5 cops among 12 hurt in Bhognadih clash
Five police personnel and seven locals sustained injuries as a section of locals led by Mandal Murmu, a sixth-generation descendant of the revolutionary duo, tried to disrupt a scheduled govt programme at the village after Sahibganj district administration denied his outfit Sido-Kanhu Murmu Hul Foundation to host a parallel programme, unlike previous years.
In the 2024 assembly election, Mandal, the then a JMM worker, was a proposer for chief minister Hemant Soren, the party candidate for Barhet (SC) assembly seat.
He later flipped to BJP.
Mandal, however, installed tents and other makeshift structures at the venue. These were removed by the police on June 28, which created a public outrage.
On Sunday, a section of the locals rallied behind Mandal and locked down Sido-Kanhu Park, the venue of the event and blocked the administration from making arrangements for Monday's function. Police, attempting to break the lock, baton-charged and fired tear gas shells on the agitators who were armed with traditional weapons such as bows and arrows.

State school education minister Ramdas Soren was due to attend the function.
"Protesters attacked police personnel who were trying to break the lock at the main gate of the park. Mild baton charge was initiated to disperse the mob," Sahibganj SP Amit Kumar Singh said. A sub-divisional police officer was among the five police personnel who were injured, Singh said. "A group of miscreants tried to disrupt the function, and mild force was used by the police. The function was organised smoothly thereafter," deputy commissioner Hemant Sati said.

Vasant Vihar resident duped by fake investment scheme featuring actor
New Delhi: A Vasant Vihar resident was duped of Rs 1.86 crore by scammers who used a fake advertisement featuring an Indian actor to promote a fraudulent investment scheme. According to the complainant, he was deceived after coming across a promotional video on Instagram. The video featured an actor purportedly endorsing an investment platform that promised high returns from short-term investments. Tempted by the offer, he registered on the website and was soon contacted via a social media application by individuals posing as investment advisors. They persuaded him to transfer funds under the guise of trading, ultimately cheating him. One of the scammers began providing instructions on when to buy and sell securities for profit. They also arranged video calls to further persuade the complainant, falsely presenting inflated profit margins and offering misleading investment strategies to encourage additional investments. These actions induced the complainant to transfer funds under the pretence of legitimate trading activity. During this process, the complainant also shared personal documents and banking information, assuming the trading activity was authentic. When no returns were received and the behaviour of the advisors became increasingly suspicious, he contacted them via email, only to receive evasive and misleading responses. Despite raising concerns and requesting clarity, he was subjected to further deceit and unauthorised trades, ultimately resulting in substantial financial loss. A case was registered with the IFSO unit of the Delhi Police. "We have formed the teams to track the culprits," police added. Protests erupt in Turkey over Prophet Muhammad cartoon: Erdogan calls it 'hate crime'; magazine denies charge
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has condemned a cartoon published by the satirical magazine LeMan, calling it 'a vile provocation' and 'a hate crime,' amid widespread protests and arrests. 'Those who are insolent towards our Prophet and other prophets will be held accountable before the law,' Erdogan declared, as authorities moved swiftly to seize copies of the issue and initiate legal proceedings. The controversy began after the magazine published a cartoon that, according to government officials, depicts the Prophet Muhammad—a figure whose visual representation is forbidden in Islam. Four senior employees of LeMan, including the editor-in-chief, cartoonist, designer, and institutional director, were arrested on charges of 'publicly insulting religious values.' Turkey's interior minister Ali Yerlikaya labelled the cartoon 'shameless' and shared footage of the arrests on social media, vowing, 'These shameless people will be held accountable before the law. ' LeMan, however, has denied any wrongdoing. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the magazine said: 'The cartoonist wanted to portray the righteousness of the oppressed Muslim people by depicting a Muslim killed by Israel. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 12000W лазерен заваръчен апарат (4 в 1) – революция в заваряването! 'We would never take such a risk,' editor-in-chief Tuncay Akgun told AFP from Paris. 'This cartoon is not a caricature of Prophet Muhammad in any way.' Despite the magazine's defence, tensions flared in Istanbul. Riot police fired rubber bullets and tear gas on Monday to disperse a crowd of several hundred protesters who had gathered outside LeMan's headquarters, chanting slogans like 'revenge, revenge.' Elsewhere, demonstrators attacked a bar frequented by magazine staff. Istanbul's governor, Davut Gul, vowed that officials 'will not remain silent in the face of any vile act targeting our nation's faith. ' Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc announced an investigation, saying, 'The caricature or any form of visual representation of our Prophet not only harms our religious values but also damages societal peace.' Presidential press aide Fahrettin Altun confirmed that police had taken over LeMan's offices and that arrest warrants had been issued for additional editors believed to be abroad. Founded in 1991, LeMan is known for its political satire and had previously expressed solidarity with France's Charlie Hebdo, the target of a deadly Islamist attack in 2015 over similar content. Akgun warned of 'very worrying' parallels being drawn with Charlie Hebdo, adding, 'This is an act of annihilation… a cartoon is distorted and ministers are involved.'
