Money expert explains how to turn £25 a week into £1,300 'without lifting a finger'

We all know how important it is to have savings, but sometimes it can be tricky to know where to start - however Tynah Matembe, founder of Money Matix has shared her advice for those looking to make their money work harder Think saving's just for rich people or money nerds? Think again. Even chucking a tenner a week into a savings account can snowball into something serious. It's not about how much – it's about how often. Consistency is king. ‌ Here's the deal: banks love regular savers, and there are easy ways to save without even knowing. One of the best ways is to simply set up a standing order, and suddenly you're eligible for the top interest rates. ‌ We're talking juicy deals that beat letting your cash sit dead in your current account. And don't roll your eyes at 'interest' – that's free money just for having a bit of discipline. It comes after thousands of Brits to get shock letter from HMRC after drastic new tax rule comes into force. ‌ While your mate's blowing £6 a day on fancy coffee, you're quietly building a pot that could pay for a holiday, a house deposit, or bail you out in a crisis. However you may be still sceptical, so imagine if you save just £25 a week, that's £1,300 a year – without lifting a finger after you set it up. Add interest? Boom – even more. And if rates go up? You win again. Regular saving isn't boring – it's powerful and it's how smart people get ahead. So, skip one takeaway a week, set up that direct debit, and start building your financial safety net. Because when life throws you a curveball – or a golden opportunity – you'll be glad you've got cash in the tank. There is also an easy rule to follow to make your oney work harder. If you want your money to be in a good place, it's important not to blow it all at once on just day-to-day stuff. Following the 70:10:10:10 rule can help. At MoneyMatiX, we swear by it. Spend no more than 70% of your cash, stash away at least 10% for savings, pump another 10% into investments to grow your wealth, and don't forget to have fun or give back with the last 10%. Balance is everything - follow this and watch your money game go from zero to hero. Take your morning Starbucks, for example. Ditching that daily Tall Latte on your way to work could save you a staggering £851 a year. That's a holiday, your energy bill paid, or the breathing room and emergency fund sorted. The bottom line? You don't need to be wealthy to invest wisely - you just need to start today. And finally, remember volatility is normal. If your pension pot has dipped recently because of Trump's tariffs war uncertainly with the Government's plan, don't panic. Markets go through ups and downs – but investing and certainly investing in a pension is a long-term game, and history shows they do recover.

It's not too late to book last-minute flight tickets for holiday trips over the August bank holiday weekend. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 The day and time flights are likely to be cheaper for the bank holiday has been revealed Credit: Getty Brits can still find ways to get out of the country that won't blow the budget for the weekend of August 25. This includes trips to classic European escapes and hotspots like Disneyland Paris. Ticket experts have analysed pricing data and industry travel trends. CEO of AttractionTickets, Oliver Brendon, explained: 'It's easy to assume the early bird always gets the deal. "In reality, travel companies adjust fares repeatedly based on demand, and we see opportunities appear even in the final days before departure. "There's still time to save on last-minute August bank holiday travel if you know when to book.' Brendon reveals the trick to finding value no matter how late the purchase is made. Through review of historic pricing, as well as industry reports, Sundays have been found to regularly deliver the lowest average booking prices. This is because airlines adjust seat availability and prices over the weekend. Therefore, holidaymakers who plan to book on Sundays can more often find a better deal and pay significantly less than those who book on other days. 3 tips to help you get the cheapest flights when booking holidays Furthermore, Fridays have been found to be time to avoid as it is the time when prices tend to spike due to increasing demand. A clear morning advantage has also been found through analyses. Around 6am is when the fresh fares tend to show up, so it is good to get in early before search traffic ramps up into the day. So those looking to book a getaway from the bank holiday this month should set their alarms for Sunday morning. Oliver adds 6am on Sunday, August 17 "both sit within the sweet spot before the long weekend and will give you a chance at potentially unlocking better pricing.' This timing tip comes from expert insights and data-driven research from travel and ticketing platforms. It also focused on last-minute booking trends by travellers in the UK. The advise follows suggestions from CEO of Ryanair, Michael O'Leary, who said flights could also be booked cheaper in the first two months of the year. Winter months are believed to be the best time of the year to find cheap air fares, as well as just before the peak of school holidays. Another study looked in to the best time to book flights for certain destinations. For Faro in Portugal, the cheapest flights for the summer holidays were found to be just five weeks before travelling. And for long-haul flights like to New York, the best time was found to be June to book for an August vacation.

Underrated UK seaside town has picturesque sandy beaches and no crowds

An underrated UK seaside town boasts stretches of sandy beaches, rock pools for the kids and a picturesque harbour - and the bonus of not being packed with crowds Brits looking to get inspired for their next staycation may want to check out one underrated seaside town with a pretty marina, sandy beaches and a lido at low tide for kids to enjoy. ‌ North Berwick in Scotland isn't a hidden gem but it has all of the perks of a seaside town, without having huge crowds of tourists that you might find in other UK holiday hotspots. ‌ I visited the town in early August when it was hot, sunny and the town was hosting the Fringe by the Sea festival, so I was fully prepared to deal with a mass of fellow tourists. However I was pleasantly surprised; although it was a little busy no doubt because of the festival, there was still plenty of breathing space to enjoy a stroll around the town and along the waterfront. (It has more of a buzz than England's cheapest seaside spot full of abandoned £40k homes 'nobody wants'). ‌ Despite it being a heatwave day, the sandy stretches of beach were not too crowded either. There were plenty of families set up for the day with their towels, sandcastle tools and picnic baskets at the ready, but there was still plenty of space if you wanted to set up camp yourself. Low tide reveals an enclosed tidal pool with shallow waters which was a hit with families, especially those with young children. There were also plenty of rock pools for them to explore, and of course those all-important ice cream trucks just a stone's throw away. Along the beaches sits a long promenade lined with waterfront homes, and it's an easy stroll from one end to another (the whole thing took me about half an hour to walk). For bird watchers, there's plenty you'll want to explore. For a start North Berwick is home to the Scottish Seabird Centre, while the beach offers views across the water to the Firth of Forth and the Bass Rock, which plays host to the world's largest northern gannet colony. As for the town itself, it's got that quintessential seaside charm. There's a pretty marina full of boats, cobbled streets lined with colourful buildings, plenty of cafés and a host of ice cream parlours. We were told by locals that Alandas Gelato was a must-try, but sadly the queue was just a bit too long. ‌ Those queues were no doubt because the town was hosting the annual Fringe by the Sea festival. This brilliant alternative to the main Fringe festival in Edinburgh has a very laidback vibe and it's family-friendly. There were heaps of food and drink stalls, a crafts tent for kids, and included a big top tent where you could book tickets to watch a series of talks and performances. For those who like to pick up a souvenir or two, there were local shops selling some of their merchandise too. This year's festival has come to a close but you can find out more on It's definitely one I'll be returning too; the laidback atmosphere, the festival and the pretty beach made for a brilliant day out, and the fact it's around an hour's drive away from Edinburgh means it's easily doable as part of a wider Scottish road trip.
