Feb. 25 proclaimed as ‘The Wiz Day' in Rochester to honor Tony Award-winning musical's stop in the city
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Wiz took the stage in Rochester Tuesday night at RBTL as it kicks off its first-ever North American tour.
The show got its start at RBTL on Feb. 22.
The Tony Award-winning musical is a retelling of the classic Wizard of Oz.
Admirers of the show say it has transformed Broadway in recent years, taking the audience through Dorothy's journey in the world of Oz in a way that's never been done before, featuring the soulful sounds of gospel, funk as well as rock.
Mayor Malik Evans was there ahead of the performance Tuesday evening, making a special proclamation in honor of the show's initial stop and training in Rochester.
Now, Feb. 25 will be recognized as 'The Wiz Day' in Rochester.
'The Lion in Winter' opens this weekend in Rochester
The Wiz runs through Feb. 28 at RBTL before heading on the road to Buffalo.

Beyoncé kicks off international shows in London with Les Twins by her side
Beyoncé kicks off international shows in London with Les Twins by her side Beyoncé Knowles-Carter launched the international leg of her "Cowboy Carter" tour, and many fans were excited to see a set of special twins dancing behind her. The Grammy-winning singer kicked off her June 5 London show on the Cowboy Carter and the Rodeo Chitlin' Circuit Tour at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium around 7:39 p.m. local time — the earliest yet. And fans in the stadium and watching online were in for a treat when they noticed Les Twins — Laurent and Larry Nicolas Bourgeois — dancing onstage with her. Fans instantly flooded social media with excitement. One fan wrote, "Omg they are back. I hope they come to the DC. show." Another exclaimed, "OMG THE TWINS," and many others cosigned. Born in Sarcelles, France, Les Twins have become known as Beyoncé's other set of twins, along with her 7-year-old children Sir and Rumi Carter. Les Twins have collaborated with her on numerous occasions, dancing alongside her on major stages, tours and videos. Some of those include the Mrs. Carter Show World Tour in 2013, Beychella in 2018 and the Renaissance World Tour in 2023. On the "Cowboy Carter" tour, daughter Rumi has been making nightly appearances to wave to the crowd along with her sister, Blue Ivy Carter, during the song "Protector." Sir has not appeared, and neither had Les Twins, until June 5. Until lo and behold they performed at the first international stop. It's unclear if they will remain throughout the duration of the tour. Beyoncé was set to perform at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for a total of six nights. She was poised to hit the stage June 5, 7, 10, 12, 14 and 16. After her six-night stint, she will head to Paris for three nights. As fans know, Beyoncé first debuted her "Cowboy Carter" tour at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on April 28 with 39 songs on the set list. Her shows have been filled with family, fashion, different music genres, and most notably country music and cultural commentary. Jennifer Lopez stars in 'Kiss of the Spider Woman' teaser trailer
Jennifer Lopez revels in the glitz and glam of Hollywood in the teaser trailer for " Kiss of the Spider Woman." The teaser for the upcoming musical drama arrived Thursday. "Dreamgirls" director Bill Condon helmed this new adaptation, which is based on the 1976 novel and the Tony-winning Broadway musical of the same name. "Andor" star Diego Luna stars as Valentín, a political prisoner who shares a cell with Molina, played by Tonatiuh. The two form a bond as Molina tells Valentín about the plot of his favorite Hollywood musical, which stars Ingrid Luna, played by Lopez. "What's your favorite movie?" Molina asks Valentín in the trailer. "I don't have one," Valentín responds. "I couldn't live without movies," Molina continues, as he looks at a poster of "Kiss of the Spider Woman" he's hung up in their shared prison cell. "One of them, I'll never forget." Condon wrote the screenplay of the film, based on the novel by Manuel Puig, musical book by Terrence McNally, and music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb. The teaser finds Lopez performing "Where You Are," one of the musical's 13 songs. Lopez and Luna also serve as executive producers on the film, which first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. "Kiss of the Spider Woman" arrives in theaters Oct. 10.
