Huge sand artwork highlights how child poverty means millions miss out in summer
A giant sand portrait has been unveiled to show how millions of youngsters in Britain miss out on days out during the summer holidays because of poverty, children's charity Barnardo's said. The 50-square-metre piece on Bridlington beach in East Yorkshire, created by landscape artists from Sand In Your Eye and the charity's youth ambassadors, is a portrait of a child with the words 'Wish I was there' written beneath it. According to Barnardo's research, more than seven million children across the UK live in families who have had to cut their spending on summer activities, and the charity said missing out can affect youngsters' mental health. Lynn Perry, the charity's chief executive, said: 'Parents desperately want to give their children special summer memories but the reality is many are just trying to survive.' The piece is part of their campaign against child poverty and Ruth Welford, assistant director of children's services at Barnardo's, said many families across the UK are struggling to afford to feed their children. Ruth says: 'I've been at Barnardo's for nearly 30 years, but some of the recent stories I've heard from colleagues at the charity have stopped me in my tracks. 'A pregnant woman choosing between paying her bills and eating a meal. A dad needing heart surgery, losing his job and in debt, simply unable to feed his children. It is devastating that families in the UK are living in such awful circumstances. 'Many families are struggling to afford to feed their children, so unfortunately trips to the beach or days out at the zoo don't even factor into their plans. Millions of children are in danger of growing up without any fun summer memories.' The portrait, which was created on Friday afternoon, washed away in the high tide that evening.

Logan Paul marries Nina Agdal in over-the-top Lake Como wedding — see the pics
What else would you expect from an influencer with 27 million Instagram followers? YouTube star and WWE personality Logan Paul has officially tied the knot with model and influencer Nina Agdal in a splashy, opulent Lake Como ceremony surrounded by family, friends, and plenty of over-the-top moments. The couple chose Italy's most glamorous backdrop — Lake Como — for their big day. The location held special meaning, as Paul proposed to Agdal at the luxurious Hotel Passalacqua in July 2023, where rooms start at over $2,300 a night. Their return to the region for the wedding marked a full-circle moment in their love story. Agdal wore a corseted lace gown with her hair swept into an updo, while Paul wore a white suit. The pair's 10-month-old daughter, Esme, also played a starring role in the celebration, making it a true family affair. The wedding guest list included Paul's brother, Jake, and his fiancée, Olympic skater Jutta Leerdam, 26. Logan shared a series of photos and videos with his 27 million Instagram followers, writing 'I've seriously been crying' over one emotional clip. But in true Paul family fashion, there was also a dose of chaos: Jake was filmed repeatedly punching the wedding cake and destroying it in the process, a bizarre moment that quickly went viral. "No respect for food," one commenter wrote. Another said, "Real men don't waste cake."

I didn't think I would get to sing with my choir again but then these amazing angels did this
A terminally ill woman who "never thought" she'd be able to perform with her beloved choir had the "amazing" experience of reuniting with her friends to perform at Cardiff Castle thanks to an incredible group of volunteers. Annette 'Nettie' Burtenshaw, from Penarth, was transported by off-duty ambulance workers from the University Hospital of Wales to perform with the Rock Choir at a City Hospice event on Sunday, August 10. Nettie, who was diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2021, and later bone cancer, was able to give a rousing performance thanks to a Welsh Ambulance Service initiative which helps patients at the end of life to have a memory-making last journey to their favourite destination. Nettie said it was "amazeballs" to be the 100th patient of the Wish Ambulance.
