He added: 'If you also have teams, if you just take Brentford, that have developed dramatically. Even Brighton, who were able to invest 300 million.
"They were also in the Championship five or six years ago. But making that leap will be the challenge for all newly promoted teams.

Former Hearts player seals summer transfer as ex Jambos stars signs him up

Ross County have been relegated to the Championship after a play off final defeat to Livingston last month and are rebuilding for life back in the second tier. They don't appear keen to dwell in that realm for too long though with a move for ex Scotland centre back Declan Gallagher, who was a regular for Dundee United in the Premiership last term. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad They have now moved to sign ex Hearts star Gary Mackay Steven on a one year deal. The attacker known for his skilful style of play returns to the club he featured for at academy level before heading south with Liverpool, having been with Kilmarnock in the 24/25 campaign. Former Hearts star signed by ex Jambo After time in Merseyside and briefly with Fulham in his youth, he returned to Scotland with Airdrie before making his name at Dundee United over a four year stretch. That earned a move to Celtic where he spent a couple of years before moving on to Aberdeen then New York City FC in the MLS. His spell at Hearts followed that, where he helped the club out of the Championship and made 64 appearances overall with eight goals and the same number of assists. Mackay-Steven has been signed by another former Hearts man in Don Cowie, remaining as County's boss after relegation, who said: 'Gary is another great addition to the group as he makes his return to the club. He offers us good experience in the wide area of the pitch and we are delighted he has chosen to head back up North for the next chapter of his career.' Cost of Premiership relegation Chief executive Steven Ferguson detailed to BBC Scotland how difficult relegation would be for Ross County. He said: "There's no excuses from anybody at Ross County – we fell short. But it's a collective we. It doesn't just fall on the manager, it doesn't just fall on the players, we need to look at the whole club and everybody that's involved and we need to take responsibility for it and we will do that. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad "First and foremost we'll need to look at the playing squad and guys that are out of contract will need to be spoken to so they know exactly where they stand. We have underachieved this season and that's not something that happens too often. In my time at Ross County we've always managed to get to where we want to be. We'll look at it, honestly appraise it, see how we can pick the bones out of it and move forward. 'We aren't a big staff up here. Everybody feels it and it has a ripple effect. What we need to realise as well is that it's not just on the pitch. To not have any representation for this area has a real knock-on effect for everybody, not just the supporters, but the local business and the revenue that comes into the Highlands because of Premiership football."

Benjamin Sesko's manager tells him to reject one club after Arsenal and Man Utd
Arsenal are battling it out with A-Hilal to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko (Picture: Getty) Slovenia head coach Matjaz Kek has advised Benjamin Sesko to ignore interest from the Saudi Pro League and make a 'smart' decision over his future this summer. Arsenal are on the hunt for a high-class centre-forward and have identified RB Leipzig attacker Sesko as a possible solution up front on the back of another trophyless season, along with Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres. RB Leipzig are open to offers for their star striker as they look to make up for the financial loss of missing out on Champions League qualification and the Bundesliga club have been in talks with the Gunners since last month. It's understood Manchester United have also held discussions over a move for Sesko following a disappointing campaign for both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee. Reports on Monday claimed Arsenal and RB Leipzig had hit a roadblock in their transfer negotiations, with the north Londoners told to cough up £70million or walk away from a deal for the 22-year-old Slovenia international. The news that Saudi outfit A-Hilal have joined the race for Sesko's signature has only complicated matters for Arsenal, even though the playerhimself would ideally prefer to remain in European football. A-Hilal are intent on making a marquee signing having appointed Simone Inzaghi their new manager last week – and have also explored bids for Victor Osimhen and Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes this summer. Kek (middle) hopes Sesko stays in European football (Picture: Getty) Sesko missed Slovenia's victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina (Picture: Getty) Facing the media after Slovenia's 2-1 defeat of Bosnia and Herzegovina,Kek did his best to warn Sesko over a proposed move to Saudi Arabia at this stage of his career. 'Benjamin Sesko and Saudi Arabia? I would advise him to never go there, at least not at his age,' the Slovenia boss told reporters. While Kek enjoyed his brief spell managing Al-Ittihad, he is convinced Sesko should only have eyes for Europe's top clubs. On the interest Sesko has attracted from the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, AC Milan and Juventus, Kek said: 'This is a great recognition, these are clubs that mean a lot. RB Leipzig are holding out for a fee of £70m for the Slovenian (Picture: Getty) 'It's not that I underestimate the Saudi Pro League. On the contrary, I worked there at Al-Ittihad and the club is still a part of me. 'I also watch the league regularly… but the time will come for Benjamin Sesko for that. 'I am convinced that Benjamin himself and the people who care for him will be smart enough to make the right solution. More Trending 'That means going somewhere where he can play football because that is the only way he can be happy.' Sesko was named in Slovenia's squad for the side's friendly matches against Luxembourg and Bosnia and Herzegovina this month. However, the former Red Bull Salzburg man played no part in either clash to avoid the risk of injury, with transfer talks ongoing behind the scenes. Sesko has scored 39 goals in 87 games for RB Leipzig and is tied into a contract at Red Bull Arena until June 2029. Wrexham plot transfer for captain who showed his true colours in clash with manager
Wrexham plot transfer for captain who showed his true colours in clash with manager Wrexham have been linked with a move for the captain of one of their Championship rivals, who has just one year remaining on his contract and is yet to agree an extension Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's Wrexham are reported to be interested in signing Lewis Travis (Image: Robbie Jay Barratt - AMA/Getty Images ) Wrexham are rumoured to be considering a substantial offer for the skipper of one of their Championship competitors. The Red Dragons are reportedly among several clubs showing interest in Blackburn Rovers' Lewis Travis. The midfielder's contract at Ewood Park is set to expire in a year, and there have been no discussions about renewing his terms. Following their promotion from League One in April, Wrexham have now shown interest in acquiring his services, according to the Lancashire Telegraph. It's suggested that the 27-year-old could cost the Welsh club, co-owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, around £2million. The sum matches the record fee they paid to bring striker Sam Smith from Reading in January. Travis is believed to be one of Rovers' highest earners, but Wrexham are reportedly prepared to offer him an even more lucrative salary. Securing the Liverpool academy graduate would be a significant show of ambition from Reynolds and McElhenney, who have made their Premier League aspirations clear. The tenacious midfielder has clocked up over 260 appearances for Blackburn since signing his first professional contract with the club in January 2017. Despite some challenges, Travis has largely been a consistent presence in the team. One of the most difficult times for Travis at Rovers was after Jon Dahl Tomasson took over as head coach in June 2022. Initially, their relationship was positive, with Tomasson giving Travis the captain's armband soon after his appointment. However, as the 2023/24 season unfolded, Travis found game time hard to come by, leading to a loan move to Ipswich Town in January 2024. Tomasson, the former Newcastle and AC Milan forward, suggested that Travis's desire to play in a different position was the catalyst for the loan. But Travis contested this explanation, labelling the Danish coach's remarks as "unfair" and showing a willingness to defend his stance. Speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire, he said: "I found it very unfair how himself and (former director of football) Gregg Broughton came out and said I wanted to leave because I wasn't playing in the right position. I think it was a bit tough and hard to hear for him to come out and say that without me being allowed to say anything." Travis played a role in Ipswich Town's rise to the Premier League in 2024, marking their first promotion to the top flight in 22 years. Following the achievement, he returned to Blackburn that summer, following Tomasson's departure from the club by mutual agreement and subsequent appointment as the Swedish national team manager. Since his return, Travis has reasserted his importance within the Rovers' midfield, featuring in 38 matches during their latest Championship season. Besides Wrexham, Sheffield United are also rumoured to be monitoring Travis' situation, having previously shown interest in acquiring him last summer.
