Thanks to HM the King's Wisdom, Morocco's Sovereignty over Sahara Gains Growing International Support
Thanks to the wisdom and foresight of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara is gaining growing international support, said the President of the Andean Parliament, Gustavo Pacheco Villar.
In an interview with MAP on the sidelines of the 3rd International Forum of Young Socialist and Social Democratic Parliamentarians, held in Marrakech on May 2-3, Pacheco Villar emphasized that the foresight of the Sovereign's Vision is reflected in the support of major world powers such as the United States of America, France and Spain for Morocco's sovereignty over its Sahara.
In this respect, he noted the growing support of Latin American countries for the Kingdom's position, while reiterating the Andean Parliament's support for Morocco's territorial integrity and sovereignty over its Southern Provinces.
He also highlighted the progress and impressive development momentum of these provinces.
'I visited the Kingdom's southern provinces and was impressed by the development projects carried out or launched in the various towns,' stated the President of the Andean Parliament, citing in particular the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Laayoune and the Dakhla Atlantic Port.
In the same vein, he highlighted the Royal Atlantic Initiative, which aims to open up new prospects for Sahelo-Saharan countries and boost a sustainable regional economic dynamic, as well as the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project, noting that these innovative initiatives make the Kingdom a major player in consolidating and promoting South-South cooperation.
Morocco's active presence in Africa and its various actions and initiatives in favor of the continent's countries also reflect the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to lasting cooperation, he affirmed.
Referring to the various reforms carried out in the Kingdom under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King, Pacheco Villar said that Morocco had taken major steps towards consolidating the rule of law, notably through the adoption of the 2011 Constitution and the empowerment of women.

Back from Morocco, Lammy confirms UK's endorsement of autonomy plan to Parliament
Following his recent visit to Rabat, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs David Lammy updated the the Parliament on the UK's «deepening partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco» and its new position on the Western Sahara issue. «While in Morocco, I announced the UK's endorsement of Morocco's autonomy proposal as the most credible, viable, and pragmatic basis for a solution to the conflict», Lammy stated, in a message shared, Tuesday, by Ray Collins, Deputy Leader of the House of Lords and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Africa. «In parallel, I welcomed Morocco's willingness, outlined in our joint communiqué, to engage in good faith with all relevant parties and provide further details on what autonomy could entail, with a view to restarting serious negotiations», he added in his address to Parliament. Lammy emphasized that, through this position, the UK government is «advancing regional security, stability and prosperity by supporting efforts to resolve the longstanding Western Sahara conflict, which has persisted for nearly five decades». The conflict, he noted, has «undermined regional stability and hindered economic development, particularly affecting Sahrawi refugees residing in the Tindouf camps». Referring to a «renewed international engagement», Lammy said this creates «a window of opportunity to shift the dial on this intractable conflict and support the parties and the UN in reaching a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution». He also stressed that by backing the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco in 2007, his office is «redoubling its efforts to help realise this opportunity». A UK-Morocco trade partnership In addition to the Western Sahara issue, Lammy's visit also focused on strengthening the UK-Morocco partnership across a range of shared priorities. He noted that the bilateral trade relationship between London and Rabat exceeds £4 billion annually—a partnership that should be further reinforced to «advance mutual goals in security, prosperity, and sustainable development—delivering tangible benefits for British businesses and supporting the Government's Plan for Change to boost economic growth». Lammy highlighted a series of partnership agreements signed during his Sunday visit, which he said are opening «opportunities for UK businesses across a range of sectors, including access to public procurement markets in Morocco, where opportunities are estimated to be worth approximately £33 billion over the next three years». He also referred to a government-to-government partnership signed with Morocco that allows British companies to compete for contracts linked to Morocco's infrastructure development ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Additionally, he announced enhanced cooperation on migration and counterterrorism, as well as joint initiatives to address water scarcity and climate change.

UK Position Will Strengthen Momentum Around Moroccan Sahara Issue Under HM the King's Leadership
The position expressed by the United Kingdom regarding the Moroccan Sahara will help reinforce the momentum this issue has gained under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, stated Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, on Sunday in Rabat. This position represents "a significant development," given that the United Kingdom is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and a member of the Group of Friends of the UN Secretary-General on the Sahara, noted Bourita during a press briefing with the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, David Lammy. In this regard, the minister noted that "four countries within the Group of Friends of the UN Secretary-General on the Sahara have now joined this dynamic and expressed support for the Autonomy Initiative—namely France, the United States, Spain, and now the United Kingdom." Bourita also emphasized that the United Kingdom has always been an influential and credible voice at the European, UN, and international levels. He added that this position will also have positive economic implications, as UK Export Finance may consider supporting investment projects in the southern provinces of the Kingdom. He stressed that Morocco does not view the growing support for its position on the Sahara as a privilege or a means of maintaining the status quo, but rather as a factor that can help bring about a resolution to a conflict that has lasted more than 50 years. Bourita noted that the United Nations and the international community now have a real opportunity to reach a definitive solution to this dispute, based on the Autonomy Initiative proposed by Morocco within the framework of its sovereignty. He expressed hope that all parties will engage seriously in finding a lasting resolution to the issue. Furthermore, Bourita described Lammy's visit to the Kingdom as "historic" in many respects. He explained that this is the first visit by a UK Foreign Secretary to Morocco since 2011, and it will allow for a qualitative leap in bilateral relations. It also provided an opportunity to hold the 5th session of the Strategic Dialogue between the two countries and to discuss various bilateral and regional issues. "This visit is also significant and historic in that it enabled the United Kingdom to express its position on the Moroccan Sahara," the minister added, noting that the joint communiqué signed on this occasion affirms that the United Kingdom "considers the Autonomy Proposal presented [by Morocco] in 2007 as the most credible, serious, and pragmatic basis for a lasting resolution to the regional dispute" over the Moroccan Sahara, and "will continue to act at the bilateral level, particularly in economic matters, as well as regionally and internationally, in line with this position." Bourita also stated that this visit marks a turning point in relations between the two countries. He emphasized that, in line with the High Royal Directives aimed at diversifying and strengthening partnerships, Morocco has engaged in a dialogue to further develop "our bilateral relations based on the centuries-old ties between the two countries and the special relationship uniting the two Royal Families." As a result, the minister stressed that the two countries are working to inject new momentum into their bilateral relations and to elevate the Morocco-UK partnership to cover all sectors, including the economy, security, culture, defense, investment, education, and scientific research. In addition, Bourita recalled that four agreements were signed on this occasion, with more expected to be concluded in the coming two days, giving new impetus to Morocco–UK relations and ushering in a new era of bilateral cooperation.
