Italy make five changes for second test against Springboks
Fullback Mirko Belloni will make a first start for Italy as one of five changes to their side for the second test against South Africa in Gqeberha on Saturday, but number eight Lorenzo Cannone has been ruled out with a back injury.
The inexperienced Italy side lost the first test in Pretoria 42-24, but put in an excellent second half showing against the world champions having trailed 28-3 at the break and were in contention going into the final 10 minutes.
Belloni forms a back three with wings Jacopo Trulla and Louis Lynagh, while Marco Zanon and Tommaso Menoncello are the centre-pairing. Giacomo Da Re keeps his place at flyhalf, alongside number 9 Alessandro Garbisi.
Hooker Tommaso Di Bartolomeo packs down in the front row with props Danilo Fischetti and Simone Ferrari either side of him, while captain Niccolo Cannone and Andrea Zambonin are the lock pairing.
South African born Ross Vintcent moves from the flank to the number eight jersey in the place of Cannone, with Sebastian Negri and Manuel Zuliani the other two loose-forwards.
Zimbabwe-born Negri spent much of his childhood in South Africa too and missed the first test due to injury.
His return is a boost to the engine room and adds experience as the second most capped player (64 appearances) in the team behind Ferrari (65).

The WTA confirmed in January this year it had provisionally suspended Vukov due to a potential breach of its code of conduct, pending the outcome of an investigation. But former Wimbledon champion Rybakina rehired him to her team while she was working with Ivanisevic, sparking concern from the tennis fraternity. "The WTA is fully committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all athletes and other participants, as set out in our WTA code of conduct and safeguarding code," the tour said. "Any sanctions issued following a breach of these safeguarding rules are carefully considered and are subject to appeal before an independent tribunal. "While case details remain confidential, we can confirm that Vukov is eligible to receive credentials at WTA events." The WTA has not said who raised the complaint against Vukov. Vukov, who guided Rybakina to the title at the All England Club in 2022, denies any wrongdoing and told The Athletic he had "never abused anyone" after the outlet first reported about the provisional suspension. World number 10 Rybakina of Kazakhstan has maintained Vukov did not mistreat her and previously said she was not happy with coaches and commentators talking about the situation. REUTERS

WASHINGTON – England's Tommy Fleetwood positioned himself to strike for a first PGA Tour title this weekend, firing a six-under 64 to take a four-shot lead in the weather-hit second round of the St. Jude Championship in Memphis, Tennessee. The Briton used birdie bursts early and late on TPC Southwind to build a 36-hole total of 13-under 127. He had a four-shot lead over overnight leader Akshay Bhatia, Collin Morikawa and Justin Rose when play was suspended for the day because of thunderstorms. Morikawa fired a five-under 65 and was joined in the clubhouse on nine-under 131 by fellow American Bhatia, who posted a 69. Rose was nine-under with two holes remaining when the sudden storm brought the round to a halt, organisers suspending play for the day two hours later. Fleetwood, a seven-time winner on the DP World Tour, has six runner-up finishes on the US tour, including a playoff loss to US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley at the Travelers Championship in June. 'Maybe this weekend is the weekend,' he said. 'It hasn't happened for me yet on the PGA Tour, but I would much rather be up there and not quite get it done than not there at all.' He started the day one shot off the lead and got going early with birdies at the second, third and fourth. He then dropped a 16-foot birdie putt at the 13th to launch a run of four straight birdies, and had plenty of cushion even after a closing bogey at 18. 'Those were two nice runs to get on,' Fleetwood added of his birdie bursts. 'Yesterday I felt like I stayed very patient, and then today after a hot start I wasn't feeling that comfortable with my swing, so actually then to get on a run after that – I hit great shots into 13, 14, I played those holes really, really well, played them perfect.' Two-time Major winner Morikawa climbed the leaderboard with a round highlighted by a hole out for eagle from the fairway at the ninth. For Bhatia, coming off a career-best round of 62, it was a frustrating day. After two birdies and a bogey in the first four holes he made all pars the rest of the way. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, coming off his fourth Major title at the Open Championship at Royal Portrush, was also frustrated on the way to a four-under 66 that featured eight birdies and four bogeys.
