Sydney Sweeney Boards Adaptation Of 2025's Potential GOTY, ‘Split/Fiction'

Things either move very fast or very slow in Hollywood, and while it may take a decade to get an Uncharted movie made, it has taken less than two months for 2025's Split/Fiction to land a huge star and huge director for its movie adaptation.
One the most popular names in Hollywood right now, if not the most, would be Sydney Sweeney who is now on board the Split/Fiction movie as one of the two leads, though it's not confirmed which one that will be yet (I mean, the blonde one, probably). This is a month after it was reported she was 'circling' starring in a Gundam move, but the Split/Fiction outing seems like a done deal. Oh, and Sweeney was just said to be attached to another game adaptation, producing an OutRun movie directed by Michael Bay about an old, relatively obscure racing game. It hasn't been said that she'll star, however.

But just as impressive as Sweeney starring is the fact that the movie will be directed by Jon M. Chu of Crazy Rich Asians and Wicked fame, where this seems like it would probably be his next movie after Wicked Part 2 was released.
Why is this movie getting so much attention, and a movie spooling up this quickly? Well its studio, Hazelight, won Game of the Year in 2021 for It Takes Two, a co-operative story game. Split/Fiction is another co-operative story game, and is currently tied with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as the best-reviewed game of 2025 with a 92 Metascore, putting it easily in GOTY contention. Clair Obscur is tough competition and Grand Theft Auto 6 may come out this year, but it's not impossible it could win, and these reviews have been stellar.
It's no secret that Hollywood has been jumping on video games left and right for movie or show adaptations with massive hits like Fallout, The Last of Us, The Super Mario Bros. Movie and now Minecraft. Split/Fiction may not be as high profile as those, but if you've played the game, which blends sci-fi and fantasy worlds in an awesome way, you can see how it would make a good film. You can also see how it would probably make a very, very expensive film.
There's no release date for this as this is all still coming together. But with a big star and director, this is going to speed along pretty quickly, it seems.

Such are the questions at the center of the highly-anticipated Apple Original Film 'Echo Valley,' directed by 'Beast' and 'Encounter' filmmaker Michael Pearce and written by 'Mare of Easttown' scribe Brad Inglesby. Sweeney stars as Claire, the troubled daughter of Kate (Moore), who shows up on her doorstep covered in someone else's blood. 'As Kate pieces together the shocking truth of what happened, she learns just how far a mother will go to try to save her child in this gripping tale of love, sacrifice and survival,' the logline reads. The film is set on the secluded Echo Valley Farm in Pennsylvania, with the tagline teasing that the feature is a 'heart-pounding thriller about just how far a mother will go to save her child.' 'Echo Valley' is produced by Ridley Scott's Scott Free Films and The Walsh Company, with Michael Pruss, Ingelsby, and Kevin Walsh for The Walsh Company under his multi-year Apple TV+ producing deal. Pruss and Ingelsby developed the script together. The film will be executive produced by Scott Greenberg, Scott Free's Rebecca Feuer, and Nicole Jordan-Webber. Erika Olde and Sam Roseme will also executive produce through Black Bicycle Entertainment. Tanja Tawadjoh will co-produce. Sweeney told Vanity Fair that she watched hundreds of YouTube videos of addicts interviewed on Los Angeles' Skid Row to prepare to play Claire. She also drew from personal encounters with addicts as well. 'I've had a lot of family members deal with addiction and then struggle with similar issues as Claire and her friends, and her group that she hangs out with,' Sweeney said. 'I've kind of had firsthand experience with it. I mean, there's a manipulation underneath a lot of it. But when there was love in the air in the room, you truly still felt it. The person that they are at the core, as buried as they might be, is still there.' Director Pearce credited Sweeney for going all out for the role, saying, 'It's kind of spooky how quickly she can get to a very raw emotional place when you call 'action,' and she's just straight away exactly where the character needs to be. Which is often a very place of extreme emotional duress. Then you'd call cut and maybe change your lens, and she's very light. You'd call 'action' again, and she's straight there in a matter of seconds.' Pearce continued, 'The way that she was screaming at Julianne, I thought she was going to burst her eardrum. It was so intense. But as soon as we called 'cut,' they were just laughing. They were just so happy to get their teeth stuck into such a meaty scene.' And co-lead Moore hinted at just how twisted the film is: 'These are my favorite kinds of movies: movies about relationships,' Moore said. 'What will people do for one another? What kind of decisions do you make? How far will you go? I'm kind of curious what the reaction will be,' she says. 'There will be a sense, certainly, among parents going, like, 'well, would I do that? How far would I go?' You're left with those questions.' 'Echo Valley' premieres June 13 on Apple TV+. Fortnite's Tim Sweeney Says 10 People Can Write ‘Breath Of Wild' With AI Soon
Breath of the Wild Nintendo Many gamers recently celebrated alongside Tim Sweeney as he and Epic claimed victory over Apple in a series of significant rulings meant to reduce the tech giant's ability to universally scoop up 30% of revenue from releases on its platform. But now? Sweeney is running in a new direction, full-steam toward the integration of AI into video games at a creative level, running afoul of many fans and developers alike. Fortnite has recently run an experiment with a (licensed) AI Darth Vader that responds in real-time to player voice chat. That has led to thousands of funny clips and huge player engagement, enough to be considered a big success. So Epic is barreling forward with more AI characters and other elements to come. Darth Vader Loserfruit Sweeney is a big driver of this, and his views on AI in game development are some of the most extreme in the industry in terms of embracing the technology, as he recently demonstrated when speaking to IGN at Epic's State of Unreal 2025 event. He talked about how AI was just another significant advance in technology, the type that gaming had embraced for years from 3D gaming to hardware and engines supporting hundreds of players for games like Fortnite. He says AI can produce branching dialogue that writers could never envision, but his most controversial comment would be the following: The idea that an entire team of Nintendo developers working for years to make GOTY winner Breath of the Wild could be replaced by a tiny team using AI sounds ridiculous on its face. Sweeney seems to be focused mainly on writing, but he doesn't expand on the implications of how that affects story. As in, you talk a character into switching sides in a conflict, opening up a new set of missions that were never meant to exist. How does that work? Perhaps the idea is that AI will just generate that too. Fallout 76 Bethesda Is his position actually unpopular? There seem to be four sides in this conversation: 1) Executives who see AI as the next big thing and will embrace and push it however they can, hopefully to lower costs, if nothing else. 2) Players who do not care about any of this and just want to make funny jokes with AI Darth Vader 3) Players who react to AI like touching a stove and want nothing to do with generative AI in their games, whether it's in writing, art, level-building, any of it. 4) The developers who do not want to lose their jobs as writers, artists and level-builders to AI, which they believe will make an inferior product and one based on their own stolen work. What will happen from here? This doesn't feel like the metaverse or the blockchain or VR pushes from before. AI is here and legitimately changing enormous industries and evolving at such a clip that it's impossible to say what happens from here.
