Ukraine's drones target Moscow, other regions, Russia's defence ministry says
Russian air defence units destroyed 122 Ukrainian drones overnight that targeted the capital Moscow and scores of other Russian regions, injuring at least one person, Russian authorities said on Thursday.
More than half of the drones were destroyed over the Belgorod, Kursk and Bryansk regions that border Ukraine, the Russian defence ministry said on the Telegram messaging app. Three drones were destroyed over the Moscow region, it added.
One person was lightly injured and a civilian facility sustained minor damage in the Smolensk region that borders Belarus, regional Governor Vasily Anokhin, said on Telegram.
A Ukrainian drone attack on Wednesday killed three people and injured at least 17 others in the Belgorod region, regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said.
Reuters could not independently verify the reports. There was no immediate comment from Ukraine.
Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of targeting civilians, something both sides deny, in the course of the war, now well into its fourth year. REUTERS

SINGAPORE - An 82-year-old Australian man was arrested for allegedly stealing two boxes of perfumes at Changi Airport Terminal 1 . In a statement on Aug 1 , the police said they were alerted to a case of shop theft at about 9.30am on M arch 18 in the airport terminal's transit area. A box of perfume valued at $149 was found to be missing from a display shelf at The Shilla Cosmetics and Perfumes o utlet. Officers from the Airport Police Division were able to identify the man through closed-circuit television footage. He was seen allegedly leaving the store with the unpaid item earlier on March 18, though he had already left Singapore. Investigations found that that the man had also allegedly taken an other box of the same perfume from the same outlet , without paying for it, on March 13 . He had also left Singapore on that occasion. The man was arrested on July 24 when he was in Changi Airport while in transit for another flight. He is slated to be charged on Aug 4 . In their statement, the police said that they take a serious view of shop theft cases, and offenders should not think that they can evade capture by quickly boarding an outbound flight.

President Tayyip Erdogan met Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah to discuss migration and other potential cooperation areas. "Erdogan pointed to the importance of the cooperation between the three countries against the tests that the Mediterranean basin is facing, including irregular migration flows," the presidency said in a statement. He added that "long-term and sustainable solutions" were needed to stop such migration flows, and that a multilateral coordination was needed to achieve this, it said. Major energy exporter Libya, long split between rival eastern and western factions, is one of the main jumping off points for migrants crossing the Mediterranean from North Africa. Rival regional powers - Russia, Turkey, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates - have also been drawn into its political divisions. NATO member Turkey has militarily and politically supported Libya's Tripoli-based internationally-recognised government. NATO allies Turkey and Italy meanwhile have strong ties, and have pledged to boost cooperation in the defence industry, while also increasing their reciprocal trade. Italy's Leonardo and Turkey's Baykar announced in March that they were setting up a joint venture to produce unmanned aerial vehicles, while Ankara has been inching closer to securing a procurement of 40 Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets from a consortium that includes Italy. Spain airdrops 12 tonnes of food aid over Gaza

The mission deployed 24 parachutes, each capable of carrying 500kg of food, for a total of 12 tonnes – enough for 11,000 people, said Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares. Spain also has aid waiting to cross into Gaza by road from Egypt, the minister added in a video message posted on social network X, along with a video of the operation. 'The induced famine that the people of Gaza are suffering is a disgrace to all of humanity,' Mr Albares said. 'Israel must open all land crossings permanently so that humanitarian aid can enter on a massive scale.' Spain joins other Western countries, including Britain and France, that have recently partnered with Middle Eastern nations to deliver humanitarian supplies by air to the Palestinian enclave.
