THERE'S no end of games for your phones and tablets – but plenty of them are a bit rubbish.
I'm The Sun's tech editor and I've spent hundreds of hours tapping and swiping my way through mobiles games to find the best free gems that you'll actually want to play.

The game has an all-star cast of characters – and you may recognise some of them from hit Netflix animated series Arcane

In fact, I'm convinced this lot of titles is so good that you'll even snub your PS5 or Xbox – at least for the moment.
Better still, all five of them are available on iPhone, Android, and iPad, so there's something for everyone.
These games are truly brilliant, with hours of replayability, immense depth, and no upfront fees to play.
Best mobile game #1 – Wild Rift
First on my list is Wild Rift, which is a mobile version of PC gaming mega-hit League of Legends.
It's a fantasy MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) where two teams face off with the aim of dominating a battleground.
There are dozens of magical and mystical characters to play, each with different abilities.
And though it's easy to pick up, it could you take years to truly master.
As you progress through the game, you'll find yourself battling more skilled players, so you'll never be short of a challenge.
And Riot Games' Wild Rift is constantly being updated with new characters, modes, and mini-games, so there's always something to do.
Best mobile game #2 – Polytopia
Polytopia is a fiendishly replayable "4X" game – that stands for Explore, Expand, Exploit, and Exterminate.

Polytopia is a colourful and thrilling strategy game

You're set loose upon a map occupied by opposing tribes, and it's your goal to build a civilisation, conquer your enemies, and dominate the world. All through your phone screen.
The game is turn-based and involves a decent amount of strategy, and is easily paused for you to come back later. It also works offline, so this is a great option for flights.
It feels far easier to pick up than the hit Civilisation game series – and is bright, colourful, and suits shorter gameplay sessions.
You can ramp up the difficulty of the AI, the number of enemies, and size of the map for extended games – or trim it all back for a quick session.

And because there are so many different tribes with different perks, you can come at the game from lots of different play-styles.
Best mobile game #3 – Kingdom Rush
Kingdom Rush is an entire series of games that kicked off back in 2011.
They're not all free, but the first one is – and it's a cracker.
Kingdom Rush is a tower defence game set in a medieval fantasy realm where you control wizards, archers, and knights to fend off baddies.

Your reinforcements and power-ups get more sophisticated as you progress through increasingly difficult levels.
And the thrill of creating a truly epic defence is like no other.
The Kingdom Rush games are fun and don't take themselves too seriously. They're also easy to pick up, with relatively short levels that can easily be enjoyed on a commute or during a lunch break.
And you'll probably find yourself wanting to pay for the sequels. I certainly did.

MOBILE GAMING – THE GAME HAS CHANGED
Here's a quick take from The Sun's tech editor Sean Keach...
Back in the day, most mobile games were cheap and cheerful – but no match for console titles.
Soon game makers clocked on to the fact that pretty much everyone has a smartphone and/or tablet.
And very few people have consoles by comparison.
So developers have poured huge amounts of money into making mobile games, resulting in plenty of brilliant console-rivalling titles.
Pair that with the fact that the latest phones and tablets have very impressive computing power, pixel-dense displays, and access to fast internet, and you'll soon find you've basically got a console in your pocket.
You can also upgrade your phone or tablet by connecting a Bluetooth controller (like the PlayStation's DualSense joypad) for more console-like gaming.
And you could also enjoy actual console games by using a game streaming service like Xbox Cloud Gaming.
You'll save money on a console, and get even more value out of the mobile you're already paying for. Mobile gaming is a no-brainer!

Best mobile game #4 – Old School RuneScape
RuneScape is such a global hit that it almost needs no introduction.
This is the relaunched 2013 "old school" version of the hit massively-multiplayer online role-playing game based on its 2007 version.
Created by British studio Jagex, RuneScape drops you into a vast fantasy world filled with brilliant quests, fearsome bosses, and endless areas to explore.
This is the sort of game you lose days, not hours, to.

The whimsical medieval MMORPG gives players plenty of freedom in terms of gameplay style

It's one of the greatest games ever created and remains wildly popular to this day – so it's a miracle that you can enjoy it on a smartphone.
The game receives regular updates with new content, and has a large online community to play with, so every game session feels different.
RuneScape's very large base game is free, but you can upgrade it with a monthly membership to unlock an absolutely enormous selection of new zones, quests, and more if you prefer.
My only warning: this game is so good, you might find it difficult to put down.
16
There's also a PVP element if you're interested in taking on other players

Best mobile game #5 – Hearthstone
Created by World of Warcraft titans Activision Blizzard, Hearthstone is a beautiful and brilliant online card game.
You collect virtual trading cards to build decks that you can then use to battle against the computer or other players.
And all of the cards are themed around the Warcraft universe, featuring iconic characters and spells from the smash-hit fantasy game.
Hearthstone is very simple to pick up but progresses to very high-level strategy if that's your interest.

And you can play on your own, against a pal, or even versus total strangers.
Blizzard is constantly releasing new cards and decks for Hearthstone, so it never gets stale.
And you don't need to spend a penny on it if you don't want.
This is one of the slickest card games out there, and works just as well on a small phone screen as it does on a giant iPad.

Ronnie O'Sullivan rekindles Laila Rouass romance as couple make £2m decision

Ronnie O'Sullivan is set to quit the UK for the Middle East after a series of snooker struggles over the past few months but his partner Laila Rouass looks set to join him after the pair got back together Snooker legend star Ronnie O'Sullivan has reportedly rekindled his relationship with former fiancee Laila Rouass just nine months after they separated. The Rocket announced his split from the Strictly Come Dancing star last year following 13 years together. And that split coincided with what was arguably O'Sullivan's most difficult spell on the snooker table. He had barely played in 2025 heading into this year's world championship. ‌ But it now appears that he has reconciled with Rouass, with reports suggesting that the pair are now together. According to The Sun, the couple are now back together and have plans to move to Dubai together. ‌ They have apparently put their £2million Epping Forest home up for sale ahead of the move. A source said: 'They have been back together for a while. The time apart gave them time to think about what they want and what is important to them — and that is being together. 'Ronnie is moving to the Middle East and Laila is going with him. They've talked about living in Dubai, which is just a two-hour flight from where Ronnie has his snooker academy in Saudi Arabia. 'He has spoken to people on his snooker circuit about the move and is excited about a clean break from the UK for him and Laila. They have had their issues in the past but Ronnie and Laila have worked through it and seem really happy again. The people who know them think they make a great couple and just want them to live a happy, quiet life.' 'They've been on and off before but Ronnie really wants to make it work with Laila," they added. "She will be joining him in the Middle East and they'll see how it goes.' The news of the couple's reunion comes after Rouass broke her silence on their original separation back in March. Taking to Instagram, she said: "Break ups can strip you down to your essence,' she wrote. 'I got through mine by using pain as fuel to take control because no matter what, we will lose parts of ourselves in relationships. It's normal, don't beat yourself up. ‌ Is Ronnie O'Sullivan the best snooker player of all time? Share your thoughts in the comments below "One thing I'm conscious of not doing is trying to get back where I was. No, I'm discovering who I've become. I've gone through various emotions... hurt, pain, anger but what I've realised about anger is that it's bottomless." O'Sullivan only reached the World Championship semi-finals in May and was eventually defeated by eventual champion Zhao Xintong at the Crucible. The cash crisis at ITV also prompted an exodus of huge cast members from the hit soap. Longtime stars such as Sue Cleaver, Colson Smith, Shelley King, and Sue Devaney have either quit or were forced to leave the cash-strapped serial drama. And now, it would appear the cast have been left 'furious' after the latest impact, which has seen them paying for their own summer party. The party is £22 per person, and they are also being asked for further contributions, especially as what they pay will only cover venue, entertainment and security so they have to pay for their own drinks. A source told The Sun: 'It's been a difficult few months and people were really looking forward to the party, but it puts a bit of a dampener on things that they have to pay. 'It might not be a lot to some of the bigger known stars but for some staff it is. The fact that drinks aren't included is a real blow too. People aren't really that surprised though considering the constant budget cuts.' The Sun has contacted ITV for comment. It comes as ITV slashed both Corrie and Emmerdale to five 30-minute episodes per week, rather than six. Coronation Street's Colson Smith reveals the moment soap boss 'binned him' from show and says 'I knew it was coming' A TV insider told The Sun in May: 'After the Daytime announcement, the big feeling within the soap departments at ITV is the cost-cutting focus will shift to them. 'There's been some seismic changes already over the past year in regards to penny pinching and many believe that's just the start. 'Given the big audience figures and institutional history within ITV, soaps used to have an untouchable feel about them. 'But that's changed significantly and they now feel more vulnerable than ever.' Coronation Street Spoilers: News & Cast Updates The beloved British soap has been captivating audiences for decades. The history of Coronation Street's iconic pub Rovers Return Inn Earlier this year, ITV announced from January 2026, both soaps will be reduced to five 30-minute episodes per week, rather than six, resulting in a one-hour reduction in soap content on the channel. Bosses attempted to spin the new streamlined output by branding the new soap schedule as ITV's new 'Power Hour', with Emmerdale airing at 8pm followed by Coronation Street at 8:30pm, Monday to Friday. However, the move is expected to cut up to 75 jobs, with many crewmembers already drafted into redundancy meetings.

"Come with me on a first date," she penned at the start of the caption. In the video, Jay could be seen getting ready as she applied her makeup and then put on her outfit. She then updated viewers from the bar before meeting her date, and then again mid-way through the date. Jay even got her date to film her for Instagram, before they sat down and clinked glasses. The former reality star then told fans that the date went "really, really well". She got candid in the caption, writing: "I've been let down a few times recently which has really knocked my confidence, but turns out there are still some good ones left and I actually had a really wonderful time…" Fans were quick to comment on the video clip, with many reacting to the news of Jay dating again. "I agree with us leaving at the time that we did because the altercation between Luke and Jordan shouldn't have happened," she explained. "At the time I would have liked to have completed the experience with Luke but on reflection I'm grateful that I didn't because it showed me that not every relationship is meant to last and that me and Luke weren't right for each other." After leaving the show Jay and Luke went on holiday but she says things between them quickly changed when they returned to their respective hometowns. Jay continued: "When we left the experiment we went on holiday, everything was good and we were really strong but then things changed when we came home. "He went back to Essex and I came back to Accrington. I felt like he changed and he couldn't be bothered to put in the effort." 8 Jay Howard and Luke met and got married on MAFS in 2023 Credit: Channel 4 8 The pair sadly didn't last Credit: Channel 4
