Oregon Ducks make contact with Monmouth sharp-shooter in transfer portal
After a second-round exit in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, Dana Altman and the Oregon Ducks are now focusing on the offseason and building out a roster for next year. On Saturday, the Ducks landed a commitment from Texas Longhorns transfer Devon Pryer. A 6-foot-7 small forward who played in just seven games as a freshman for the Longhorns, he played in 24 games as a sophomore this season, averaging just over 12 minutes per game.
Now it appears that the Ducks have a focus on acquiring some shooting out of the portal, making contact with Monmouth guard Abdi Bashir.
According to 247Sports' London, Oregon is one of many schools to reach out to Bashir, who was voted to the All-CAA First Team this past season after averaging 20.1 points per game on 37.7% FG, 38.3% 3FG, and 86.8% FT. Bashir led the country in made 3-pointers with 121, four shy of the CAA's all-time mark.
Bashir started 32 of 33 games for Monmouth this season, averaging 2.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists, taking an average of 10 3-pointers per game. This is the type of player that Oregon needs on the roster, especially with Keeshawn Barthelemy graduating. The Ducks' struggled with shooting from deep at times this past year, and could benefit greatly from a sharp-shooter who does nothing but pull up from deep at a high clip.

"Nothing has changed with Oregon, a lot of love for the Ducks, and I like where they stand." A trip to the Texas Longhorns follows this past weekend's visit on June 20. The date for the visit to the Texas A&M Aggies has not yet been finalized. Wesley will go to see the Ohio State Buckeyes on Aug. 30, the weekend they host the Longhorns for the season-opener in Columbus. Wesley is someone who the Ducks hope to get into the fold once the 2026 class signs in December, but it's not going to be easy. In the world of NIL, some of the top players in the nation require a substantial payday to secure their commitment and keep it, and the teams pursuing Wesley have large war chests to work with, as do the Ducks when it comes to paying these players. At the moment, Oregon is in a great position to land Wesley. But we've seen before, though, with Wesley in particular, how quickly things can change. According to a report from Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, the Ducks are in the final stages of pulling off a trade for New York Rangers star forward Chris Kreider. 'The New York Rangers are in advanced discussions with the Anaheim Ducks on a trade that would send career-long Blueshirt Chris Kreider to Orange County, multiple sources told Daily Faceoff,' Seravalli wrote. Mercogliano of USA Today is reporting that the framework is a prospect and a pick coming back to the Rangers with the Ducks taking Kreider's full $6.5M AAV. It was widely speculated Kreider could be traded this offseason, and now it seems like he'll be moved sooner rather than later if this deal comes to fruition. The 34-year-old forward recorded 22 goals, eight assists, and 30 points in 68 games while averaging 16:45 minutes this past season.
