Jewellery worth Rs50L stolen from locked house in Kolhapur's New Shahupuri area
K olhapur: Gold jewellery valued at Rs50 lakh were stolen from the home of the head of the medicine department at the state-run Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj Government Medical College. The theft, which occurred at the family's residence in Anant Paradise in New Shahupuri, was discovered by the domestic help on Monday evening. She found the apartment door open and alerted the family. Upon the family's return, the complainant, 57-year-old Anita Paritekar, found the bedroom lock broken, compartments open, and belongings scattered. Paritekar told police that the jewellery was being saved for her son's marriage. A complaint has been filed with the Shahupuri police, and the local crime branch is investigating the case. Santosh Doke, police inspector of Shahupuri Police Station, said, "We are tracing the suspects and soon we will be catching hold of them. There were no functional CCTV cameras inside the building. The doctor told us that the family bought some CCTV cameras some days ago, but due to their busy schedule, they could not install them." Interestingly, Paritekar found that her silver jewellery items were intact and not stolen, while only the gems and gold ornaments, along with Rs25,000 cash, were taken away. The couple has a son and a married daughter. They have a granddaughter, and the couple was planning to save some of their investment in gold for the future of their granddaughter as well. Teen raped, killed by cousin hrs after she tied rakhi to him
1 2 Kanpur: A 33-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for the alleged rape and murder of his 14-year-old cousin, hours after she had tied a rakhi on him, in Auraiya. The accused, Surjeet, visited his uncle's home on Rakshabandhan on Saturday morning, where his cousin tied a rakhi on him. Police said later that night, after drinking heavily, he raped and murdered her and staged the scene to look like a suicide by hanging her body The girl's father, who was sleeping in another room, found his daughter's body the next day and informed the police. Police concluded it was not a suicide after finding bloodstains in the house. They questioned family members and noticed Surjeet's constant presence. During questioning, he often spoke for other family members. The following day, as police continued their investigation, Surjeet attempted to mislead them. His behaviour raised suspicion as he hindered family members from answering questions. Surjeet was detained and confessed to the crime during interrogation. Auraiya SP Abhijeet Shankar said rape was confirmed in the postmortem report. "Additionally, hair was found in the teenager's nails and hand. Samples from the suspect's hair have been collected for comparison and sent to the forensic science lab in Jhansi. A DNA test will also be conducted," the SP added. ‘Overdosed': Missing Ludhiana teenager found dead, family blames drug peddlers.
Ludhiana: A 19-year-old missing since Aug 11 was found dead on Tuesday evening in an abandoned indoor stadium near Gujjarwal village, sparking protests from locals who alleged murder by drug peddlers. The victim, Taranpreet Singh, was last seen with four men, two of whom — Manpreet Singh 'Mani' and Jagtar Singh 'Tari' — have been arrested. Two others remain on the run. Police claim that preliminary evidence points to a drug overdose, not foul play. The family, supported by village leaders, accused the suspects of long-running drug trafficking and said prior complaints were ignored. They threatened to escalate protests during Independence Day events. Police have booked the accused under culpable homicide not amounting to murder and are searching for the remaining suspects.
