Upendra Limaye of Animal fame all set to make his Kannada debut

Time of India7 hours ago

Having wowed audiences nationwide with his portrayal of Freddy Patil in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film Animal, National Award-winning actor
Upendra Limaye
is now set to make his Kannada debut. Upendra will soon be seen in a pivotal role in director
Kishore Bhargav
's upcoming film, which features Rishi in the lead.
Kishore, who earlier worked as an associate director with Ram Gopal Varma and made his directorial debut with the Kannada film Stalker, reveals that casting Upendra was a decision born out of admiration. 'His performance in Animal blew me away. While writing this character, I couldn't think of anyone else,' shares the filmmaker.
In the Kannada film, Upendra plays the role of Vasant Rao, who is 'wacky, aggressive, and funny'. Notably, the role comes with an unusual twist: the character suffers from misophonia, a condition where specific sounds trigger intense emotional or behavioural reactions. 'Vasant Rao is unpredictable. His aggression stems from his sensitivity to sound, but that's also where a lot of the film's humour lies,' says Kishore.
A connection with Karnataka
'My mother is from Belagavi, so Kannada feels like my mother tongue—it's a language of love,' says the veteran actor, who is widely celebrated for his work in Marathi cinema.

Ranbir Kapoor's hairstyle in Animal was inspired by Michael Jackson, says Aalim Hakim: ‘Uski entry moonwalk pe hai'

Ranbir Kapoor made a splash with the release of his film Animal in December 2023. The film sparked a social media debate over its misogynistic tone, even as it shattered box office records. Ranbir's look in the film was also a topic of discussion, where he sported long hair and a heavy beard. In an interview with celebrity hairstylist Aalim Hakim on Hindi Rush, it was revealed that Ranbir's long hair and curls look was inspired by Michael Jackson. (Also read: Sandeep Reddy Vanga had to be convinced to keep Ranbir Kapoor's hair long in Animal; he thought it looked like Sanju) During the interaction, Aalim said in Hindi, 'There were multiple looks in Animal. In that film, Vanga sir had told that the lead has long hair, but he had it in his younger days and then cut it off for his father and then upon return from America, he also has long hair. So both these long hair looks must be different. When I was told that the character is a fan of Michael Jackson, then it hit me, how he has this entire leather jacket-white t-shirt look. I cracked the look and took inspiration from Michael Jackson's curls and man bun for Ranbir.' He went on to add, 'I collected the iconic pictures of Michael Jackson and recreated that look. When people watched the film, they were not able to see that it is the same style. Now that I am saying it, one can see the similarities. Uski entry moonwalk pe hain (He makes his entry with a moonwalk).' Animal tells the story of Ranvijay Singh, who goes on a rampage after his father, Balbir Singh (Anil Kapoor), is threatened. After going through a bunch of enemies before facing off against Abrar Haque (Bobby Deol), his long-lost cousin. The film also starred Rashmika Mandanna and Tripti Dimri. A sequel of the film, titled Animal Park, has already been announced.

Genelia D'Souza REACTS To Rumours Of 'Accidentally' Getting Married To John Abraham On Force Sets

Last Updated: Genelia D'Souza reacts to 2012 rumours of marrying John Abraham on Force set. Genelia D'Souza has finally addressed one of the strangest rumours from her career — claims that she and co-star John Abraham were 'accidentally" married during the shoot of their 2011 action film Force. In a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, the actress cleared the air, debunking the bizarre story that had sparked wild speculation back in 2012. According to the rumour, a real priest had been brought on set to perform a wedding scene between the two actors — complete with rituals like mantras, garlands, the mangalsutra, and even the seven pheras — supposedly resulting in a legal marriage. Reacting to it all, Genelia said, 'There was no truth to it. We didn't get married. These stories were spread by PR, and I think you should ask them why they did it." The Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na star made it clear that the buzz had no basis in reality and was entirely manufactured by PR machinery. Despite how viral the story became at the time, Genelia maintained that neither she nor John Abraham had anything to do with fuelling the narrative. Today, Genelia is happily married to actor Riteish Deshmukh. The two tied the knot in 2012 and are now parents to two children. John is married to Priya Runchal. Ahead of its release, the actress sat for an interview and talked about her decision to take a 10-year break from acting and the limelight after her marriage to Riteish Deshmukh. During a conversation with Zoom, Genelia said, 'Most people ask me if it's easy to step away from the limelight for 10 years and I said, 'It's what I wanted to do, so I did it.' I saw a place after 10 years and I am happy in that place. I may not do 10 films, I may do three films, but my happiness is with that and that's what matters the most." Genelia took a break from acting in 2012 after tying the knot with Riteish. She made her acting comeback with the Marathi film Ved. Released in 2022, the film was directed by Riteish himself and turned out to be a hit. However, the actress made cameo appearances in films like Jai Ho and Force 2. First Published:

Ex-rebels walk into Gadchiroli's 1st AC theatre, surprised by film based on them

NAGPUR: Flickering light from the screen lit up faces once feared in the forests. A group of surrendered Maoists, some with children in tow, stepped out of guarded camps Tuesday and into Gadchiroli's first air-conditioned theatre - to watch Ghaath, a Marathi film based on the very insurgency they once bled for, reports Shishir Arya. No warning. No clue. Just an invitation. They walked into Picturetime Digital's compact hall, unaware they'd be watching their lives unfold on celluloid. "It was a surprise," said director Chhatrapal Ninawe. "They were not told the movie was based on Maoists." Ghaath, which premiered at Berlin Film Festival in 2023, lays bare the fractures within left-wing extremism - from ideological drift to internal betrayal. Shot in the rough terrain of Gondia and Bhandara, Ghaath mirrors the topography and tension of Gadchiroli. "The movie shows it all," said Ninawe. "Internal dissent, disillusionment, fading idealism. They said the story rang true - except the end." The protagonist, a surrendered rebel, dies. Many in the audience disagreed. "They wanted him to live - to show a way forward," said Ninawe. For several children, it was the first time inside a theatre. Gadchiroli had a cinema hall before but closed due to insurgency. Built with district development funds, the new one opened in May with Chhaava, a film on Sambhaji Maharaj.
