Twins place Royce Lewis on injured list, Byron Buxton leaves game with elbow injury
HOUSTON — The Minnesota Twins placed third baseman Royce Lewis on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left hamstring strain.
Also on Saturday, center fielder Byron Buxton left the game against the Astros in the seventh inning with a bruised left elbow after being hit by a pitch an inning earlier.
Lewis was injured running to first base on a single in the ninth inning of Friday night's 10-3 loss to Houston and had an MRI on Saturday. A team spokesman announced the move during Saturday's game and said they'd have more information after the game.
The injury to Lewis comes after he missed the first 35 games of the season with a moderate strain of the same hamstring that occurred running out a ground ball in spring training.
Lewis, the first overall pick in the 2017 draft, has been plagued by injuries in his career. He played just 82 games last season while missing time with a severe quadriceps strain and a groin injury. Those injuries came after he tore the ACL in his right knee in both 2021 and 2022.
Lewis, who homered Friday night, is hitting .202 with two home runs and nine RBIs in 30 games this season.
Houston starter Hunter Brown plunked Buxton on the left elbow to start the sixth inning. He was looked at by a trainer but remained in the game before being replaced in center field by Harrison Bader in the bottom of the seventh.

"You're not playing for yourself anymore": Astros' Mauricio Dubon reflects on how fatherhood transformed his personality
Image Source: Getty Everything changed for Astros utility man Mauricio Dubón the second he found out he was going to be a father. The 30-year-old has gained new purpose on and off the pitch since the birth of his son Luciano on November 30. No longer is the focus on a tough night at the plate – instead, it's Luciano smiling back at him at home and telling him what's important. Throughout an entire season, Dubón said, 'You're not playing for yourself anymore' . So, imagine a person saying, "You are playing for somebody else." Mauricio Dubón's first Father's Day will be one to remember That is a milestone Dubón is celebrating in a big way. He will wear custom gear for Sunday's game against the Twins at Daikin Park, including a belt and a pair of Air Jordan cleats honoring his family. The belt even has the names of his wife, Nancy, his son Luciano, and his dogs Marcelo and Cash on it. Inside, it's affixed with Luciano's birth certificate footprints, and a sweet Spanish inscription – 'El mejor papi! Te amamos. ' ('The best daddy. We love you.') The right toe of each cleat displays the name of Luciano, the family's dog who died recently, while the left cleat lists the names of Marcelo and Cash. To add some personality, Dubón included a cigar and a glass of Scotch, both of which are part of his off-the-field guilty pleasures on each cleat. Mauricio Dubón says being a dad changed how he plays and how he thinks Fatherhood has brought more than just stylish cleats for Dubón — it's shifted his mindset into playing. Dbacks closer Justin Martinez out for season with UCL sprain
Arizona's pitching staff took another hit as right-handed closer Justin Martinez is done for the season with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, according to reports Friday. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told MLB Network radio Friday that Martinez is still seeking a second opinion on the next steps but said he is expected to miss 12 to 13 months. Earlier this season, Martinez was placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation, but he had returned in what seemed to be full form until Monday's game over the visiting Seattle Mariners. In the eventual 8-4 win, Martinez struck out two and walked one when he suddenly motioned to the trainer in the middle of the next at-bat and left the game, reporting tightness in the right elbow. A subsequent MRI exam revealed the UCL sprain and sent Martinez to the 15-day IL on Tuesday. The Diamondbacks currently have eight pitchers on the IL, including four who are out for the season with UCL injuries: Corbin Burnes, Jordan Montgomery, Blake Walston and now Martinez. Additionally, Martinez's co-closer A.J. Puk was placed on the 60-day injured list on May 1 due to left elbow inflammation and could return in early July. Three others -- Cristian Mena (shoulder), Kendall Graveman (hip), Cristian Montes De Oca (elbow) - have no timetable for a return. Martinez converted to reliever after he returned from Tommy John surgery in 2021. The 23-year-old is 1-2 with five saves and a 4.11 ERA in 17 relief appearances this season. He is 6-8 with 14 saves and a 3.77 ERA in 91 career relief appearances with Arizona. --Field Level Media
