Mumbai: Seeking anticipatory bail, cardiologist Dr Lekha Pathak, booked for alleged offences of cheating and forgery by obtaining the pension of the late Ramrao Adik as his "widow", said that she was married to the former deputy CM.In her plea, Dr Pathak (79) said she married Adik as per vedic rites in Delhi after he separated from his first wife and they had stayed together at their Bandra home since 1995. "...The complainant, instead of adopting civil proceedings for entitlement of the pension, has intentionally, deliberately, and with ulterior motives and intention, initiated criminal proceedings only with the sole intention to exert pressure upon the applicant... and to grab not only the pension amount to which she is legally entitled but also her other properties," the plea said. The court directed the prosecution to submit its reply, until which no coercive action can be taken against Dr Pathak. The matter was adjourned to June 12.Adik was a well-known lawyer who served as an MLC for 18 years and as deputy CM briefly in 1984. Police lodged the FIR on March 1 following an order by a magistrate's court on Feb 14 based on a private complaint by Adik's son, Prithviraj Adik (73). Prithviraj alleged that after Adik's death in 2007 at the age of 78, Dr Pathak began receiving his pension as his "widow". He said while Adik and Dr Pathak had been in a live-in relationship since 1995, the two never legally married. Prithviraj, also a lawyer, said his mother, Shobha Adik, should have received the pension. However, Dr Pathak's plea said in a joint affidavit sworn before a notary public on Aug 31, 2005, Adik and she had declared their marriage under Hindu Marriage Act for the purpose of passport issuance. The affidavit stated their cohabitation as a married couple and Dr Pathak's adoption of the name Dr Lekha Adik Pathak following the marriage. A photo of the two was included with the affidavit. The plea said Adik divorced his first wife through a divorce deed in 1989. She said she received the pension—which went up from Rs 7,250 in 2008 to Rs 40,000—soon after Adik's death."...Even in the application made to Sukhada Cooperative Housing Society Ltd (Worli), her late husband nominated her as a nominee in respect of the flat," the plea said. It also pointed out photos showing Dr Pathak with Adik at various official functions with the then governor and PM.The plea also referred to consent terms executed with respect to Adik's will. It said on Oct 21, 2008, the consent terms distributed the properties and bank savings among Dr Pathak, the former wife, and the children.

Chhattisgarh Bureaucrat Accused Of Rape, Exploitation By Woman Constable

Bhopal: A high-ranking government officer in Chhattisgarh finds himself at the centre of a storm as serious allegations of rape and exploitation under the false promise of marriage have been levelled against him. A Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) woman constable from Balod district has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Deputy Collector Dilip Uike, accusing him of sexually exploiting her over the past year while consistently misleading her with the promise of marriage. The case was registered at Doundi Police Station in Balod, triggering shockwaves through the state's administrative circles. Police sources indicated that Mr Uike, who is currently posted in Bijapur district, could be arrested at any time as the legal process unfolds. According to the police complaint, the woman constable alleged that her relationship with Mr Uike began in 2017, when both were studying in Doundi. Their acquaintance developed into a romantic relationship. She claims that Mr Uike initiated a physical relationship with her on the promise that he would marry her. The woman also accused the Deputy Collector of financial manipulation. She alleged that Uike not only purchased a car in her name but also got Rs 3 lakh transferred into his bank account under various pretexts. However, when she repeatedly brought up the topic of marriage, Mr Uike allegedly began to evade conversations and eventually cut off all communication with her. Balod Additional SP Monika Thakur, confirming the case, said, "A written complaint has been received from the constable. Based on her statement, a case has been registered under the relevant sections of sexual exploitation and criminal breach of trust. The allegations are serious, and the investigation is underway." Dealer fined for selling defective cellphone

Dharwad: The Dharwad District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission has rapped a cellphone manufactuing company for selling a defective handset to a customer. Neeta, a resident of Karwar Road in Hubballi, had purchased a Samsung cellphone for Rs 20,300 from the authorised Samsung dealer Sri Tirumala Tele World, Hubballi. Within 2-3 days of purchase, the gadget started developing problems such as hanging and display issues. Neeta told the dealer about the issue and sought a replacement. However, the dealer refused, even though the customer had not used it further, and had kept it with her in the same condition. With no other option left, Neeta sent a legal notice. But even then, the dealer allegedly ignored her grievance. Stating that such conduct amounted to deficiency in service under the Consumer Protection Act, Neeta filed a case before the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission. After a detailed inquiry, the commission headed by retired judge Ishappa Bhute and member Vishalakshi Bolashetti observed that documentary evidence clearly showed the phone had developed hanging and display defects within 2-3 days of purchase, which amounted to a manufacturing defect. The commission further noted the complainant had purchased the mobile for Rs 20,300 for her daily use and convenience, but it became non-functional within just 2-3 days, and the opposite party neither repaired it nor replaced it. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 20 Highest Paying Degrees For 2025 Best Paying Degrees | Search Ads Learn More Undo This amounted to deficiency in service under the Consumer Protection Act.
