Ohtani homers in 5th straight game, Freeman drives in 2 runs in the 9th as Dodgers beat Twins 4-3
Freeman hit a sinking liner to left field that eluded a diving Harrison Bader and scored Mookie Betts and Ohtani, setting off a wild celebration.
Ohtani hit a solo homer to center in the first, his National League-leading 37th of the season. It marked the seventh time in Dodgers history that a player has homered in five consecutive games. Ohtani joins Max Muncy, Joc Pederson, Adrian Gonzalez, Matt Kemp, Shawn Green and Roy Campanella in that club.
The Twins scored two runs in the eighth off the Dodgers bullpen, one day after scoring seven runs off Los Angeles' pen in a 10-7 victory.
This time, the Dodgers got the better of the Twins bullpen.
Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow was dominant, allowing three hits and one run with 12 strikeouts in seven innings. The right-hander was making his third start since returning from a shoulder injury.
Minnesota's Chris Paddack had a strong outing, allowing four hits and one run in six innings with eight strikeouts.
Royce Lewis, an native of Orange County, California, tied the game at 1 with a solo home run off Glasnow in the third inning. He added a double in the fifth and a walk in the two-run eighth, finishing 2 for 2.
Tommy Edman lined a run-scoring, bases-loaded single to right field in the seventh to score Freeman, giving the Dodgers a 2-1 lead.
Dodgers reliever Kirby Yates opened the eighth by walking the first three batters he faced. Alex Vesia entered and got Willi Castro to hit into a double play, scoring one run, and pinch-hitter Bader knocked in another run with an infield single.
Minnesota's Griffin Jax got the first two outs in the ninth before Betts singled and Ohtani was walked intentionally. Jax walked Esteury Ruiz, loading the bases for Freeman.
Glasnow struck out 12 batters for the first time since June 9, 2024, when he fanned 12 against the Yankees.
Twins RHP Zebby Matthews (1-2, 6.26 ERA) makes his sixth start against when Minnesota hosts Washington on Friday.
Dodgers RHP Emmet Sheehan (101, 4.41 ERA) will face the Red Sox in Boston on Friday.

Team USA sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested on Sunday after reportedly getting into a fight with her boyfriend at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, according to a police report obtained by multiple media outlets. Per the report, Coleman refused to press charges and "declined to be a victim," via The Athletic. USA Track and Field said in a statement to USA Today that the organization was aware of the reports, but did not provide any additional comment. Richardson competed in the USA Track and Field championships in Eugene, Oregon, running in the first round of the women's 100-meter race on Thursday. With a time of 11.07 seconds, Richardson qualified in 11th place, but she has since withdrawn from the competition. She also pulled out of the 200-meter race, where she was scheduled to run this weekend. Because she's the reigning world champion in the 100, she automatically qualifies for September's World Championships in Tokyo in the event.

The fight was stopped at 4:38 of Round 2 at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. A tight guillotine choke began standing as Dupras (9-2) hopped up on Kelly (11-5) and locked in his grip. As the two eventually fell to the canvas, Kelly tapped, but the referee was not in position to see it. So Kelly's neck was squeezed for a few seconds longer before the official recognized consciousness no longer was present. Dupras bounces back from an April loss to Gabriel Braga. Guardians reportedly clear out lockers of Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz amid paid leave over gambling investigation
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase's locker was empty the day after the MLB trade deadline, but not for the reason many expected this time last week. With both Clase and teammate Luis Ortiz on paid leave amid an investigation into gambling allegations, the Guardians cleared out their lockers before Friday's game, according to The Athletic's Zack Meisel. While no reason for the change was provided, it's notable given that the Guardians have already played multiple home games since Clase was sidelined on Monday. Ortiz has also been on leave since July 3. Both players have reportedly had their leave extended through at least Aug. 31. It's possible something has changed behind the scenes, or maybe Cleveland just wanted to keep them out of mind in the clubhouse. Regardless, it's not the best omen for fans hoping to see either player again this season. Emmanuel Clase was placed on leave at a bad time for the Guardians Clase loomed as one of the biggest prizes at the trade deadline, which saw a fervent market for relievers. Athletics closer Mason Miller, Minnesota Twins closer Jhoan Duran and Pittsburgh Pirates closer David Bednar were all traded for significant hauls, and Clase might have commanded a larger return than any of them. With his future uncertain, Cleveland was instead forced to hold onto Clase. With a 54-54 record and long playoff odds, the team did trade away former Cy Young Award winner Shane Bieber and veteran reliever Paul Sewald. Clase is a three-time MLB All-Star and has accrued 181 saves in five seasons with the Guardians, with a career 1.88 ERA. The first came on June 15, when someone bet an unusual amount of money on Ortiz to throw a ball or hit a batter with his first pitch of the second inning (yes, you can do that). If it's true that either Guardians player did something similar, they would also face a lifetime ban under Rule 21 of the MLB rulebook.
