Ronny Mauricio's long homer powers Mets past Rockies 8-1
DENVER (AP) — Ronny Maurico hit his first homer of the season, a 456-foot shot into the second deck, Francisco Lindor had three hits and two stolen bases, and the New York Mets rolled past the Colorado Rockies 8-1 on Saturday night.
Jeff McNeil and Jared Young also homered and Brandon Nimmo and Luis Torrens each drove in two runs in a matchup of teams with the National League's best and worst records. New York, which is a season-high 17 games over .500 at 41-24, improved to 5-0 against Colorado this season.
Clay Holmes (7-3) gave up nine hits in six innings, but just one earned run. He had six strikeouts and no walks.
The loss dropped Colorado to 12-52, matching the 1932 Boston Red Sox for the worst 64-game start to an MLB season since 1901.
Ryan McMahon hit a solo home run in the fourth inning for Colorado's lone run. It snapped a 22-game homer drought for McMahon, who has 131 with the Rockies to pass Matt Holliday for 11th on the franchise's career list.
Germán Márquez (2-8) allowed eight hits and four earned runs in five innings for Colorado, which has scored just 10 runs in its five losses to New York this season.
Maurico gave the Mets a 1-0 lead in the third with his homer, the longest hit by New York this season.

Sovereignty and jockey Junior Alvarado traversed the field of eight on a fast Saratoga track after downpours throughout the morning and early afternoon dried up before post time. The 5-2 second favourite won in 2 minutes, 0.69 seconds, beating Preakness Stakes winner Journalism by three lengths. Journalism ended up in second again and Baeza was third — the same 1-2-3 as the Kentucky Derby. Journalism entered the gate at the Belmont as the 2-1 favourite, with Baeza the third favourite at 7-2. Sovereignty led off the first leg of the Triple Crown by winning the Derby in early May. The Bill Mott-trained colt also edged Journalism in that race. After the Derby win, the Godolphin-owned 3-year-old opted out of the Preakness to focus on the Belmont, forfeiting a shot at history to win the Triple Crown. The Triple Crown hasn't been won since 2018, when Bob Baffert's Justify won the 105th Belmont Stakes to secure the third jewel. Phillies place Bryce Harper on injured list with wrist inflammation
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The scuffling Philadelphia Phillies suffered a blow Saturday when they placed first baseman Bryce Harper on the 10-day injured list because of right wrist inflammation before their game against the Pirates. Harper sat out Friday night's 5-4 loss to the Pirates. The move is retroactive to Friday. The two-time National League MVP and eight-time All-Star is hitting .258 with nine home runs, 34 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 57 games. He missed five games from May 26 to June 2 with a bruised right elbow after being hit by a pitch from Atlanta's Spencer Strider. The Phillies are expected to play third baseman Alec Bohm at first while Harper is out, with utility player Edmundo Sosa taking over at third. The Phillies have lost seven of their last eight games, going from leading the NL East by two games to trailing the New York Mets by 2 1/2 games entering Saturday. Philadelphia had won 11 of 12 games before the skid. Infielder/outfielder Otto Kemp's contract was purchased from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 25-year-old, who has yet to play in the majors, was hitting .317 with 14 homers, 55 RBIs and 11 steals in 57 games at Triple-A. Kemp was the International Player of the Month in April.
