Tan90 Thermal Solutions, a Chennai-based deep-tech startup focused on sustainable thermal energy management, has raised INR 20 crore in a Series A funding round led by NABVENTURES.
The round also saw participation from Blue Ashva Capital, Capital-A, and 3i Partners. The fresh infusion of capital follows Tan90's earlier raise of USD 4.6 million from Social Alpha and other investors.
The funds will be strategically deployed to develop new product lines targeted at cold chains, HVAC systems, and data centres. Additionally, Tan90 plans to expand its presence to 10 more Indian cities—particularly Tier-II cities—while establishing a footprint in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
"Cooling infrastructure must be on-demand, scalable, and sustainable, without relying on heavy capital investments or outdated systems," said Soumalya Mukherjee, Co-founder of Tan90. "With this funding, we are accelerating our efforts to expand into new industries and markets and build future-ready cooling solutions. We aim to position India as a centre for innovative thermal management while creating globally relevant cooling ecosystems."
Founded in January 2019 by three PhD graduates—Soumalya Mukherjee, Rajani Kant Rai, and Shiv Sharma—Tan90 Thermal Solutions offers a range of climate-resilient, energy-efficient thermal management products. The company's proprietary Phase Change Materials (PCMs), developed in-house and covering temperatures from –50°C to +80°C, are at the core of its offerings. These PCMs enable passive cooling by storing latent heat, offering longer cycle lives and double the turnaround time compared to existing alternatives.
Tan90's product suite includes:
Phase Change Materials (PCMs): For passive cooling in cold chains, logistics, and data centres.

Tailored cooling systems for varied industrial needs. Cooling-as-a-Service (CaaS): A capital-light service model active in eight cities, with zero customer churn, helping clients in quick commerce, food logistics, and healthcare.
"Tan90 is driving the next phase of thermal innovation with scalable, efficient solutions that align with our mission to enable climate resilience and improve logistics," said Vikas Bhatt, Managing Director, NABVENTURES.
Operating near breakeven and posting over 70% CAGR in the past three years, Tan90 is poised to lead India's charge in building innovative, globally scalable thermal energy ecosystems.

Expat reveals astounding detail on street of city with '30 million people'
When visiting any city with a large population, most travellers would expect to jump off public transport and instantly be hit with a barrage of sights and sounds. However, one US expat living in China has revealed the incredible – and quite different – reality emerging in the county while on a recent visit to a neighbouring city. US citizen Garrett took a trip to the city of Suzhou, about an hour from his home in Shanghai. Arriving there, he was left astounded while standing beside the road because, despite cars and motorbikes zooming past, there was virtually no traffic noise. "Quite a busy intersection but super quiet," he told Yahoo News of the surprising moment, which highlights just how successful the uptake of electric vehicles has been in the Asian economic powerhouse. "The silence on the streets is fantastic; even in a city of 30 million people, the streets are incredibly calm," he said. For Garrett, he's seen firsthand that it's hard for Westerners to understand why this has happened. "As I have seen in China, sustainability isn't political at all; it's a widely acknowledged necessity for the planet and for economics," he said, explaining that EV-driving "isn't cool, it's just normal". In 2024, China sold nearly 13 million fully electric and hybrid vehicles, meaning EVs accounted for 40 per cent of total sales in the Chinese market. The number of sales is four times as many as the United States. In Australia, that figure was just 114,000 in the same time frame, according to the Electric Vehicle Council. Australians are continuing to buy more electric vehicles than ever before, according to recent sales records. But traditional brands like Toyota and Ford still dominate new car sales, with Toyota topping the charts for an incredible 23 years. 🚙 Drivers 'completely unaware' of little-known road rule attracting $6,000 fines 🔌 Hundreds of Teslas in Aussie car park exposes grim truth for Elon Musk 🔋 Solution to hazardous electric vehicle 'problem' in major Aussie city Garrett said his Chinese colleagues are more surprised to hear that someone doesn't drive an EV. "Many of my colleagues have EVs, and when I pointed that out, they responded with 'oh, yeah, don't you drive one?'," he said. "In my view, I think it's because people don't seem to politicise sustainability." This was laid bare as US President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk exchanged in a very public back-and-forth earlier this week, signalling their relationship may well be over. The Tesla boss criticised the president's 'Big Beautiful Bill' aimed to fast-track policy around spending, revenue and the debt ceiling, which would see electric vehicle subsidies scrapped in the US. "I don't believe America will get to the level China is at ever without significant political change," Garrett said. "And as America is a very individualistic culture, it will be very hard to sell the public on the benefit to the greater society. Most people I know in China just say 'Well, driving EVs is better for everyone and the government supports that'." China is leading the way with EV uptake largely due to government support through subsidies and tax breaks. Licence plates for regular cars with internal combustion engines face long waits and high costs to get the plates, but for EVs it's free. Homegrown support has helped Chinese automakers expand across the world, with countless new models hitting the market in Australia and worldwide seemingly every month. BYD took the world by storm when photos of its fleet of car carriers recently emerged. The brand, commonly seen on Aussie roads, is moving with "unprecedented speed" to overtake US rival Tesla as the global leader in electric vehicles. Car expert Paul Maric recently returned from the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, where Chinese car brands displayed their latest innovations. "China is on another level entirely," he told Yahoo News recently. "Anyone in Australia who thinks they're just going to go away sometime soon is in for a shock. "I think eventually it will just lead to cars becoming more affordable," he said of the growing expansion of the Chinese industry. Do you have a story tip? Birla Estates, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aditya Birla Real Estate, has secured an equity investment of approximately INR 420 crore (USD 50 million) from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, for two of its residential projects in Pune and Thane. The investment was announced via an official statement on 9 June. The funding will be channelled through two special purpose vehicles (SPVs) established specifically for the projects. IFC will invest around INR 148 crore in the Manjri project on the south-eastern outskirts of Pune, which is expected to offer a saleable area of roughly 3.13 million square feet. An additional INR 272 crore will be allocated to the Thane project, which has a larger saleable area of approximately 6.43 million square feet. The Thane land parcel was previously acquired from Hindalco Industries, another group company under the Aditya Birla Group. Birla Estates will retain a 56 per cent economic interest in each SPV, while IFC will hold the remaining share. "This investment validates our development philosophy and strengthens our ability to scale responsibly. With IFC's global expertise in sustainable investments and our deep-rooted market insights, we aim to set new benchmarks in Indian real estate," said KT Jithendran, Managing Director and CEO, Birla Estates. IFC emphasised the significance of the investment in addressing India's urban housing challenge. "Our partnership with Birla Estates will bridge the gap in India's housing sector by expanding availability of and access to sustainable, high-quality housing for the country's growing population, with a focus on first-time homeowners," said Imad N Fakhoury, Regional Director for South Asia at IFC. This is not Birla Estates' first strategic international partnership. In January 2025, the company signed a project-level equity deal worth INR 560 crore with Japanese conglomerate Mitsubishi Group, through Mitsubishi Estate, for a residential development in Bengaluru.
