The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, in partnership with the Ministry of Investment, recently hosted a webinar aimed at introducing leading British mining companies to investment opportunities in Saudi Arabia's growing mineral exploration sector.
This initiative is part of the Kingdom's broader strategy to accelerate resource development and attract top-tier global investors. The virtual event drew 70 participants from a wide range of UK-based mining firms, underscoring the increasing interest in Saudi Arabia's evolving mining landscape.
Attendees were presented with details on the 2025 exploration program, which targets high-potential geological zones across the country. Key highlights included Saudi Arabia's streamlined licensing procedures, extensive geological data, and a robust support framework for investors. The session also outlined a suite of incentives designed to facilitate and encourage international investment in the sector.
Central to the discussion was the ministry's plan to offer exploration licenses for mining areas spanning over 50,000 square kilometers in 2025. This major initiative, originally unveiled at the fourth Future Minerals Forum in January 2025, is expected to significantly expand exploration efforts and attract greater foreign investment.
The webinar supports Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts to position mining as a cornerstone of economic diversification under Vision 2030, reinforcing its commitment to unlocking the full potential of the Kingdom's mineral wealth.

Riyadh ranks 23, up 60 places, among top 100 emerging startup ecosystems globally

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Saudi Arabia has made a remarkable achievement in the field of entrepreneurship, with the position of Riyadh, the capital city, advancing 60 places over the past three years, ranking 23rd among the top 100 emerging startup ecosystems globally. This was revealed in the "Global Startup Ecosystem 2025" report issued by Startup Genome, in partnership with the Global Entrepreneurship Network. According to the report, the Kingdom recorded the second-highest performance in the Middle East and North Africa region, ranking third in terms of funding volume and investment value versus impact, while ranking fourth in terms of the availability of skills and expertise, enhancing its ability to attract and retain entrepreneurial talent. The report highlighted the promising sectors that contributed to these results, most notably artificial intelligence, financial technologies, cybersecurity, smart cities, infrastructure, and digital health, which represent key pillars of the Kingdom's economic transformation plans. This great progress reflects the Kingdom's rapid growth in the entrepreneurial ecosystem, particularly in terms of venture capital indicators and the development of the entrepreneurial ecosystem's infrastructure. This is in addition to the rising levels of innovation and investment in emerging technologies. This achievement was made possible mainly because of the support and empowerment provided by government agencies in the Kingdom to investors in the sector, including the efforts of the Small and Medium Enterprises General Authority (Monsha'at) to build an integrated entrepreneurial ecosystem through its initiatives and programs that support the growth and expansion of startups and enhance the legislative and regulatory environment for entrepreneurs. This aims to increase the share of these enterprises in the GDP, in line with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030. The Startup Genome report was based on data analysis of more than 5 million startups across more than 350 global ecosystems, reviewing the most prominent investment trends and policies that stimulate the success of innovation and entrepreneurship at the international level.

US and UK Say They've Cemented a Trade Agreement That Trump Calls Fair for Both Nations

President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Monday that they are signing a trade deal that will slash tariffs on goods from both countries. The deal does not include tariffs on steel–an especially important piece of bilateral trade. Instead, talks are still going on about whether steel tariffs will be cut to zero as planned in the provisional agreement. Trump and Starmer announced in May they'd struck an agreement that would slash US import taxes on British cars, steel, and aluminum in return for greater access to the British market for US products, including beef and ethanol. But it did not immediately take effect, leaving British businesses uncertain about whether the UK could be exposed to any surprise hikes from Trump. British businesses and the UK government were blindsided earlier this month when Trump doubled metals tariffs on countries around the world to 50 percent. He later clarified the level would remain at 25 percent for the UK. Starmer said Monday that the trade agreement is 'in the final stages now of implementation,' and 'I expect that to be completed very soon.' Trump said the deal is 'gonna produce a lot of jobs, a lot of income.'
