SoftBank to invest in Intel The Japanese SoftBank Group announced it will invest $2 billion in Intel, with the update coming as its founder Masayoshi Son tries to align himself with U.S. President Donald Trump. Google announces nuclear reactor site Google and Kairos Power have chosen the U.S. state of Tennessee in order to establish a nuclear power plant that is slated to supply electricity to Google data centres in the U.S. southeast region from 2030. The deal is intended to support 500 megawatts of advanced nuclear capacity, or about enough power for 350,000 homes. The venture is significant as it is a landmark power purchase agreement for 'generation IV nuclear power,' which is touted as being safer and more sustainable. The reactor in Tennessee is the first to be deployed under Google's corporate agreement as the company looks to buy nuclear energy from small modular reactors. U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that the Department of Energy had assisted Kairos Power with the project, and hailed 'the next American nuclear renaissance.' Foxconn bets big on the AI boom Foxconn was for several years known as the Taiwanese electronics giant that made its name through the assembly of millions of Apple iPhones, but it is now shifting to Generative AI. For the first time in the second quarter, the company's revenue from making AI servers and related products was more than that of smart consumer products like Apple's iPhone. Foxconn's earlier reliance on iPhone manufacturing was seen as a risk, and especially in light of geopolitical trade challenges and slowing demand growth for the premium smartphones. However, Foxconn Chairman Young Liu since 2019 has encouraged the company to focus on AI servers, electric vehicles, and semiconductors to diversify its approach. Foxconn next became successful in the AI server manufacturing business and is Nvidia's biggest server maker.

Airtel and Apple have teamed up for Apple TV+ subscription which is available for a wide range of its consumers. And now, if you use an Airtel prepaid number that is recharged monthly or quarterly, you can make use of the free Apple Music offer from the company. The Airtel prepaid offer for Apple Music free subscription is available to select users through the Airtel Thanks app that works on both Android and iOS devices. You will see an ad banner on your account which gives you access to the Apple music streaming app. Here's how it goes: The new offer has not been officially confirmed but it seems to be gradually rolling out for Airtel prepaid users in the country. Airtel and Apple formed the deal back in February this year, giving its subscribers free access to some of the popular Apple platforms. The deal is applicable for Airtel postpaid and Wi-Fi customers who can try out the Apple TV+ streaming app using their account. The telco says all postpaid mobile users and Airtel Xstream Fibre customers can stream the Apple TV+ content catalogue by choosing select Wi-Fi or postpaid plans. These subscriptions have so far been offered on plans above Rs 999 but now the telco is bringing it for the prepaid users as well. Besides this, Airtel has introduced its free AI plan via Perplexity Pro version that is available to most of Airtel prepaid, postpaid and Wi-Fi users in the country. The Airtel AI offer is claimed to bring features worth Rs 17,000 with its one year plan but a recent post on Reddit said the performance of the supposed free AI offer was less than satisfactory. Sundar Pichai- File image Google has agreed to pay a fine of 55 million Australian dollars ($36 million) for entering into anticompetitive agreements with Australia's two largest telecom operators that restricted the installation of rival search engines on certain smartphones, the US tech giant and the Australian competition regulator confirmed. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) said in a statement that it has initiated proceedings in the Federal Court against Google's Singapore-based Asia Pacific division. The court will now determine whether the proposed AU$55 million ($36 million) penalty is appropriate. Why Is Google Fined? Under the anticompetitive agreements, which were in place for 15 months until March 2021, Telstra and Optus only pre-installed Google Search on Android phones sold to customers. Other search engines were excluded. In return, the telcos received a share of the advertisement revenue Google generated from those customers. Google accepted that the agreements were likely to have the effect of 'substantially lessening competition,' the commission said. Google has also signed a court-enforceable undertaking that commits the company to removing certain pre-installation and default search engine restrictions from its contracts with Android phone manufacturers and telcos, the commission said. The tech company said in a statement: 'We're pleased to resolve the ACCC's concerns, which involved provisions that haven't been in our commercial agreements for some time.' What Australian Authorities Say On Anticompetitive Agreements? Commissioner chair Gina-Cass Gottlieb said: 'Conduct that restricts competition is illegal in Australia because it usually means less choice, higher costs or worse service for consumers.' 'Importantly, these changes come at a time when AI search tools are revolutionising how we search for information, creating new competition,' Cass-Gottlieb added. Last year, Telstra, Optus and their smaller rival TPG agreed to court-enforceable undertakings with the commission that they would not renew or make similar deals with Google to limit search options.
