsvin Chee.
Taipei Film Commission Award, prize of HK$50,000 ($6,400). 'Indigo Boy,' by Bill Chia.
HAF x CNC Award, a new award with a cash prize of €10,000 ($10,900). 'A Stranger at My Door.'
Maxtimes Pictures Award, a new award with a cash prize of HK$100,000 ($12,800). 'Innocent Flesh' by Lin Yihan.
Under the HAF Goes to Cannes program, five work-in-progress projects are selected to attend the Cannes market. This year they are 'Her First Taste,' Reza Rehadian's 'Pangku,' 'Say My Name,' Tribeni Rai's 'Shape of Momo' and Sakamoto Yukari's 'White Flowers and Fruits.'
AimMedia Potential Award where the winner receives a cash award of HK$100,000 ($12,800). 'Min' by Li Jiajia.
Sky Animation Award where the winner receives a cash award of HK$100,000 ($12,800). 'A Mighty Adventure' by Toe Yuen.
Pica Pica Media Post-Production Award carrying an in-kind prize of $30,000. 'A Woman Builds' by Huang Ji and Otsuka Ryuji.
White Light Post-Production Award offering post-production services in Bangkok worth $15,000 each for an in-development project and a work-in-progress project. This year the award went to 'Yellow' by Yamaura Miyoh and 'Say My Name.'
Red Sea Fund Award, another new award, comes with a cash prize of $5000 for an in-development project and $10,000 for a work-in-progress project. This year it was won by 'Besik. Homecoming' by Iskandar Usmonov and 'Name and Hair' by Li Jing.
IDP Awards for one Hong Kong and one non-Hong Kong project with cash prizes of HK$100,000 ($12,800) each. 'Drive South Pray West by Penu Aree and Kong Rithdee and 'Waves Under the Sea' byu Chan Sileong.
WIP Awards for one Hong Kong and one non-Hong Kong project with cash prizes of HK$100,000 ($12,800) each. 'Her First Taste' and 'Say My Name.'

Guillermo del Toro Explains Why His Frankenstein's Monster Looks So Unique
Clearly, we're all very, very excited about Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, which is coming to theaters on October 17 before arriving on Netflix on November 7. That's because it's del Toro, one of our most beloved filmmakers; his cast is incredible; and there has rarely been a better pairing of filmmaker and subject matter. One other thing has us hyped up too, and that's Frankenstein's monster. Del Toro loves a monster and, in a new interview, he talks about how he approached his monster differently, both visually and in his on-screen creation. 'Ever since I started drawing the creature in the late '70s and early '80s, I knew I didn't want symmetric scars and I didn't want sutures or clamps,' del Toro said to Variety. 'What I thought was very interesting was to make him like a jigsaw puzzle. I wanted him to look beautiful, like a newborn thing, because a lot of times, Frankenstein steps into the frame and he looks like an accident victim. But Victor is as much an artist as he is a surgeon, so the cuts had to make aesthetic sense. I always thought about him as made of alabaster. I never understood something about the other versions: why does Victor use so many pieces from so many bodies? Why doesn't he just resurrect a guy who had a heart attack? And the answer for me was, what if the bodies come from a battlefield? Then he needs to find a way to bring the corpses together in a harmonious way.' What does that all mean? We aren't quite sure, but it sounds absolutely fascinating. Equally fascinating is del Toro talking about his choice to actually show Dr. Frankenstein make the creature. 'Almost nobody shows the creation of the monster,' he said. 'Everybody shows thunder, and the monster is already put together. And I thought, if you are following a rock star, you want to shoot the concert. So instead of making it horrible that he is putting all these things together from bodies, I made it into a waltz. I made it into a joyous fun, sort of crazy concert. He's running around the lab, putting this body together, grabbing this part and placing it together here or there.' Look, if the image of Oscar Isaac in posh Victorian-era clothes dancing around a lab creating an alabaster monster out of dead bodies doesn't do it for you, why are you reading this website? Frankenstein will have 'the biggest theatrical release that Netflix gives its films,' according to del Toro, starting on October 17. It'll be in theaters for at least three weeks and, eventually, will even get a physical media release. But, for most people, they'll see it on Netflix starting November 7. ‘Dawson's Creek' Reunion: News, Cast, Premiere Date, Tickets
Forget about Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson reuniting onscreen next year in Happy Hours—fans of Dawson's Creek are about to get an even bigger treat this fall! A Dawson's Creek reunion is officially happening in September, and we've got all the details. The news was confirmed after several cast members—including James Van Der Beek and Busy Phillips—posted a teaser image on Instagram. The teaser post features a polaroid of the core four cast—James, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, and Michelle Williams—on an orange background with the quote, 'If we were truly meant to be, then we'll find a way back to each other.' Not long after James' original post, the reunion was officially confirmed, and it sounds like something true fans don't want to miss. Here's everything we know: The reunion event is doubling as a charity event to support F Cancer, as well as James himself, who was diagnosed with colorectal cancer last year. Taking place at the Richard Rogers Theater on Broadway, the 'Class Reunion' will be a live reading of the Dawson's Creek pilot, as directed by Jason Moore, who directed three episodes of the show back in the early aughts. The live reading will also be produced by Carl Ogawa, Maggie Brohn, series creator Kevin Williamson and writer Greg Berlanti, as well as Michelle Williams and her husband, Thomas Kail. 'We grew up in Capeside and that's a bond that will last a lifetime,' Michelle said in a statement, per Variety. 'We wanted to gather around our dear friend James and remind him that we are all here. We always have been and we always will be. And I know the fans of Dawson's Creek feel the same way.' James, Michelle, Katie, Joshua, and Busy are all set to attend and reprise their roles in the live reading. Meanwhile, Busy, Kerr Smith, and Meredith Monroe (all of whom did not appear in the pilot) will read various parts. Dakota Johnson and ‘Splitsville' Co-Stars on Playing ‘Unhappy' Characters, Open Relationships and a Possibly Fake Penis
'Splitsville' may be a rom-com, but Dakota Johnson's character Julie doesn't take part in much of the movie's comedy. 'I liked playing a really sort of unhappy woman,' Johnson told me Tuesday at the film's premiere at AMC the Grove in Los Angeles. Their lives begin to unravel when Ashley and Carey breakup and it's revealed that Julie and Paul have an open relationship. 'I just love this tone of film,' Johnson said. 'I love Mike and Kyle's comedy, the way they write, the way they work together. I think the subject matter [open relationships] is really interesting and controversial, and I think people are very curious about it.' The cast also includes Nicholas Braun, David Castañeda, Charlie Gillespie, Simon Webster, Stephen Adekolu, Tyrone Benskin and O-T Fagbenle. Marvin and Covino penned the script, and Johnson served as a producer with her TeaTime Pictures co-founder Ro Donnelly. 'Succession' star Braun makes a cameo in 'Splitsville' as a mentalist performing at a children's birthday party. He said the movie had him thinking about open relationships. 'I can't do an open marriage or open relationship,' Braun said. 'I'm too sensitive for that, too jealous. I mean, it's brutal what happens to them in this movie and they're cool about it sort of — but also not. But I couldn't tolerate that. It would be torture. And it feels mean…It's complicated.' The Covino-directed ensemble received a six-minute standing ovation at its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Ahead of its debut in Cannes' Premiere section, 'Splitsville' was acquired by Neon. In one much buzzed about scene, Paul and Carey get into a hilarious and what seems like never-ending fight which results in destroyed walls, furniture and more in Paul and Julie's gorgeous modern lakefront home. The first half of the brawl, on the first floor of the house, was done in one take seven times. 'It was an actual house and we destroyed it,' Marvin told me. 'Everyone was just patching up and trying to figure it [out]…and then we went right away and just beat each other up.' Covino added, 'We destroyed one house multiple times, so technically two or three houses. It was heavily choreographed and heavily rehearsed. After a long day of scouting and prepping, we would go to a bouldering gym where they had deep mats that we could fall on and just throw each other around.' Carey's penis is also seen a couple of times in the movie, most notably during an incident in the opening sequence. Marvin and Covino playfully declined to say if they used a prosthetic. 'No comment,' Marvin said, laughing. 'I think people are going to have to go look and see for themselves and make a choice.' Johnson's starring role in 'Splitsville' follows the recent success of 'Materialists,' her Celine Song rom-com with Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans that has earned more $75 million worldwide at the box office. Johnson said, 'I think rom-coms are an incredible genre, so I'm glad that we are having some success.' 'Splitsville' is in select theaters Aug. 22 and everywhere Sept. 5.
